Naked Ape, nice to see you around.

OMIGAWD!!

It's great to see so many old friends! Seems we all drifted somewhat, and for similar reasons. Still, I'm encouraged that you all still check in now and then, and I will continue to do so as well.

And guess what??!!

I connected with MEL!!

Remember Mel, anyone?

Mel's Web Site

She's been a little preoccupied, dealing with her father's estate in LA... and still is, but she's back on track, and has moved a bit South from Mammoth Lakes, to Bishop. Their new place overlooks the entire Owen's Valley, and she tells me she has PLENTY of room for tents (about 20), cars, rv's, and the like, so, her front yard is always open for stragglers - like me - looking for a place to pitch a tent. And I gotta tell ya, if you've never done so, it's an awesome sight, especially waking up to a rising Sun at altitude.

Mel is on track to dive deeply into her llama-guided trips this year. For those who remember, she had 3-4 llamas a couple years ago, and now, has 6 to provide transport, sherpa style, for those who hire her services for trips up and down the JMT (John Muir Trail). She knows this area like the back of her hand, and expressed the hope that some of us might want to join her for whatever hikes we might like to do this summer. I'm thinking seriously about this, having been on a "llama hike" in the past... and we had a great time those 10 days, didn't we?

Anyway... Mel asked that I pass along her new email, so...

BSAUTHORITY@HOTMAIL.COM

This is her personal email, not the one on her website (this one for business), so if you want to say hello, I know she'd welcome hearing from some old friends.

Wannabp, had no idea you were so close... we oughta meet sometime, do a hike close by...

Lizs... no Michigan trip for me this year, unless I get ambitious, and decide to take a few weeks on the harley... would love to do a cross country there, as I still have many friends there.

Big Foot!!?? How you doin', bud? Hope life has gone well for you...

Naked Ape??!! Italy?? Damn, now THAT'S a place to do some BACKPACKING!!! Taking in any guests this summer? ANd what you doin' there, anyway? Hope all is well!!

Wanderer! Yea, I remember Tahoe... hope he fares well, and that we all hear from him soon. Seeing him back on the trail would be even better!

Chili36!!

Another voice from the past! And a welcome one at that.

And everyone else, too! What a reunion... For those of us on the left coast, would be great to see what we can put together for a hike, or reunion, or something... like, maybe...

...a Bishopalooza?

Lot's of opportunity to hike in from the eastern sierra's to the JMT, or parts nearby...

Hmmm....

Good idea for a thread...

Some familiar names around here. I haven't been around for about 5+ years. Good to see a lot of the old timer's knee replacement surgeries went well and they are still on the trail! I can use that joke since I just had minor knee surgery myself but I'm near 100% now.

Hey everybody, it's been some time since either Meerkat or myself posted here so thought I'd drop a quick line.

We're still around living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, hiking whenever we can and keeping busy.

Many of us on this side of the country still try to congregate together at least once a year. You may remember some of the names like Freedom, Old Timer, Dunk, China Chas, Alpine, Strider, SARBoy, Trailartist, Lipstick Hiker, Hodgeman, Tekky and some I've probably forgotten. Hey, a middle-aged moment, what can I say?

Hey Skiracer and Naked Ape, long time no chat. I still have fond memories of the "Flat My Ass Trail" trip back in 1999 was it? Where does time go?

Hey Lizs, have you completed your "first" hike yet?? HAR! ;o)

Obi wan, I didn't know ya but thanks for restarting the thread.

Wow! Nomad! ...and Meerkat. Great to see that you posted. I can hardly believe that trip was 5 years ago. Or was it 6? I can't remember. I also have some very fond memories of that trip.

I moved to NH from NC in the summer of 2002 and I'm loving life up here.

My e-mail address is in my profile.

I'm still around and lurk every other week or so. Still hoping to find Gentle Ben posting to no avail.
Still live near Don Pedro Lake not far from Yosemite.
Mozark - My family arrives tomorrow from Ozark county MO - Hillbilly's will be envading the Yosemite backcountry - My brother wants to do half dome and I haven't been up there in a few years. There is alot of ground suck in that area if memory serves me right.
For those who know me well, I have changed jobs and work for Hetch Hetchy Water now.

Good to see some familiar names. Nomad, Meerkat, we missed you at Siskiyou last weekend. After a rainy start the weather was perfect Sat, Sun & Mon. Wrongway actually went the rightway where the trail became obscure. Unfortunately, ChinaChas returned to a flat tire that wasn't easy to fix. All in all it was an awesome trip.

Hey Sunshine, Obi & Hodge, how y'all doin?

Hodge, hope to get to see you when you pass through this summer, we'll have to discuss some possible ski plans for the winter.

Here's ChinaChas and a death defying leap!

Hey ya Skiracer! I did see in your profile that you were now living in NH. Beth lived there before relocating out here and enjoyed many trips into the White Mountains. In fact, she even earned the badge for doing all the 6000' peaks up there. Quite an accomplishment if you look at the list of them.

We head back that way every couple of years or so, including this year. Don't know how much time we'll actually have, but what town are you living in?

Hey Chief, actually Marmot and Otter were the first couple to get married after meeting on a TT hike. We came in second, so the full honors go to them. :o)

Perhaps we could win the "two hikers who met on TT who lived the furthest away from one another" award or something. LOL

Dunk, looks like it was a great trip. We'll hook up sometime in the future for another one.

We're heading out for vacation today, 3 days in Colorado and 3 in Utah, then home again. I'm also redoing our web page so hopefully will have some updated trips in a short while.

You all take care and have a great week.

And Back At Ya, everyone!

Miss Ann Thrope... If it was so sickening, why did you come in here in the first place?

Ties to the past are what bind us to the future. Clearly, you have none with the members posting here. But, I digress...

Don't answer... doesn't matter...

Enjoy the thread, or don't. And, as I suspect you DON'T, then anything further from you suggests a pretty determined malevolence. You sure you're willing to have that hung on ya?

Hello, Old Timers! I check in at TT looking for the few hiking or mountaineering threads among all the dating and political crap. I hope everyone is still getting out as much as possible. The flamers that pop up on any thread sure detract from sites like this, but I suppose you can't keep them out.

marko, buddha pissed and moaned and biotched and cried and threwh hissy fits until he finally got the new mods to ban him. Then he went to the latta sight and cried again about how he was mistreated. There is nothing funny about buddha bear. perhaps back in the day he had a humorous side, but in the last few years he has been nothing but a whiney biotch. I actually took him off ignore this past weekend to see what he was whining about. Typical crap about censorship and fascism as if this board were a government entity.

I feel the same way as you chili about what defines an oldtimer. My time in the sand seems to roughly be people who were here a bit before me are the oldtimers and everyone newer are the young pups. Funny how that works.
