So to everyone that is having a hard time, YOU CAN DO IT!! Its hard. But I was thankful for the Bubble Gum, because that helped me stop. So 1 year late i am smoke and gum free!!” 9:49:56 AM 3/01/03 congrades.... “What an accompishment!!! I am very proud of you... me myself having asthama that was worsen by my Ex husbands chain smoking I consider it wonderful news to meet another newbie to the non-smoking world. My daughter quit 3 months ago I love the fact that she now smells so much better!!! Clean and fresh like the great outdoors... :o)” 10:00:18 AM 3/01/03 “Awesome, beard. I can't wait til my 1 year anniversary gets here. This reminds me, I need to resurrect the Support Group thread so I can pat myself on the back some more. :-)” 10:06:09 AM 3/01/03 “Way to go folks, keep it up!!!” 10:17:13 AM 3/01/03 “Congrats treebeard, that kicks major a$$! You'll live longer, breath easier, hike farther, and have more money for gear as a result. Seems like the only way to go to me! :-)” 10:37:24 AM 3/01/03 “Alright Maple :)!!! Smoking sux, glad you were able to stop.” 10:54:04 AM 3/01/03 “Keep up the good work I quit 25 years ago and still have the ocassional urge after a good meal, but don't give in.” 11:18:12 AM 3/01/03 11:24:27 AM 3/01/03 “I know what you mean about the gum... I plowed through a TON of that Sugarfree stuff about 2 1/2 years ago. I should've bought stock first! (congratulations)” 11:25:46 AM 3/01/03 “I just contracted for a 20 year term life insurance policy. The difference in premiums for a non-smoker my age and a smoker my age (59) is about $3,800 dollars a year. Think about it. I'm a non-smoker, and the policy costs $1180 per year for $250,000 coverage. It costs about $5,000 per year for a smoker. Congrats to all of you who have quit. Life is so much nicer, cheaper, less smelly, and longer without the ciggies.” 11:38:11 AM 3/01/03 “Congratulations. Now if only I can stop feeding myself chips.” 1:39:30 PM 3/01/03 “thanks guys. I ate so much bazooca gum I started getting tooth aches. thats when I stoped with the gum. I watched my mother die of Emphysema and that was hard. The Asthma got worse after 9/11, but it is much better then it was a year ago. Mapleleaf (lost with out a password)” 1:47:45 PM 3/01/03 congrats on quitting smoking...... “one year ago today i set off with another tt'er on 5 night/60 mile trek south on the AT into damascus.” 1:53:24 PM 3/01/03 Congrats! “Heading for 17 years, soon! Like handlebar said, there are moments when having one sounds so-o-o good. Bit your tongue of your SO's tongue and 'this too will pass."” 2:05:41 PM 3/01/03 “Way to go maple! I'm at day forty five. I have gone through ten packs of trident and eaten a bushel of carrot sticks at least. =) I've also just bought a new down summer bag with the $ I didn't spend on cigarettes.” 2:57:11 PM 3/01/03 “with packs almost $8.00 I saved alot of cash. so I spent it all on winter gear!! maple” 3:20:23 PM 3/01/03 “Congrats everyone who has quit!” 3:34:11 PM 3/01/03 WOW, that's alot of gear.... “Holy Schiznit! $8.00 a pack?! We were at $4.25, for name brand.” 8:48:55 AM 3/02/03 “they are going up to almost $10.00 per pack maybe by the end of the year” 8:59:01 AM 3/02/03 “Wow, another great reason to stay quit.” 9:01:25 AM 3/02/03 “okay... are you the Maple Treebeard or the Treebeard Treebeard?
