Some good news for a change

Washington DC--US Senators Evan Bayh and Dick Lugar have secured $2 million in the Fiscal Year 2003 budget to expand the Hoosier National Forest. Congressional approval adds to momentum the project gathered over the past several years.
Previously Bayh and Lugar secured more than $4 million in fedral funds to buy land in the region.
"Acquiring more land for the Hoosier National Forest from willing sellers will provide Hoosier families with more opportunities to enjoy this natural treasure in our state," Bayh said. "It will also create new jobs by increasing the need for recreational managers and land management personell."
The Hoosier National Forest provides environmental and recreational benefits to Indiana residents, said Lugar. "I am pleased these funds will help continue improving our Indiana forests."
Bayh and Lugar urged Congressional budget leaders to ensure the funds would be included in the FY 2003 omnibus budget for the Hoosier National Forest to continue is successful land acquisition programs, increasing the already more than 190,000 acres of the forest.”
