bear mtn south to del, water gap “is it possible to hike on the A.T. from bear mtn ny south to del. water gap in 8 days? possible transportation back to new haven ct by bus/train? has any one done this part of the a.t. would like to hear from any one who did have the a.t. guide book and the maps also possible to do in early april to mid april thank you stinkfoot” 6:59:39 PM 3/03/03 “There's a bus depot in Delaware Water Gap, Pa.you could probably catch a bus to the Port Authority in NYC, the a train from Grand Central to New Haven. As far as hiking it in 8 days? I wouldn't do it, but that's me.” 7:30:30 PM 3/03/03 “Sirpete might know, he's done just about all this part of the AT.. Pennsy Hiker's done most of it as well.” 7:32:02 PM 3/03/03 “stinkie, April is gonna be rainy, so keep that in mind. With all the traffic that section of AT receives, you're going to be faced with lotsa possible MUD and skeeters. As far as 8 days... that is really hard to judge. How many MPD do you usually average? I would have to dig out my maps and see what kind of ups and downs you'd be facing. I'm only intimately familiar with the Water Gap and surrounding areas. I agree with J-Mack's advice on the bus/train deal.” 7:17:12 AM 3/04/03 “There will be no skeeters there in April. Mud is not a great problem because of rocks, at least in the NJ part. Figure three days at most from High Point State Park south to the gap. It might be done in just two. The rest of Jersey would be two days at most, so if you can do the NY part in three, eight days is plenty. This is assuming you can average about 15 MPD, and up to 20 for a couple of days. I don't know the mileage, though.” 11:50:28 AM 3/04/03 bear mtn to del gap “thank you to all who responded totall mi are aprox 109 mi found out about the bus 45-50 $ one way fromthe gap to meriden ct. have been laid off since the new year nice time to be off did some camping are planning on taking off the rest of the year looks like its gonna be a good year for hiking have been hiking the a.t. over the past 2 years done from hudson river to mass/vt once again thank you stinkfoot” 5:36:10 PM 3/04/03 bear mtn south to del water gap “is there still snow on the souther end after the blizzard? will check back in a couple of weeks thank you all stinkfoot or as amy calls me stinkie” 5:49:29 PM 3/04/03 “Still a lot of snow in them thar hills! I think Geo is not to far off on the figures. 3 days easy to high pt and we did High pt to the other side of Arden Valley rd by the lake in 3.5 so it is only another day to Bear. Once again like Amy said a lot of mud and where there's not mud theres going to be snow especially that section from high pt to Rt 94 that is all low lying going through Marsh and there's even a section after 517 where you are on a board walk over the marsh for a spell. Wet feet for sure this time of year, but hey it's out there to be done!” 5:52:09 PM 3/04/03
