Webshots Views explosion

“I haven't been to my Webshots page for a couple weeks. I looked today and saw an explosion of views. I missed it, I was a featured photo album I guess.

“Well I thought Webshots was dead so I don't go there often anymore especially since I couldn't load more photos. Looks like my album was picked for featured album on 02/14/07, Valentine's Day. So is that an honor or has Webshots reached the bottom of the barrel?”

She also has the #6, #7, #8, and #12 spots nailed down, for a total of 2.6 million views in those 5 albums. Other TTers are well-represented in the top whatever, too.

“More like webshots spam explosion. My webshots account is set to email me when anyone posts a comment on a photo - this has happened a couple dozen times over how ever many years I've had webshots. This morning I had 7 emails that were "comments" on some of my photos - they all said this:

“Blog spam is a form of spamdexing.

The spammer posts their ad (often more than once) in the comment section of sites that accepts comments. The spam always has a couple of links (never only one link, usually it's three or four) to their site. The links get indexed by search engines and artificially inflates their page ranking.”

Youtube (I think) has a nice "report as spam" button. I'd like to see that feature get adopted by more sites.”

“I got three "comments" on an old webshots album this week - apparently they picked one of the photos to be "featured." It was a photo of BowlderSon sliding into third base in a little league game three years ago. I didn't even take the photo! Yes, it was properly credited to the parent from the team who took it. The weekly stats I got today show that album got over 1,000 views - yikes!”

“I was getting comments on one of my photos for no apparent reason. Then I figured out that one of my albums is featured as a "members choice" album. Check it out!
