although a loop hike is preferrable, most don't like to do circuite hikes unless theres a shuttle involved

i beg to differ, with every trail there are 2 hikes as the one direction is vastly different when turning around and going the other direction. you see the surroundings from a new perspective.

what im getting at is that baCKTRACKING is not as bad and undesireable as some believe. sure you just walked that trail, but the sights are almost completley different

I concur. I enjoy seeing the views on a trail from both directions.

Mt eyes are opened!
That's a good way to look at it. Thank you for sharing that Troll.

I suppose I should check with Webster, but wouldn't a circuit be a loop?

Here in Montana we have "loops" and "out and backs."

Definition According To Webster
Circuit; A closed, usually circular line that goes around an object or area.
The region enclosed by such a line. See Synonyms at circumference.

You're right Geezr, but you get the jist still don't you?

We call 'em end to ends in MI, or loops for circuits.

Yes Sass, ;-)

Did I mention how happy I am with my nose clip? Of course it doesn't take much to impress us old farts.

Nose clip...noseclip....noseclip....
Nose clip? Like a breath rite strip? Not one of those glasses holders like on that Steve Martin movie? (Why can't I remember the title...I love that movie) You know, those aren't good for your eyes...

seems like I'm really losing it lately. I feel like I should know what you're talking about....

Troll420 is correct. I think he stole my theory. Every uphill becomes a downhill and visa versa.

Changing direction is a completely different hike.

I also find it quite enjoyable.

I totally agree. How many times did I think "gosh, I know I didn't hike this before"....

everything looks to completely different.

In my caving days it was VERY important to look backwards so you could remember the route out.

I still prefer to do end to end or loop backpacks.

karo, so what's the best route to your house, a loop? circuit? out and back? or end to end?
