Red River Gorge Summary

“The Red River trip thread is too intimidating for me to even try to parse out. Could someone please summarize the plans for the trip, e.g., how many are going, where and when are you meeting, etc. I have the weekend free, and I'm interested in possibly making the trip. Any help would be appreciated. Thx.”

“Weeding through all of that for the pertinent info is daunting. Here are some key points.

1. About 25 are planning to attend. We will probably split up for the hikes and converge to camp.

2. Individuals are meeting up with the group anytime from Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning, most during the day Friday. Friday night we will be camping at an area where trail #221 and #220 meet. On the map provided (trips page)the place is centrally located.

3. Not being sure where you are coming from, directions can probably be retrieved from Mapquest from your location to Slade, KY. There is a gas station in Slade that can provide parking permits. There is also a list posted on the trips page under a thread named permits and prices. I am picking up one other hiker around Dayton on my way down.

4. The hikes look to be about6-7 miles per day. The terrain is "gorge"ous
