Egads! Are the fates against me or what?

I was driving over to the college to give someone I know a ride home, the music on loud, the windows rolled down, the sunroof open, when bzzzzzzzzzzzz! a frigen yellow jacket comes flying in while I am making a u-turn, and the damn thing stings me! I nearly ran into a telephine pole, YIPES! Well I got there and home in one piece but now my sunroof isn't working, it won't close! :S I managed to get it mostly closed by pounding on it....I just hope it don't rain soon

Free, that happened to me driving down the interstate about 80 mph. A bee flew in and got caught in my shorts right under my leg. The little @#!$%!!&! stung me and it was all I could to steer off to the shoulder.

That's funny, Aero! That happened to me a while back, while on my scooter. Cruising down the road at about 50 mph, wearing shorts on the way to the gym, the sucker got caught up and stung me. Luckily the shorts had built in undies or things may have gotten VERY uncomfortable!

I swarm of mud daubers came after me one time when I was on a dock at the lake. I thought "ha-HA! I'll just dive into the water and escape!"

Unfortunately, one of the little bastards was already on me and stung me three times on the back of my ear. Of course by the time he stung me, I was four or five feet underwater and my immediate reaction was a rapid intake of breath...

Not good.

OY! I hate yellowjackets! I didn't think they were out this early here, though. Bad luck.

Tilt, I had the same sort of thing happen when I was whacking down a tree spaling in my old yard. I disturbed a nest of yellowjackets and they were all over me before I knew what was where.

Never knew I could move that fast in five directions at once!

I got stung by over twenty yellow jackets on the Loyalsock trail one summer {ouch... still smarts}. I had to go sit in the Loyalsock Creek upto my neck with a bottle of Tequilla {medicinal purposes} to recover. My buddy had kicked open a rotten stump where they were living. My other friend got stung only twice, but he got really dizzy and short of breath. They were tense moments until we knew everyone was OK. It makes you think about carrying a epinephrine injectable pen with you, in case of anaphylactic shock.

once, out in the woods, I had to roll a log out of the way to turn a truck around and I uncovered a hornet's nest. They immediately swarmed over me and covered my forearms. I must have gotten stung about 30-40 times. I'm not allergic to bee stings, but my forearms swelled up and I looked like Popeye!

My first response was to run for the water (did I see that in an old Grizzly Adams movie!?!), but they were everywhere in a split second. I'm glad they weren't hornets though!

My girlfriend couldn't figure out why I RAN past her straight up the hill with 50 lbs on my back, LOL

I was once driving my motorcycle down the highway when I ran into a bee. Actually it got cought between my helmet and my temple inside the helmet. That hurt. Not only the sting, but hitting it at about 70 didn't feel the best either.

One time I was at this old cabin that hadn't been used in a while. I slammed one of the exterior doors and the next thing I knew, my neck and back were burning. Wasp nest up in the door jamb and I guess they didn't like the disruption. I ended up dropping to the ground and crushing about 10 that were still clinging to my shirt, stinging away. I think I got about 30 stings.

I learned not to slam doors after that one.

Ooooooo!

Many years ago I was riding a motorcycle on a nice day, wearing a denim jacket.

The two bottom buttons were fastened and the jacket billowed open.
In flew a yellow jacket.
I quickly opened the jacket, freeing the little bugger.

A few minutes later an other one was scooped up by my open cuffs.
That one got me!
I ran off into the grass and stopped the bike safely enough.
The bastard kept on stinging until I was able to get him out of there......my hands were kinda busy.

Once again, reality intrudes on Stratdewd, LOL

To be specific, the bugs in question were Organpipe Mud Daubers. They're a type of wasp -- and wasps DO sting. I don't know whether they were the clavatum or politum variety... after all, it was 30 years ago.

I was camoflaging my position on my last field problem in the army when another guy & I kicked up a yellow jacket nest. We counted about 30 stings between us. Hurt like a mad bastard. You should have seen us run. We came out of our helmets, web gear, dropped our weapons. We blamed each other for the loud piercing girly scream heard all over Ft Campbells back 40. Embarrassing.

Canyon Carma
Good carma here yesterday, took my daughter and her roomy (home on spring break) to the canyon for a quick visit. While sitting at Trail View Overlook two condors glided over to check us out. One was # 23, I couldn't see the other's number. They hung around there for 10 minutes or so, never once flapped thier wings, just hanging in the updraft, then moved along. My first sighting, but I've heard they are there frequently.
