Did you know....
Based on last Fall's TT census and the 2000 US census and some free time last night:

Montana has the most TT'ers per capita at 4.4 per million people (4 in a state of 900,000), and we're all in the same town within a 2 mile radius of each other. We are still way behind the livestock popluation here, though.

Wyoming has 4.1 TT'ers per million with 2 in a State of 493,000.

California, with 45 TT'ers, has 1.3 per million.

Tennessee has an astounding 3.5/million; Idaho. 3.9/million; and Alabama 3.4/million.

And, Okies apparently don't backpack much with 0.2 TT'ers/million.

And, that Georgia has the most species of TT'ers.

Alabama is probably right up there too. There are 8 or 10 of us in a state with only 4.5 million people or thereabouts.

Right up there with "Hiking Rhode Island", huh, Artex!

You'd think with just over a million people, RI could scrounge up someone!
aero
11:03:58 AM
3/12/03

Also,
MT is about 140 times the size of Rhode Island, with only one-half RI's population.

NJ is the only state whose population is classified as "urban"... 100%.

Vermont is the only state with a majority (50%+) population classified as "rural".

The entire population of America could live within the city limits of Jacksonville, FL.

Custer County, ID (where my bro lives) encompasses about 7000 square miles of land area. Their Sherrif's department employs only about six cops.

The adjoining Frank Church, ID and Selway-Bitterroot, MT Wildernesses encompass, like, 10 billion square miles. The roadless areas of the Wilderni are, like, a million times larger than Yellowstone. Well... you get the picture.

Only about one-fourth of the "Church" is accessable by trail, yet the trails that do exist combine to a length greater than the AT. True.

The hottest place on Earth is Pecos, TX... IMO.

Pennsylvania has 20 listed on the TTstates list (on Phil's site) from last Fall. So, with 12.3 million pop., Penn. is 1.6/million.

Nevada TT Stats
With a total of two TT'ers in Nevada (myself and Reptiles), here are the stats:
1 per 1.05 million people.
1 per 55,270 square miles, noting this, it is doubtful that the two of us will ever actually meet.
tahoe
9:36:58 AM
3/13/03

But these ratios are "crude" not "refined" "Crude" = denominator is all people in the State. "Refined" = people who are likely to backpack (and post on TT?). Using the "refined" will increase the ratios!

(Sorry-- I'm job hunting, gotta keep these kinda things in the front of my mind!) +:-}
