TT Census OdditiesView MessagesDid you know.... “Based on last Fall's TT census and the 2000 US census and some free time last night: Montana has the most TT'ers per capita at 4.4 per million people (4 in a state of 900,000), and we're all in the same town within a 2 mile radius of each other. We are still way behind the livestock popluation here, though. Wyoming has 4.1 TT'ers per million with 2 in a State of 493,000. California, with 45 TT'ers, has 1.3 per million. Tennessee has an astounding 3.5/million; Idaho. 3.9/million; and Alabama 3.4/million. And, Okies apparently don't backpack much with 0.2 TT'ers/million. And, that Georgia has the most species of TT'ers.” 10:32:03 AM 3/12/03 “Jeez, don't stop there! Now everybody will want to know.” 10:38:51 AM 3/12/03 “Florida, 0.9:million Delaware, 0 Maine, 3.14 New York, 0.58 Texas, 0.24 Oregon, 3.21 New Jersey, 0.59, soon to get worse with Artex leaving Nebraska, 2.33 Florida, 0.9, soon to improve with Artex arriving” 10:50:39 AM 3/12/03 “NICE!” 10:51:45 AM 3/12/03 “Alabama is probably right up there too. There are 8 or 10 of us in a state with only 4.5 million people or thereabouts.” 10:54:06 AM 3/12/03 “Dang, y'all don't have much to do in Big Sky country, do ya???” 10:54:38 AM 3/12/03 “Maryland, 0.94:million (not counting monkeys)” 10:55:38 AM 3/12/03 “I hear Delaware has several secret areas that are great for backpacking. artex covers mouth with both hands while snickering” 10:59:08 AM 3/12/03 “FG- It's still winter here... Anyway, Alabama (15 TT'ers) is way up there with 3.3 per million. Indiana, 1.3 Iowa, 1.7 Kentucky, 0.7 Louisiana, 0.68 Mass., 0.3 Mich., 1.7 Minn., 0.3 Wyoming, 2 sheep per person!” 11:02:06 AM 3/12/03 “I see my close reading faculties have failed me again, lol...Alabama was in your first post and I just missed it...” 11:03:54 AM 3/12/03 “Right up there with "Hiking Rhode Island", huh, Artex! You'd think with just over a million people, RI could scrounge up someone!” 11:03:58 AM 3/12/03 “Also, MT is about 140 times the size of Rhode Island, with only one-half RI's population. NJ is the only state whose population is classified as "urban"... 100%. Vermont is the only state with a majority (50%+) population classified as "rural". The entire population of America could live within the city limits of Jacksonville, FL. Custer County, ID (where my bro lives) encompasses about 7000 square miles of land area. Their Sherrif's department employs only about six cops. The adjoining Frank Church, ID and Selway-Bitterroot, MT Wildernesses encompass, like, 10 billion square miles. The roadless areas of the Wilderni are, like, a million times larger than Yellowstone. Well... you get the picture. Only about one-fourth of the "Church" is accessable by trail, yet the trails that do exist combine to a length greater than the AT. True. The hottest place on Earth is Pecos, TX... IMO.” 12:43:11 PM 3/12/03 “i bet the largest number of bag nights still goes to Kansas. Seriously!” 12:47:09 PM 3/12/03 “yeah Dunadan is really racking 'em up out there! LOL Hey, what about PA?! Pennsylvania TTers are growing in scary proportions! What do we have now, like 12? 14? AmyG Dare The Adventurists(2) Capn Bobo Pennsy Hiker SirPete RichB jmitch msilver Buddur LyndyS (I think?) johnmck hmmm...who am I forgetting?” 3:32:54 PM 3/12/03 Damned Aero!!! “Don't you have some REAL government work to do???? Now that I know where you work, expect alot of this crap. Skiing this weekend? Supposed to be in the 50's here.” 3:44:48 PM 3/12/03 “My niece in Philadelphia isn't much of a hiker, but she does walk on occasion... like from her apartment to the car, <G>” 3:57:37 PM 3/12/03 “LyndyS is a Joiseyite. :-P” 4:03:29 PM 3/12/03 “AmyG Dare The Adventurists(2) Capn Bobo Pennsy Hiker SirPete RichB jmitch msilver Buddur LyndyS (I think?) johnmck hmmm...who am I forgetting?" Liz Oldie (not really sure) ME... that's sad..” 4:14:22 PM 3/12/03 “And thats one to grow on! 8)” 4:16:30 PM 3/12/03 “The hottest place on Earth is Pecos, TX... The Show me stat...Where are you? And the answer is......” 10:27:14 PM 3/12/03 “The "Show Me" stat for the "Show Me" state? lol” 12:33:33 AM 3/13/03 “hey Im in PA!!!!” 2:07:38 AM 3/13/03 “oh man...apologies to dirty old man, Geo and stratus! oops All the more reason for you all to get out on a TT hike, so I can put yer names to yer ugly mugs. ;D PA TTers... So, with 12.3 million pop., Penn. is 1.6/million. I agree, I'm an oddity, but you guys.....” 8:03:30 AM 3/13/03 “Wow... I thought I was one in a million, but I'm not. I'm .3 in a million!” 8:17:02 AM 3/13/03 “How can NC not be mentioned? anyone where we rank in this census?” 8:22:55 AM 3/13/03 “AmyG, you forgot Fritz.” 8:26:08 AM 3/13/03 “I didn't list all of them, but I did figure them out. NC, 13 with 8.049 million is 1.62 TT'ers/million” 8:27:49 AM 3/13/03 “hey Aero, the next time i'm in high school, you're doing my math homework, okay?” 8:30:51 AM 3/13/03 “Of course you all know that this will affect your federal funding. Montana, Idaho and Wyoming will get huge federal subsidies, while NY, CA and FL will get gouged!” 8:35:11 AM 3/13/03 “We're used to getting gouged, Aero!” 8:37:22 AM 3/13/03 “I think Michigan TTers win if per capita enthusiasm is factored in. :) Go Team Go!” 8:50:29 AM 3/13/03 “Go Team!!!! Gimme an M Gimme an I Gimme a C Gimme an H...” 8:56:14 AM 3/13/03 “Waddya got? Yoopie!” 9:02:25 AM 3/13/03 “You ain't been to Death Valley, CA...summer time temps frequently run over 120 degrees." Yeah, but there's no humidity. ;ob” 9:16:58 AM 3/13/03 Nevada TT Stats “With a total of two TT'ers in Nevada (myself and Reptiles), here are the stats: 1 per 1.05 million people. 1 per 55,270 square miles, noting this, it is doubtful that the two of us will ever actually meet.” 9:36:58 AM 3/13/03 “But these ratios are "crude" not "refined" "Crude" = denominator is all people in the State. "Refined" = people who are likely to backpack (and post on TT?). Using the "refined" will increase the ratios! (Sorry-- I'm job hunting, gotta keep these kinda things in the front of my mind!) +:-}” 11:56:31 AM 3/13/03 “I'm in maryland you SOB'S!” 11:57:42 AM 3/13/03 “You're on the list, Tarpy! Here's the TT'ers by State list I used on Phil's site TT'ers by State The State populations are on the US Census site for 2000.” 12:19:20 PM 3/13/03
