As much as I support Bush and military action against Iraq, if arctic drilling gets approved, I will NOT be voting for him in 2004. Totally unacceptable, IMO.

While the argument is made that the area of drilling is small, the Department of the Interior under the Reagan administration labeled that area as the heart of the refuge.

And as for the four remaining votes, let them cast them in peace. They were elected to make decisions to represent the people who elected them, not to be pressured and bullied by the president and his henchmen.

I'll getting real sick and tired of hearing about politicians being swayed to vote this way or that way. It sucks with a capital S, and if they fall pray to this pressure, Well that sucks even bigger dicks!

Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

This is the true nature of this regime.

They have no intent to do "the will of the people".

Its about grabbing all you can before the next hog gets it.

Back to the future.....to the days of the Robber Barons.

I just called my two Senators (both Republicans and one is Frist) to tell them to vote against it...wasted phone calls I know but at least it lets them know how I feel, like they care

The vast majority of Alaskans support drilling.

well it's not really in their backyard though is it? Most Alaskans don't live that far north. If I were told I'd be getting thousands of dollars in tax rebates for the next few years for letting them drill for oil hundreds of miles to the north of me then it would be tough to stick to my principles too. There is also the fact that's it will create jobs and benefit the local economy for a few years, but will decimate the area for many more years.

Though the ANWR is in Alaska, all U.S. citizens are responsible for its disposition, not just those living in Alaska.

Stop selling the oil and gas from the Alaskan pileline to other countries and upcap the 1000's of oilwells sitting idle in this country first. This needs to be done before we even consider drilling in the Artic.

Stop the Sneak Attack on the Arctic Refuge!
(cut & pasted from www.wilderness.org)

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is under a sneak attack from the oil industry and their allies in Congress and the Administration. In the next two weeks, oil industry allies in the House and Senate will try to use a sneaky backdoor maneuver to open the Arctic Refuge to oil drilling.

We need your help to keep drilling in the Arctic Refuge OUT of the federal budget before it’s too late!

Click here to take action now: http://www.wilderness.org/Arctic

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of our last remaining wild places. We can’t lose the critical battle to preserve this precious, threatened landscape which is inhabited by wolves, grizzlies, caribou, and millions of migrating birds.

This threat is more serious, and more dangerous, than ever before. Anti-wilderness forces in Congress are plotting to use a backdoor budget maneuver to sneak this oil industry giveaway into the same federal budget the government needs to function.

In the past, proponents of Arctic oil drilling have fallen far short of the 60 votes necessary to pass such a highly controversial proposal in the U.S. Senate. Yet rumors about the upcoming stealth budget maneuver make it increasingly clear that the oil industry and its allies will stop at nothing to get their way.

Click here to urge your Senators and Representatives to oppose inserting Arctic drilling into the federal budget: http://www.wilderness.org/Arctic

Poll after poll has shown that the American people believe some places are so wild, so special, and so important that they should be off limits to oil drilling. Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would ruin one of America’s last unspoiled and irreplaceable wild places for just a few months worth of oil that won’t be available to consumers for ten years! There are safer and smarter ways to address America's energy needs, starting with making our vehicles more efficient and investing in renewable sources like wind and solar power.

Please take a moment to remind your Senators and Representatives that drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has no place in the federal budget!

Click here to take action now: http://www.wilderness.org/Arctic

With your help, we will protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as an unspoiled legacy for future generations.

hey Bison, instead of drilling there why doesn't the oil companies uncap the many oil wells in this country. That would be a lot cheaper

Can't wait till they start drilling! Gas prices already high enough. Think if they strike a huge deposit, gas prices will go down at least $.05?

I hope so. It is killing me to fill up my SUV's!

3rd world nations, middle east, ANWAR, CONUS, i say we drill for it all asap. lets face it, we need more oil!

last i looked there's still plenty of places w/out any smog and there's still a few pesky penguins left to be killed off by oil spills.

You seem to have drawn responses from the righties here Le S.
Basically, for Bush and energy lobbyists, no ground is too sacred for oil. Hopefuilly they'll discover it on several of the Bush family estates.
