Poppinfresh has a stupid questionView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 40 of 40 messages posted.
Ok I have several. “1.) I own a Primus Yellowstone Lite trail stove, I have never used it while backpacking (heck I've never used it}. My question is " Has any one ever used one? will its "heat screen work effectivly in the wind? or will I just have to cook in my vestible? 2) I am planning a trip to on the Lillian lakes loop, Are there any special regs for this area that are not in the guidebook? I know that a wilderness permit is requered( missspelled i think?) but it dosent state any others. thats about it.” 3:32:49 PM 3/12/03 “#1 - I have the same stove and it works great in positive temperatures (ahem, not subzero). As far as wind...if you can light it, it will burn. If it's too windy to light...well, then it won't be lit. ;p #2 - I have no idea where you are talking about. Have fun!” 3:37:38 PM 3/12/03 “Get a Whisperlight and listen to the roar...” 3:38:56 PM 3/12/03 “Oh yea forgot to tell where lillian lakes are there in california” 3:51:47 PM 3/12/03 “Get a Spyder and listen to it take off” 3:52:49 PM 3/12/03 “i've tested it in my backyard to see if the stove lit havent tested boiling water yet its a real quiet stove” 3:57:01 PM 3/12/03 “Poppn you are such a gear pimp! :P” 4:21:09 PM 3/12/03 “poppin..with your track record..don't cook in your vestibule unless it's a blizzard” 4:22:36 PM 3/12/03 “LMFAO good one Opie! 8)” 4:23:48 PM 3/12/03 “LMFAO poppin, maybe you sholdn't be lighting anything on fire-” 4:25:13 PM 3/12/03 “welcome back tarpy... Poopisfresh: Amy is wrong, you must cook in your tent, or some other small, enclosed area, with little to no ventilation. See if you cook in a small tent like my 1 man the air is recycled. The air that is used in burning the fuel will recerculate back near the stove. Then the already used air will be used again to burn more fuel, but this time the air has fuel already in it. Basicaly think of your tent like a supercharger on a car.” 4:41:35 PM 3/12/03 “I have the same stove, it performs great. I've never had a problem with wind (well, you know what I mean).” 5:51:07 PM 3/12/03 “yea..and use your down sleeping bag as a stove pad/windstopper when cooking inside your tent.... no i'm not gonna even joke and tell him to do this..he's just smart enough to actually try it DON'T LIGHT FIRES IN YOUR TENT!..my candle lantern still freaks me out everytime i light it” 5:51:56 PM 3/12/03 “Opie, if he is that dumb then one less dumb ass to bring down the nation. But I don't think he is dumb.” 5:53:06 PM 3/12/03 “Nope Tea, he's just like you!” 6:26:18 PM 3/12/03 “is this the poppinfresh from before, or a troll? PF, we made that pioneer bread awhile back. It was great. well posted....” 6:46:47 PM 3/12/03 “LMFAO at Treebait!!!!! 8)” 6:47:39 PM 3/12/03 “1) i am the same poppinfresh as the pioneer bread 2) i'm not stupid enough to cook inside my tent i was just asking because in backpacker mag. it said that in in inclement weather you have to sometimes cook in a vesteble” 6:52:07 PM 3/12/03 “Prowler thanks I didnt think anyone tried my recipe” 6:55:32 PM 3/12/03 “pf did you end up goingg to the Coast Gard??” 6:56:43 PM 3/12/03 “i enlisted yes but didnt make it thru basic long story dont wanna talk about it” 6:59:48 PM 3/12/03 ok “hehe, dammit boyyyy! ggrrr!” 7:02:17 PM 3/12/03 “What are everyones favorite brand of Freeze dried dinners?” 7:02:45 PM 3/12/03 “Mountain House. Can't stand Backpackers Pantry. Mostly I dehydrate stuff anymore.” 7:11:39 PM 3/12/03 “i tried dehydrating but found it to be really heavy” 7:14:16 PM 3/12/03 “Dehydrating what, rocks? My experience has been the opposite.” 7:15:55 PM 3/12/03 “well of course when i last backpacked it ended in desaster, maybe i'll try it again” 7:19:20 PM 3/12/03 “but i am working on a vegi soup recipe thats dehydrated , well of course that would be lighter than my chilli” 7:22:15 PM 3/12/03 “brings me to another question any one have a good dehydrated soup recipe?” 9:08:00 PM 3/12/03 “what happened on the last BPing trip?” 9:10:21 PM 3/12/03 “you know i told all about it well here is a recape i was to fat and outashape to be carying a 50 lbs on a six day trip with almost no physical prep. Got bad elevation sickness, went to doc (a short scinny asian dude) poked me and in a very asian accent and said " Ah i see your getting chubby" so i was ordered to lose 20 lbs and traine for the next time i plan a backpacking trip and gave me a few bottles of diomox. i did as he said and i'm ready for the trail” 9:19:18 PM 3/12/03 “no shoot! hehe i never knew about that??” 9:22:05 PM 3/12/03 “lol pretty funny i didint even make it halfway up to the first 8000 ft saddle to aloha lake” 9:24:37 PM 3/12/03 “damn you must have been way out of shape. didnt you charge a bunch of $ to others to go or something like that? if not the where rumers when you dissapeard.” 9:26:53 PM 3/12/03 “PF and think, you cant go where many have been before.........uranus!” 9:28:52 PM 3/12/03 “hey i took enough ribbing for the failer on my part. i took it as a lesson and got into shape, still working on it doing progresivly harder day hikes then easy overnighters then maybe try a 3 dayer so far i'm just about ready to start the overnighters” 9:33:37 PM 3/12/03 “brings me back to my question any one have a good dehydrated soup recipe?"” 9:49:36 PM 3/12/03 “hey poppin' - I must have missed that story. That is a bummer that your trip went so awry. Good for you that you took the lesson though and very brave to share. Aside: I didn't think you could get altitude sickness below 10k??” 6:37:10 AM 3/13/03 “Poppinfresh is certianly NOT STUPID. I have had good times hiking with him and he knows a lot about geology. He gets very enthusiastic about what he studies. You would find him a cool guy (but shy) if you were to ever bump into him on the trail :)” 8:21:06 AM 3/13/03 “Mountain House is good food, but stay away from the Turkey Tetrazzini, the asparagus does not rehydrate for anything, and ends up tasting like poo. I am trying out the Enertia food sampler box right now. So far so good, but some of the food needs to be prepared in the pot, something I am not into (I hate cleaning any dishes in the woods).” 9:10:21 AM 3/13/03
