21,000 lbs. of TNT
The test detonated one of these at Eglin AFB two days ago and I still haven't seen a picture of it. The largest ones they used in Afghanistan were "only" 14,000 lbs. of TNT. Of course, a picture of it wouldn't be much good if it was in a featureless desert. Need some trees or buildings in the pic to get the scale of the big bang.

Anyone know where there is a link orpic to this big kablooey?

yahoo has a few pics of it..i'm down here near the panhandle, about 30 mins from eglin...we all felt the temors and a low rolling thunder type sound when it went off. But it didn't feel as big as some of the others they have tested down here. They said they set it off in conditions where it would not create a large plume as not to disturb local residents.

I think it is interesting that the military hyped the heck out of this "test". I imagine they wanted to make sure tyhat everyone in Iraq with a TV and access to CNN got to see it. I wonder if used civilian clothing sales skyrocketed in the villages around Iraqi troop placements after the test?

I think that alot of the "news" recently has been aimed at scaring them.

My favorite "news" is when the ex-generals, colonels, etc, come on and talk about how this is going to be the most concentrated, most numerous and most continuous bombing campaign in history. The terminology they use and the gleam in their eyes when they use them has to be terrifying for anyone in the dropzone.

I thought it was frightening that they dropped it all. Musta been really scary for folks who lived nearby. I know it was a psychological device, but I wonder what the fall-out will be for those folks near the "mushroom clouds" that rose from the site.

I think having 300,000 troops massed on his border and video of the bomb all are directed at sending a message to Sad Sack Insane. I noticed that he allowed U2 overflights at one point but withdrew permission when the UN started putzing around with the deadline. Sad Sack is good at brinksmanship, if nothing else.

He never will agree to anything unless the threat is real and credible. He never has, and he never will. It has to be real, unmistakable, and forceful and then he MAY back down. But when the UN waffles, he becomes intransigent.

If there is any hope of resolving this thing peacefully, it is sending the message that there is no longer room to wiggle, it's time to put up or shut up. The more wiggle room left to him, the closer we come to war. He perceives weakness on the part of the UN, and that does not take a whole lot of perceptive power.

the MOAB produced a small funnel shaped cloud due to favorable winds in the area. People in the area were quoted as saying "that's it?"..Alot of pple were expecting a bigger boom, and bigger plume

YeeeHaaaa!
We need to show continuous re-runs of "Dr. Strangelove" on Iraqi TV. That would really scare the pants off them!

Was anyone sitting on the bomb while it dropped from the plane? Waving a cowboy hat, no less.
