I wonder how hard that is while riding though?” 9:22:46 AM 6/09/05 2:33:41 PM 6/09/05 “to funny, bet he never does that again” 2:37:09 PM 6/09/05 “dang blocked again!” 4:48:35 PM 6/09/05 “Damn... I came on the thread to post that video and Snowy beat me to it! Must be the fingernail polish allows for quicker posting.” 8:35:24 PM 6/09/05 “that video is so sad - but very funny too. I only rode my bike once this week - my hiking is getting in the way of my biking, but I have some big hikes coming up and I need to be able to do them.” 1:34:34 AM 6/10/05 “I gave up on the sandals for now. I like the "naked feet" thing while biking, but the sole of the sandal has a raised bike design. I also noticed when clipping in that the cleat seems to be situated just a tad off - I have to make sure my feet are well back in the sandal. I guess the combination of the two - the raised design and cleat placement - is what's causing my feet to go numb. I have to wiggle my toes to wake them up, and that's uncomfortable for the toes on my left foot right now. I'm gonna let a friend of mine try the sandals this weekend, see what his verdict is. Last night I rode with my regular cleats and my feet were fine.” 8:07:42 AM 6/10/05 “Can anyone tell me what decent times are for trailriding. I've got the ten mile ride down, no problem, but being my first race, I don't know what kind of times to work toward?” 9:07:19 AM 6/15/05 “What race are you doing? I have no clue what may be a good time.” 9:13:03 AM 6/15/05 “I think my 4.5 year is an official TT biking club member now. We went out for a ride tonite and 45 min/2.4 miles later we were home, She had a hoot and is way sleepy. We got to chat the whole time, gonna have to do this more.” 7:03:03 PM 6/15/05 “I entered some mountain bike races years ago and I think it's kind of hard to speculate what a good average speed would be would be to finish well. There are too many variables like technical terrain, hillclimbs, hike-a-bike sections, mud, etc. Since it's your first race just try to get a feel for racing in a group and moving through the pack as best you can without crashing and getting hurt. Try to get a good start since it will be easier when you hit the first singletrack section if you are toward the front and not have to pick your way through too many riders. That can be easier said than done, but just focus on having a good time, doing the best you can and enjoying yourself for your first time out racing.” 8:08:41 PM 6/15/05 “good points rich” 8:37:58 AM 6/16/05 “I haven't gone bike riding in a week and it doesn't look like I'll get out again until Sunday morning.” 10:05:34 PM 6/16/05 “A week isn't too bad. I haven't been bike riding in about 2 months because of an injury. I'm hoping it gets better so I can start riding again within a few weeks. Not riding when the weather is so nice out stinks.” 10:20:00 PM 6/16/05 “I am starting to train for a sprint triathlon next summer. I am 44 and am working on two artifical knees. Last Saturday I did a 14.5 ride in 1 hour. Of course that all depends on the terrain. I am trying to get to the point of doing that loop 3 times a week.” 7:42:11 AM 6/17/05 “I just got back from my first metric ride. I did 63 miles, 3800 ft in 3:49. I had two goals, to beat 4 hours and to also not stop at the rest stop. Both accomplished. Whenever I do another ride, I will definately stop. I guess that goal was to just prove to myself that I could do it. Big the biggest plus of the ride was it was my first group ride ever. No better way to join a group ride than with 1,000 of your friends. I was a little nervous at first about being so close to other riders. But it was all good. And I even joined in at the tail of some pacelines (but not many). Part of the route is in my normal riding area, so I knew all about the "big" hill at mile 17. When we reached the hill people were still clumped together, but some how I managed to pass a ton of people going up the hill. While I felt really proud of that, I may have pushed to hard early on. Between miles 40 -57 I had to really concentrate because my legs were starting to complain. It was a good ride, but I will definately have to put in a lot more miles before I can do a full century.” 2:59:53 PM 6/18/05 “Good deal Matt!” 5:14:58 PM 6/18/05 Rock on Matt! “I think we were at the same ride yesterday. I did not do the metric, however I did much better overall on both time and hill climbs. They had an awesome setup for chillin' at the end too. Free Mexican Food and Pizza and Ice Cream?! Plus a t-shirt and pair of socks for the registration fee. You did awesome time and I bet you chowed down later!” 7:06:38 AM 6/19/05 “I actually didn't eat anything there. When I finish a long ride, my stomach is not in the mood for food at all. I live just about 10 minutes away from the ride, so I just went home and crashed.” 7:17:04 AM 6/19/05 so we'll have to meet up for the next one! “I am just the opposite- I will eat a light b'fast, mostly carbs, hydrate along the way, then I am ready to do some serious chow-down. Hope you had a nice nap afterwards- I hung out there till the LD riders came in, heard the CW band play , then went home had a beer, took a swim (or "wallow") in the pool, then a sauna before calling for more food, then crashed. Feel great today for the most part- just a little tight in the traps from being tucked and holding my head up (may check into lighter helmets). If you ever want to climb hills at Percy Warner Park, let me know! The hiking is good there too, but to cycle the roads can really kick your booty!” 6:40:51 PM 6/19/05 “Matt, were the rides connected to the Harpeth Bike Club? I knew they were having a some sort of a cycling event this past Sat.” 10:37:15 PM 6/19/05 Good ridin' Matt... “It's always a good idea to get some protein in your system after a hard ride to help with recovery. It'll keep your legs from getting as sore the next day, too. If you can ride 63 miles, you can do a century. I did my first one with my longest ride being only 50 miles. Saturday I did an awesome 81 mile ride from Camp Pendleton (north San Diego) to Huntington Beach (L.A.) and back. Along the way I rode through San Onofre, Trestles, San Clemente, Doheney Beach, Dana Point, Laguna Beach, and Newport Beach. Absolutely gorgeous day and scenery. Girls in bikini's in every direction, and every expensive car you can imagine. The ocean water was a vivid dark blue color and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The traffic was a little dicey in some spots, but most of the time it was moving slow enough that I could just jump out in the lane and keep up with the flow. Then Sunday I drove out east of San Diego to watch the first day of the Race Across America. I couldn't imagine riding a bicycle across the country some 3,052 miles. Those people deserve major props! http://raceacrossamerica.org/” 1:48:20 AM 6/20/05 “Ewker, The ride was run by the Harpeth Bike Club. They did a great job. It was very organized and run well.” 6:57:33 AM 6/20/05 “Sound like a great ride Matt! The Trek Across Maine was this past weekend. Not sure what the weather was for your rides, but Friday was in the 50s and rainy, Saturday was in the 40s and rainy, and Sunday was blue skies and 60s - wahoo! For the first time I am sore the day after the Trek. I blame it on my shortage of training miles - yesterday was the hardest on my legs and butt.” 8:25:25 AM 6/20/05 “great job Matt!” 8:31:07 AM 6/20/05 “Cool matt!!! And tiwg!!!!!” 8:54:30 AM 6/21/05 “I rode 40 on Saturday morning.” 10:25:41 AM 6/21/05 “100F going home last night. ugh!” 10:39:35 AM 6/21/05 “Rode the bike in to work today. Hadn't ridden in since last fall. I need to do some riding if I want to try a tri this summer, so I'll probably take a lap or two around the lake before heading back home today. I probably oughtta get some longer rides in on the weekends, too....” 10:54:01 AM 6/22/05 “been hitten the trails for about 10 miles after work. Man that is diff. than road riding. I forgot what a 2-mile downhill will do to your ribs. Then back up the other side...ugh! The other day I was in my hardest gear cruisin down a gravel road and looked back to see a swarm of deer flies hot on my trail. Those bastards must have had afterburners. Took a couple hits too, even with deet on.” 1:36:24 PM 6/22/05 “I prefer road biking to mtn biking. I still haven't gotten use to clipless pedals while mtn biking. last weekend in the Smokies I saw quite a few people riding their road bikes very slowly up those mountain roads.” 2:38:19 PM 6/22/05 “rode 24 this morning before work” 2:44:09 PM 6/22/05 “This morning I pumped up the tires and took her on the road. It has been a while! It seemed as though I was dragging and I seemed to have to pump hard, even though I downshifted a couple of gears. Rode to the pool hall, played a few games and rode back home, about 3-miles total. It should not take too long to shape up the legs, if I hide the car keys.” 2:55:31 PM 6/22/05 Check it out. “21 week training plan by Chris Carmicheal/CTS http://www.livestrong.org/site/c.jvKZLbMRIsG/b.788287/k.AC32/How_To_Train.htm” 10:58:02 PM 6/22/05 “Anyone know what group is biking across the midwest? Hundreds of bikers on my route to work this week. They've been pouring through for three or four days now. (southern, IN)” 10:20:33 AM 6/23/05 “30 miles with +/- 2200 ft vertical. Legs felt good on climbs of 1000ft, 600ft and 600ft. 95F to start on my cyclometer, thunderstorm crossed over and dropped it to a pleasant 75 for a while then the sun returned popping it back to 95. I am at least 4-6 weeks ahead of last year in my fitness. :D” 10:10:57 PM 6/26/05 “We finally got Sass' bike back from my buddy who was tuning it up and getting it working right after years of negelect (the prior owner never cleaned it). We headed out to a park that follows a river bottom in our area. The great thing is that on Saturdays from 8-3pm they shut down a 7.2 mile section ro cars so cyclists and runners etc can have the whole place. We did a challenging 14.4 miler (with my daughter in tow) and had a blast. I will get my new frame next week and the send it to the paint shop for some color then rebuild the whole deal. I will lose about 3 lbs in bike weight for dirt cheap. Hopefully we'll get out againt today.” 9:49:40 AM 7/03/05 “I used the clipless pedals for the first time. First started out with a set that looks like regular pedals so you can switch back and forth, but they were really difficult to clip into. Changed over yesterday (rode up to the rec center to swim and then to the dairy barn for ice cream =), 7.5 miles) to the regular clipless and they were so easy. I was really expecting to be falling over etc. I'm sure my time will come on the trails.” 8:26:44 AM 7/04/05 “Sounds like you guys had a great ride :) Aren't clipless pedal cool Sass?” 6:55:29 PM 7/04/05 “4 days without a ride, too much food at the wedding and surrounding events. Rode today, felt good! Broke a spoke though when I got near work. Luckily I can ride a campus shuttle bus to get into easy walking distance to the bike shop. My Lance Armstrong Foundation Peloton Project Page ”1:00:02 PM 7/06/05 “Hey all. Watching le Tour de France is both motivating me to get out and taking up some of my prime riding time. :-/ Had a good ride by the Rio Grande yesterday. Thursday I was supposed to ride, couldn't make myself get off the couch in the cool house in front of the TDF to go out into the 90+ heat. I've also been walking/riding to the bike shop getting a wheel worked on. Need new bearing cartridges on the back. I wonder if I can convince a bike shop to donate a wheelset. =-D Did the workout yesterday instead. Not quite as hot as it has been, upper 80's, but blustery winds gusting to 30mph. Rode 25 miles in 1:30:00 with two 30min Tempo intervals. Riding solo, that is the pace I need to keep or beat to make my goal of Ride for the Roses Century in 6 hours or less. I may have a team forming up for the ride, so we could do even better riding together. PELOTON PROJECT,$7 MILLION FOR CANCER SURVIVORS ”10:14:56 AM 7/09/05 “Path -- Definetly pursue the idea of putting a group together. The efficiency of riding in a pack can't be overestimated!” 9:08:13 AM 7/11/05 “Yep, I had that experience in the Ride for the Roses last year. Having a group that has ridden together prior to the big ride would be sweet.” 12:55:08 PM 7/11/05 “I did a ride from Kiawah Island, SC to Savannah, GA last week. It went well. Did it with my bro'-in-law. The roads weren't the best for biking, but it was nice overall. Flat land was kind to us and the winds were only bad crossing some of the bigger salt marshes around Beaufort. We did the 118 miles in 5:45. Happy to nail the century sub-5 at 4:51. So, what's next?” 4:35:49 PM 7/11/05 “I have signed up to do another Multiple Sclerosis Society Bike Tour. It will be the Jack Daniels Bike to Jack and Back Oct 1 & 2, 2005. I haven't decided whether I will do 55 or 75 miles each day. This is a fun trip and the money goes to a good cause. Time to step it up again. If you can get a chance to do one of these rides in your area I would highly recommend it.” 7:07:34 PM 7/11/05 “MM, very impressive ride and time. A century is one of my goals someday...Good for you and your brother in law. Ewker, I know how much you looked forward to that ride last year, I hope this year is better yet!” 7:49:47 PM 7/11/05 “oh yeah, my new frame is in the shop being painted, should have it wed I think. I hope to rebuild it ASAP.” 7:50:32 PM 7/11/05 Jump to Page << prev
