Looks like I might not be doing the Trek Across Maine again this year...
:(

Time just flies with kids and I don't feel like I can justify the training time...there is too much I'd rather be doing with them.

second ride of the year.

36 miles. 36 degrees. 36 mph wind.

There's only one of those 36's I could deal with right now, the temp. I could drive 36 miles in the jeep, but a 36 mph headwind on my bike would have me going backwards. Baby steps:)

well
I may have exagerated a bit onthe wind . .. .it was a bit gusty, but nothing that severe.

I was in pain enough as it was.

Riding into a strong wind can be like pedaling uphill. Tailwinds are nice though.

Check out my new warm-weather-months storage area:

That's cool. My bikes are just scattered around the basement.

Love that rack...
I feel like we're over run with bikes right now (7 bikes) as the kids just got new bikes and we haven't decided what to do with the old ones yet.

Likely we'll make covers for them out of old tarps so we can keep them outside, and hang on to them for company...

When I first started riding I tried to muscle through the headwinds. Eventually I learned to just gear down and plod along. I found I actually went farther during the day with that technique than trying to bust my kneecaps in too high a gear.

I remember going for long runs at the Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City about 30 years ago. Running into a head wind was pretty much like treading water, no discernable forward progress. When I eventually reached the turn around point, the wind was to my back and literally blew me down the road. Then and only then did I feel a little bit like a runner:)

I've been wanting to say this my whole life, but not particularly to BowlderMan. Nice Rack!

four bikes in the space of two is great.

A new era in my bike riding will start in 3 weeks, when my Catrike arrives. I got a Speed model in orange. Its a recumbent trike, built somewhat for performance. I live on a hill with about a 300 foot drop in four city blocks, so my morning commute could start with a fun little zoom down the hill. I hit 35 on my 2 wheeler, so we'll have to see how the 'bent does. I'll be going a lot slower than that until I feel I can handle it.

I did my first ride of the season outside last evening. I've been riding on an indoor trainer all winter and even though it can't really duplicate every motion of riding outside, it did help. I'm not sore this morning and I was able to do a hard ride with lots of climbing and finish feeling pretty good.

I rode a mountain bike with slicks on the roads, but Thursday evening I'll take my other bike out for a woods ride.
