The bride and I are planning a trip to Moab sometime in April to do some hiking in Canyonlands and Arches.

Does anyone have any good hints about the area? We plane to do day hikes and hang out in a cheap motel.

You Won't Want To Leave
Yes, lots of hints...EVERYTHING!!!

Here's a link regarding hiking in the Canyonlands NP.
And a link to hiking in Arches NP.

I was there on a 1.5-week long drinking and geology binge and believe me, there's lots facinating sights and lots of hiking to get to these places.

Maybe check out $$$ at "World-Wide River Expeditions" for a WW rafting trip down the CO river, they're one of the oldest and most respected on the river. I was fortunate to float the river 4 days with the owner and daughter, some great people, so I can't help to plug them.

And don't forget to hit the Golins.

There's not much hiking trails in the island in the sky district of canyonlands but thats cuz yer at the top and the views are all around you.It is AWESOME.It blows the Grand canyon away.Dont miss mesa arch.It is easy to hit all the main killer view points in a short time.
I havent been to the needles district but the confluence overlook looks killer in pictures and is an 11 mile rt hike.
I have been to the maze-briefly.
Yer car can make the 45 mile dirt rd trip to the ranger station and then its gnarly 4wd.There are killer petroglyph walls there. It is very remote/primitive and like island not crowded.
In april the road to the maze will turn into a mud swamp if it rains. Not a great place to get stuck.

Head west out of Moab....
On Kane Springs Canyon rd. Go south through town and turm right at the McDonalds. Kane Springs canyon is very cool. Lots of 'glyphs and pictographs, ton's of trailheads, great mountain biking too. You can rent bikes at Poision Spider. If you do want to Mountain Bike do the Gemini Bridges trail, excellent.

If you really want to go cheap, but nice enough, drop in the Slickrock Campground and see if they have any cabins available. Very basic but about $20.00 a night if I recall.

Take the drive east of toun up the Colorado River past Fishjer Towers to Dewey Bridge too. Negro Bill Canyon is a great day hike, cool arches and stream crossings.

Have Fun!

Great tips, folks, thanks, but the GOBLINS??? Is that a waterin' hole or a scenic vista?

A Scenic Maze Of...Well...Goblins
In layman's terms, The Valley Of Goblins is a maze of mushroom-shaped rock formations.
