As a Purchasing Agent I recv. Price Increase letters all the time. But the one that I got today blew me away. Talk about taking advantage.

"Dear Valued Customer,

Due to markets uncertainties by threat of war and political unrest, along with the potential of feedstock disruptions, the cost of all major resin feedstock have increased dramatically. As a result all plastic resin suppliers have announced price increases on the following resins;.....

it goes on from there to break down what items have benn increased.

We've actually dealt with this increase in resin costs here. According to testimony at a recent hearing (given under oath) resin prices are increasing quite dramatically. Apparently resins are made with petroleum somehow or other. So I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that you're seeing profiteering or that companies are trying to take unfair advantage.

Of course, now that Venezuela is producing as much oil as they were before they had that bit of unrest, one might expect the supply of oil to be such that increases in resin (and fuel) costs would at least level off a bit.

We (our company) were just told there would be an increase in the price of the plastic parts that we have made too.

This is going to be a trend I think in all Co's.

This is what kills me. As of today there has been no decrease in petroleum production... Only the threat of it. So why is the price going up? Speculation that the supply will eventually decrease. Sounds like price gouging to me.
