I've searched the past threads and noticed that only golite's packs were talked about. Has anyone ever had experiences with their tents?

I just purchased the Golite Hex2 teepee shelter (less than 2lbs without pole).

Any feedback from other tenters?

It looks like a cool shelter, Buddha. The weight is definitely right. I was just wondering what to do about bugs...

if you're a sewer (seamster?), it would be pretty simple to tack on doors & a skirt of mosquito netting. i'm going to do that to my Megamid someday...

BB, did you get it with or without the floor. I know Northern Mountain Supply has the one with a floor on sale. Based on some reviews I found most everyone said it was a good shelter.

yeah, I bought it from NMS, with floor.

Other drawback -- no coupling up the sleeping bags with your honey :(

rosey, would the pole get in the way?

Just ask him to sleep outside!
(couldn't resist)

You can suspend it from a branch and leave out the pole.

What about condensation?

The condensation rolls off like a retreating french battalion, you'll never know it was there.

I read a review where the guy said he couldn't substitute a hiking pole for the one that comes with the HEX2. ?
wolfmans brother

No, you can't use a hiking pole in the Hex2, but you can tie it to a tree.
Buddha Bear

you can use 2 hiking poles, though.

how does that work?
wolfmans brother

the ad says: It works well on paddling trips utilizing the paddle instead of center pole"

if you can use a paddle why can't you use a hiking pole?
Ewker

In this case lenght does matter.

Althought if I remember right I saw that they were going to make a hiking pole connector so that you could use two hiking poles.

couldn't you just use the hiking pole and have a lower ceiling?

super cheapo hiking pole connector
take 2 hiking poles. see how the poles have 3 sections each? if they don't have 3 sections then you're SOL, sorry.

lay your poles on the ground, parallel to each other but running in opposite directions (handle of one alongside tip of the other). scoot 'em so the top sections are lined up alongside each other, like so:

====0====0====000
000====0====0====

with the triple 0 representing the handles. using cord, webbing, whatever, strap those top sections together TIGHT. TIGHT, i say! the handle of each pole should rest on the plastic section-dividing ring of the other pole. if the poles are strapped together tightly enough, there should be no wiggle room.

stake out your tent, unzip the door, and insert your pole(s). adjust the pole heights until the tent is nice & taut. if you're worried about your pole tip damaging the pole cup in the tent, carry a rubber hiking pole tip protector.

sleep nervously until you feel confident in your new pole.

curses! my diagram was altered! here it is again, ignore the x's, they are only meant to let the diagram line up appropriately.

Got mine w/floor at NMS also. Would really rather have the Hex 3... same weight but 75 sq feet.
I'll be taking mine to A16 to have a mesh screen sewn to the perimeter.
I'm still tryin' to figure out a solid hikin pole connector.

not quite so cheap connector
get some Cordura (pack cloth). sew two "cups" big enough to fit over the handles on your poles. take a piece of 1" webbing and sew it onto the cups like so, with about 20 inches of webbing between the 2 cups:

(______
.......)

the parentheses represent the cups, solid line is the webbing. ignore the dots, they're for correct spacing. make sure the webbing is also sewn around the top of each cup and over to the other side. sorry i can't be much clearer.

put one pole handle in each cup. then use cord or webbing to once again strap the poles together TIGHTLY. should look like this:

+=====0=====0=====000)
...........(000=====0=====0=====+

sorry i couldn't figure out how to represent the webbing, but hopefully you understand. this is basically what Black Diamond has come out with for use as a pole connector.

ok, the dots don't work so well for spacing - i swear, everything lined up right while i was typing it! let me know if i need to clarify anything.

If you accidentally whack the inside of the tent does it blast you with accumulated drops condensation like the proverbial ohio national guard?

Does a large dude like B Bear fit in a tent like that?

I'm concerned about contacting the walls with head and toe and getting wet.

Tilt - yes, you will get slightly damp if you hit the walls. I don't get the Ohio National Guard joke, but I'm offended that you grouped them all togheter and tied them in with condesation, you bigot you.

Tom - I fit in it last weekend just fine. The 3 hooters girls were comfortable too.

stupid question.....if it's got a floor, why do you need a bug screen or nest or whatever it's called sold separately?

I took mine in to a shop yesterday. Gonna add no-see-um around the perimeter and modify the floor. Ti stakes and some triptease cord are next. This tent is gonna ROCK!

No floor or bug netting?

Stove, I like it cause it is a 4 season shelter. That is the only type I don't have. I know there isn't a lot of use for it in Tenn but at least I would have it if I ever needed it. Trying to talk myself into buying it...lol

I talked myself into buying it today. It was shipping today and the shipping was $ 1.00 for UPS Ground. Not a bad price for the shelter plus shipping.
