“The suitcase is back and it is not a Monday!” 11:36:41 PM 3/18/03 “what happened to the pop up stopper ad when i need it? hehe” 11:37:04 PM 3/18/03 “Yeah, just saw it for the first time! Annoying!” 11:45:58 PM 3/18/03 “Please tell me there's a way to stop it without downloading new software.” 1:03:14 AM 3/19/03 “I had almost put it behind me. But NOOOOOO!! 3 flying suitcases and it's not even 9:00 A.M.” 8:31:12 AM 3/19/03 “Saw it once today. I had downloaded Pop-up Stopper, and that does not take care of it. Once more and I'm out of here for the day.” 8:33:09 AM 3/19/03 “That means, purveyors of the flying suitcase, there is now zero chance of my ever patronizing your firm, whatever the heII you are advertising!” 8:35:01 AM 3/19/03 “I have often wondered who is it that actually makes these pop-up adds prifitable. I have never clicked on one on purpose. And when I did open them accidentally. i didn't even read em. Just deleted it and went on. Do they really work?” 8:36:57 AM 3/19/03 “Good question, Hyway. I have always wondered about the effectiveness of advertising that it THAT annoying and intrusive. But, then agin, look at the success of some of TV's most irritating ad campaigns throughout b-casting history. Some have been huge, and cheap to boot...” 8:47:34 AM 3/19/03 “Back? I've just seen the damn thing for the first time...” 8:50:46 AM 3/19/03 “Apparently there are a lot of boneheads out there that will click on anything. Well, it's not quite that simple. My wife has called me a couple of times saying she had accidentally clicked on a pop-up when she meant to close it. Both times I think I had to tell her to reboot the machine to get rid of it, because I couldn't explain to her how close it otherwise. I don't think it's so much a matter of people actually wanting the product advertised, it's more a function of how deftly they can trick non-savvy computer users into clicking on the ad. Then they can claim a high click-through rate, which is one of the things that firms that advertise on the Internet want.” 8:58:27 AM 3/19/03 “bit, my wife downloaded a program once because a pop-up screen told her she had encountered a virus and was in dire straits. It told her to run XXXXX to clean out the virus. I had a heck of a time deleting out all the crap that program installed.” 9:03:51 AM 3/19/03 “Yeha I saw it too today! I thought it was only a monday thingy?” 9:12:25 AM 3/19/03 “hyway, my wife has called me a couple of times saying that she had seen a similar message. Fortunately she now knows to just close those boxes.” 9:18:59 AM 3/19/03 “ok who killed it? they have flown the coop. they are gone for now.” 9:19:50 AM 3/19/03 “Gone, I just saw one. Dam suitcases.” 9:22:52 AM 3/19/03 “Oi! Stupid suitcase! It doesn't seem to be popping up as often.” 9:23:26 AM 3/19/03 “Just saw my second of the day. See y'all tomorrow!” 9:24:11 AM 3/19/03 “I'm up to two and I have only been here 15 minutes.” 9:36:55 AM 3/19/03 “It's been annoying me all morning.” 11:03:41 AM 3/19/03 “I've only seen it 3 times so far today. That's not too bad.” 12:05:26 PM 3/19/03 “does anyone else see the irony of the pop-up ad that is for a pop-up ad stopper?? It is almost as funny as spam advertising "spam stoppers".” 12:20:42 PM 3/19/03 “I've noticed a banner ad for a popup stopper, not a popup ad.” 12:21:29 PM 3/19/03
