The Thread That Excludes War and The Fre nchView MessagesRock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductions “Did anyone watch them the other night. Some of the bands were a few of my personal favorites. It was good to see Elvis Costello perform live, as well as AC/DC. Angus Young is always a great sight to watch. They also did a nice tribute to Joe Strummer and the Clash. Rounding out the show were the induction and performances by the Police and The Righteous Brothers. Good show, I thought...” 8:54:16 AM 3/19/03 “I thought it was BS that they didn't honor Jerry Lewis at it!” 8:55:38 AM 3/19/03 “WAR FRENCH” 8:57:06 AM 3/19/03 “and the” 8:57:58 AM 3/19/03 “You know, BB. You are right. A lot of great ones do get excluded from these things all the time. Look at the Academy Awards. There is inner politics built into these things. The killer was awesome. I agree. And it's too bad the stigmas placed on people get in the way of honoring them...” 8:58:47 AM 3/19/03 “I know, Jerry only gets serious play in a country that I can't mention on this thread. It is truely a shame, he is one of the greatest crooners of all time.” 9:01:20 AM 3/19/03 “plus he plays piano with his feet and ass!! C'mon... That man could rock!” 9:03:53 AM 3/19/03 “And as for you, Indiana John Cougar Melloncamp, or whatever the f$ck your name is... You're lucky I appreciate a wiseguy...” 9:05:07 AM 3/19/03 “Yeah, and it pisses me off that Dean got all the credit. If it wasn't for Jerry, Dean would have been drinking Popov instead of Stoli. No friggin' respect! And why did Giamatti ban Jerry from baseball, he was a sure fire hall of famer, what gives!” 9:06:04 AM 3/19/03 “WAR WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? NOTHING SAY IT AGAIN.” 9:09:13 AM 3/19/03 “Lady, ... OH LADY ... LAAYDEEE!” 9:19:23 AM 3/19/03 “The Hollies, Todd Rundgren, Badfinger, Chicago, Yes, The Moody Blues, Bob Seger, Johnny Rivers, The Guess Who, Linda Ronstadt, Big Star, and Electric Light Orchestra. When these guys get in, I'll pay more attention to the "Hall of Shame". :(” 9:37:17 AM 3/19/03 “Good choices, SS. To be honest, I am a fan of all of them. i especially love the Moodys (one of the best bands ever to exist, IMO)” 10:02:24 AM 3/19/03 “"And as for you, Indiana John Cougar Melloncamp, or whatever the f$ck your name is... You're lucky I appreciate a wiseguy..." treebeard 09:05:07 AM 03/19/03 Buddha was in on it too! He supplied "and the" Hey, maybe John Cougar will make the hall of shame too. :-)” 12:26:07 PM 3/19/03 “Some guy from Ohio, perhaps, but not the Buddha.” 12:35:30 PM 3/19/03 “Yeah Buddha Bear, yo! Tilt, you know I'd share a fox hole with you any day. AFter this whole war is over, and all things french are eliminated from the face of the earth, and after I've broken all of Matt's board policies, let's sit down, have a coke, and discuss the "string theorum" and time space continum.” 12:39:04 PM 3/19/03 “It's pretty ugly, really. It doesn't do anything but stir up a lot of nasty #&%!$ as far as I can tell. You just joke around, but then the trolls take over. I've met a few French people over the last few decades, and they've all been nice people. They don't deserve this.” 1:01:32 PM 3/19/03 “C'est la guerre, mai oui?” 1:04:00 PM 3/19/03 “I have no problem with French people, and know a few myself Tilt, it's just the policies and their love for Jerry Lewis that I can do without. Can we still be friends? :(” 1:26:03 PM 3/19/03 “If somebody started a thread called "Thread about the War and the French", would people finally discuss something besides that on it?” 1:27:15 PM 3/19/03 “Guess that was my my first oversight, Bit” 1:29:01 PM 3/19/03 “Best laid plans and all that, treebeard...” 1:29:57 PM 3/19/03 “Now I see another oversight I made above, and I swear this is true. I just realized that Buddha Bear said Jerry Lewis, when I thought he was talking about Jerry Lee Lewis. I would feel really stupid, but actually, it's not unreasonable to think of JLL instead of JL when talking about the R & R Hall of Fame. Actually, I should have known something was wrong when he called him a crooner. Excuse, I am going to the men's room to clean the f--k out of these glasses....” 1:33:38 PM 3/19/03 “I was confused too, but I knew that JL sang occaisionally...” 1:37:08 PM 3/19/03 “I also called him 'the killer', JLL's nickname. LMAO thinking of Jerry Lewis with that name. Also, playing the piano with his ass...” 1:39:14 PM 3/19/03 “I know, I know, I was picturing Jerry Lewis doing all those things, but still Jerry Lee Lewis never came to mind. Maybe if someone had mentioned him marrying his cousin...” 1:41:08 PM 3/19/03 “I was going to say that, too. But, I got off on another tangent” 1:42:28 PM 3/19/03 “GENEVA - High-flying French financier Edouard Stern, murdered this week in Geneva, was found shot three times on his bedroom floor dressed in a latex rubber suit, Swiss newspapers reported on Friday. "Colleagues discovered his body clothed completely in latex rubber," said Geneva daily Le Temps, without citing a source for the information. "The French banker took three bullets, two of them in the head," said daily La Tribune de Geneve. [...] Stern, one of France's richest men, who was poised a few years ago to take over the helm of French investment bank Lazard, lived in a luxury apartment near Geneva's centre, equipped with a high-tech security system and situated just above a police station. Stern's neighbors heard no sign of a disturbance in the flat, Swiss newspapers reported. They speculated that the latex rubber suit may have been a ploy by his assailants to distract the police. Investigators think it likely that Stern opened the door to his attacker, judge Graber said on Thursday. Full Story” 3:04:09 PM 3/17/05 “They speculated that the latex rubber suit may have been a ploy by his assailants to distract the police. Love that. This always happens to S&M/kink newbies. They forget to specify that necrophilia is not an option when placing ads. last edited: 3/17/05 3:21:59 PM” 3:20:15 PM 3/17/05 “You make sure always to specify that don't you?” 3:25:05 PM 3/17/05 “I do have some limits.” 3:25:44 PM 3/17/05 “so no necrofilia. Dang, why have I wasted all this time pursueing you?” 3:29:50 PM 3/17/05 Is this post acceptable? “I think I'll uncork a nice bottle of French claret as I puruse antiwar.com tonight. Nothing like a full bodied red while I mine some more nuggets to post at TT. > Then too, maybe I'll listen to some Phil Ochs and early Dylan. Their stuff always put me in anti-government sorta frame of mind. last edited: 3/17/05 3:31:44 PM” 3:30:40 PM 3/17/05 “Ochs was awesome. Play "Love Me, I'm A Liberal" for stovestomper!” 3:32:17 PM 3/17/05 “I clicked on this thread because of the title .... FALSE ADVERTISING ----” 4:51:34 PM 3/17/05 “Somebody got shot in Europe? The people who tell us so much about gun control and the uncivilized, uncultured, gun-loving, violent Americans? That Europe?” 4:54:01 PM 3/17/05 “You are the cubit zirconium to bit pusher’s diamond.” 4:55:20 PM 3/17/05 “What the Hell is a "cubit"?” 1:45:27 PM 3/18/05 “Fake diamond. It's what Word came up with. I had no idea how to spell it. It's also the measurement between your wrist and your elbow. Normally about 18". Either way I'll give ya the misspelling. Go ahead...let me have it.” 1:51:52 PM 3/18/05 “Cubic zirconium Cubit if you're building an ark” 2:01:48 PM 3/18/05 “"Let's see.... I used to know what a cubit was...."” 5:03:30 PM 3/18/05 “I just know you need lots and lots of them to build an ark.” 8:06:24 PM 3/18/05 a fun test that remotely involves cubits 8:08:06 PM 3/18/05 A cubit “The length from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger--usually equated to 18 inches.” 12:50:39 AM 3/19/05 “"Cubit if you're building an ark” An ark made from diamonds? BAM! "Too much bling?"” 8:22:54 AM 3/19/05 “Ok, the original thread was about the Rock and roll Hall of Fame. So, I have to mention... I saw part of the VH1 program on the induction tonight. I caught bits and pieces of it, but watched the U-2 induction, being a big Springsteen fan. The induction speech was awesome! And the rendition of "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" was phenomenal. The Edge is such a fine guitar player and Bruce and Bono sounded fine...” 10:28:45 PM 3/19/05 Tree “Remember the Ochs song " I Declare the War is Over." Great tune. Also anyone remember the Bob Seeger anti-war song "2+2 On My Mind"? I looked for it once several years ago but couldn't find it for sale anywhere on the net. Tremendous song.” 2:03:21 PM 3/20/05 “Also did you Neil Young fans know that you can now buy a cd of "On the Beach"? Just released late last year for the first time 30 years after the album came out. Now I don't have to burn cds for my friends with my mint copy LP.” 2:07:49 PM 3/20/05 “SH, the "War Is Over" is from Ochs' Tape From California album, my personal favorite album of his stuff. But, I don't remember the Seger song. I should try and download it to check it out. Thanks... last edited: 3/21/05 8:52:16 AM” 8:51:48 AM 3/21/05 Tree “No wonder I couldn't find that Seger song. It's real title is "2+2=?". When all else fails go to the Bob Seger site. It must have been recorded around 1966 and I don't think it got a lot of airplay. But it did on WPDQ and WAPE (the Big Ape)in Jacksonville, Florida. Great stations in the golden age of AM radio! I can't tell you the afternoons I sat and listened to "The Top Five at Five". There were days when groups like the Beatles had several new, fresh songs on the top five on the same afternoon. That was before I could afford my own stereo and LPs. Mostly I just listened to my Dad's Artie Shaw, Henry Mancini, Floyd Cramer, and Ray Charles records. I still love that stuff. last edited: 3/21/05 11:51:47 AM” 11:46:31 AM 3/21/05
