new pet....

“I can not believe it, my 9 year old just caught a squirl. Those little suckers are fast, still don't understand how he caught it without getting bitten.

I guess we are having a new pet until daddy sees it.”

“After a seeing a few skunks out in the woods, I thought about getting one, too. But after investigating, it sounded like they could be a big hassle.

You can't get away with feeding them commercial pet food. Be prepared to steam brocolli and cauliflower for them. Some people try to feed them cat food but the Skunk People say you shouldn't.

They can become 'biters'... and they have those sharp little needle-teeth like puppies their entire lives. They say you're not supposed to ever correct them by just giving them a small swat and you shouldn't play rough with them.

Vaccination can be problematic...


So I finally got a weasel, LOL

They're small (females are ~2 lbs), and you have be careful not to step on the little buggers or let them get caught in a doorway, but they have much better personalities.

They sleep about 20 hours a day, so it's like having a part-time pet. I guess that's why people who get a ferret usually wind up with three or four of them.

They say it's safer for them to stay in their cages except for the 3 or 4 hours they're up and running around, but this one has the run of the house. She's usually up for 2 hours near sunup and another 2 at sunset.

I got her at a local pet store. She was already 'fixed' and had her scent gland removed. It's not nearly as bad as a skunk's scent gland, but they say you're still much happier without it, LOL

All customized and ready to go... $120

Then they get you with the Accessories... the Weasel Cage, the Weasel Toys... the Weasel Camping Cage... the Weasel Sleeping Bag... <G>... but she's a sweet little animal, she never makes a sound, she loves her Ferret Food (just like dry cat food, only different) and she makes it to the 'catbox' about 70% of the time.

All I have to do is put out the food and water, and trim her claws every two weeks.
