A Stove “We're going down South Canyon this weekend and Robert is taking his fishing gear. I don't want to try and cook fish with my esbit and our old Hank Roberts stove leaks too much. I want a canister stove that is lightweight, reliable and available locally. I can get ordinary brands somewhere in town. Thanks in advance for picking your brains. MP” 3:32:50 AM 3/20/03 “Mary, try the msr model that is the step above the pocket rocket, can't remember the name but the burner is much more diffused. Looks like it should spread the heat out more than the PR. Or if you are not concerned about weight and want to go cheap try a century from Wally world. They take the biger cannisters, I used to use one for car camping. Works good and it is cheap.” 8:23:04 AM 3/20/03 “I know a guy who used to carry a Gaz stove. He seemed to like it. I haven't heard anything about them on the 'net for a while. You could go with the Pocket Rocket and use a heat diffuser plate if that's a problem. I haven't seen a new one from MSR, I'll check their site....” 8:30:09 AM 3/20/03 “MaryPhyl - I have a MSR Superfly and use it car camping a lot. The flame pattern is wide (good for frying) and can be turned down for slow cooking or up for blowtorch. It can use several different brand canisters for fuel. I have used MSR isofuel, and a couple of different coleman/peak1 canisters.” 8:38:14 AM 3/20/03 8:41:53 AM 3/20/03 “That is the one that I was talking about.” 9:01:27 AM 3/20/03 “Well--I went snd looked at stoves. The stoves were light enough but the canisters were pretty big and the store did not have scales and got defensive when I asked. So--I decided we could probably cook a fish with the esbit by poaching it. Thanks for your respones. Mary” 4:22:17 PM 3/20/03
