So What is your favorite
What is your favorite luxury item to take backpacking. Something that you could do without but you take to make your trip more fun, more comfy, etc?

i always think about the one thing i would take, if i were on Survivor! yeah, i need a life.

usually, on backpacking trips, i take a monkey. and beer. and playing cards!

if it were one thing, like on Survivor...either playing cards, lip balm (although maybe i could make some or something), or vitamins. those people probably act so stupid because they're vitamin-deficient! that's my new analysis, anyway.

I'm with you on the Radio Geo, and the alcohol, gotto be the hard stuff though, I find it's rarely worth carrying beer.

Enough of this talk about tarpy.

I always take:

A deck of cards and small cribbage board.

Plenty of Bourbon.

Sometimes some Vodka and Crystal Light Lemonade.

Small AM/FM radio.

Thought about taking my stunt kite but haven't yet. Can't weigh as much as a fishing rod and gear.

The tax I pay is in the extra weight I carry anyways.

Most all of my friends here still play cribbage, and some even know how to play eucher.

The first backpack trip I did, when I got back into it, I packed that board and cards. When I pulled it out the guy I was with almost crapped his pant. "You carried that?" he said. I said yup. He said "Then we are playing by my rules"

"Dime a point, fifty cents a corner, and a dollar a game. Skunks are double."

After two games he owed me about $25. Needless to say he got mad and wouldn't play anymore!!!!

We still talk about it to this day.

You would have to have taken on me after him, being I was the winner.

Good Luck to you.

After hiking, we always like to sit out in a mountain meadow on our pads and play cards and sip on the Bourbon, and have a smoke. Great way to relax.

Now the time we camped in an outfitters camp, that was nice. We had a folding table and chairs to play on.

my cigs (at least for now)

i don't consider my thermarest a luxury.
