“Thanks, bitpusher, my parents had some issues with this site - so I just hung low for awile - for things to calm down and be forgoten. I was on the "other site" for a while - but I like it here better.
I heard the Red Ledge is not as durable as regular Gote Tex stuff - but I'm not sure if that would be a real issue with me - I'm pretty gentle with my clothing - no real mountains to climb around here

“Red Ledge may not hold up as good as Gore-Tex stuff, but you can buy 4 Red Ledge outfits (or more, maybe) for the price of one Gore-Tex outfit. It's good stuff to start out with.

Don't sweat your folks too much, they mean well.”

“Hey Dawn! It's nice to see you back. Goretex rain wear is generally HOT and sometimes pretty heavy. It's better for late Fall, winter and early spring. The Red ledge rain gear got a nice review in backpacker mag.”

“if your not planning on doing any bushwhacking buy some Frogg Toggs rainware. You can get the jacket and pants fairly cheap.”

“Got me a Hilleberg Atko tent and a new Katadyn Hiker filter. On the list: a good hat for hiking that has a nice brim but good ventilation.”

“Thanks. sassafras. The Red Ledge is 13 oz for the coat and 8 oz for the pants - but will it be too hot in the summer. We have some hot muggy days around here - where a tank top and shorts are too hot - but what about a cool rainy day - are they still too hot ? Am I expecting too much?

Ewker - I never heard of them - are they similar to the Red Ledge ? Who sells them ?

“Dawn, if it's that warm out, get wet sister! Consider it a shower, lol. I use my rain gear all year, except for winter when everthing is frozen and summer, in the hottest months, (although I always pack it in summer, just in case).”

“I got a P2 pack, which I'll take to Thunder River in April (one spot open yet), doesn't look like any possiblities sooner than that. Some other miscellaneous stuff-gaiters, water contaniners, etc.”
