I have been known to drink the odd smirnoff ice, but usually at the time of the evening when you could put a glass of white gas on the table in front of me and I'd drink it :o)

I was brought up in a country where a bell rings at 11pm and then the bar closes - I can always tell the time when I'm drunk :o)

I like Wild Turkey, or Grandad.

...and doing shots is barbaric! The good stuff should be enjoyed, not endured.

WT and Grandad, much as I hate to say it are CRAP. Turkey wasn't even made by Austin Nichols until recently , just blended from stuff they bought from others, suggared up and bottled with a high price. Even Makers MArk pales to the good stuff out there. My pappy always told me ( and he's an alcoholic so he should know) that if you have to mix your liquor you don't like it anyway so why drink it. ( He is a bourbon and water guy) Just likes it a little too much.

What The Heck Does "AlotOfCharacter" Mean?
I Emailed Makers Mark a few weeks ago to ask them how long they aged their bourbon prior to bottling. I wondered that because their website does not state the duration. Here's Their reply...
Maker's Mark is aged until we feel it is fully mature...there is no
specific time on this and that is why there is nothing listed on the
bottle. Usually they are aged around 6years, but it may be a little shorter
or longer.

I'm $plurging for a bottle of Basil Hayden tommorrow.

Well..........................I Did It
Got'sk me a bottle of Knob Creek after work today. I wanted to try Basil Hayden's first but the store didn't have it. Oh well, Knob Creek was what I originally intended on getting anyways. Me and a buddy just had to taste test it immediately, and guess what...it tastes like whiskey. 8)

Don't drink it out of a plastic flask, it will absorb some of the plastic taste, yeeeech

Well that's just great!!!!!

No plastic container, eh? That rules out the tiny Nalgene I was going to use as a hiking flask.

Yeah, but beer goes very well in a nalgene. Just ask Chili and Daynhiker.

the platypus flask doesn't wreck the flavor of whiskey. Of course it was only in there a couple of days.

Polycarbonate should not affect the taste of bourbon. Polyethylene and polypropylene will.

This May Warrant A Whole New Thread
My tiny Nalgene is most likely Polyethylene...because I know it's NOT lexan. Shucks!

How's this for a whiskey flask?

Anybody else have good ideas for small whiskey flask/containers?

Another Flask-Worthy Container
Here's some lexan Nalgene containers somewhere in this link. Check the "lexan, square, screwcap" ones. I like the idea of having a 4oz or 8oz container...just enough for a buzz but not enough for a schlicker or hangover.

Trail Tradition
Knob Creek has been on my list of bp essentials for a couple of years now - at least one picture from each trip has the KC bottle somewhere in the frame, kinda like Waldo.
It tastes great, is less filling, and has been medically proven to keep the bears away.
A very worthy Plan B is Grandad 114. Smoother than the lower proof GD's, and is a great choice for ultralight fans.

I like you guys already!

I'm In Bourbon Heaven
I thought my bottle was nearing the bottom so I went and got some Basil Hayden to try. Man that stuff is smooth. And it turns out I still have over 1/2 a bottle of Woodford left.

...now if I only had $45 today to get that 1 bottle of Bookers that was sitting on the shelf.

For you, CMB
Gone are the days when the ox fall down
Take up the yoke and plow the fields around
Gone are the days when the ladies said please
Gen'ral Jack Jones won't you come to me.

Brown eyed women and red grenadine
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down
And it looks like the old man's getting on.

1920 when he steped to the bar
drank to the dregs of the whiskey jar,
1930 when the wall caved in
he made his way selling red eyed gin.

Brown eyed women and red grenadine
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down
And it looks like the old man's getting on.

Delilah Jones was the mother of twins
Two times over and the rest was sins
Raised eight boys, only I turned bad
Didn't get the lickin's that the other ones had.

Brown eyed women and red grenadine
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down
And it looks like the old man's getting on.

Tumble down shack in Big Foot County
Snowed so hard that the roof caved in
Delilah Jones went to meet her god
And the old man never was the same again.

Daddy made whiskey and he made it well
Cost two dollars and burned like hell
I cut hickory just to fire the still
Drink down a bottle and be ready to kill.

Brown eyed women and red grenadine
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down
And it looks like the old man's getting on.

Gone are the days when the ox fall down
You take up the yoke and plow the fields around
Gone are the days when the ladies said please
Gen'ral Jack Jones won't you come to me.

Brown eyed women and red grenadine
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean

And it looks like the old man's getting on
And it looks like the old man's getting on.
