Hey Matt: Time for a new category? Maybe

“Matt, I was just thinking to my self that we have lots of war threads. Maybe we should either all post on the same War Thread, or make a new icon for War. Possably a cutless or a mushroom cloud, maybe cross hairs.

My point is that in todays time, a temporary icon may prove usefull. I don't want to make war threads under "General" for they are not General backpacking threads by any means. At the same time "chatter" is to playfull for a serious topic.

You decide, your site. I'm just shooting an idea.”

Then again if one could select only the catagories one wanted with perhaps check boxes it might be helpfull to some. Just a random synapse firing....”

“bitpusher, the problem with that is the imfamous "thread creep" syndrome. Some of the funniest threads started out as something that you would probably select to ignore.”

“True, and since I tend to ignore threads I don't want to read anyway, I know I've missed out on some stuff.

I had this idea a long time ago, when there was a real bozo on the board creating threads with names like "Death to Israel" and "Death to America". I just avoided those threads, but it was maddening to have to see them everyday until Matt finally deleted them, or whatever happened.”

“I remember in the days of old, when forums had "ignore poster" features.”

“That's really the only way to fight the bad trolls, since telling everyone to ignore them works so poorly. Unfortunately, it could be applied to regular posters as well, and then you miss out on stuff again. Or perhaps a discussion you're reading loses its logical flow because a key post by someone you've blocked doesn't appear.

“I personally think that, among the crew here, TILT should be the one to determine and assign the icons to everyone.

Pursuant to Stikmon's comment above, I think that Tilt is better positioned than any of us to determine who, and what are appropriate categories of definition and speech.

I furhter nominate Tilt to be in charge of monitoring the categories to be sure that no one strays from his or her assigned profile. We could call him the "Profile CHief" or "PC" for short.
