Shes right?
San Quentin Quail

I just got a job offer from the State of California to work in San Quentin as an office assistant... It would be full time and with bennifits, making at least 1000 bucks more a month then what I am making now. Should I go for it?
This working two jobs thing leaves me hardly any time to eat and sleep and I am about ready to die :( If nothing else it would get my foot in the door for a better government job... but if my mom is right I would have to face prisoners on a daily basis.

Should I go for it?

Try it. If you hate it, take a second job again, but make your second job to look for another job. Wost that can happen is you'll hate it.

I've worked in a max security state facility for the last 18 years. I doubt very much that office staff would come in contact with inmates. It's possible that trustee's would be assisting or cleaning the offices. The bigger problem is young office staffers falling in love with these con men. They are VERY good at it.

$1000 More A Month = $12,000 A Year...A No-Brainer
Most jails and prisons are privately owned, yet state and federally funded. Unless you are a guard, you won't come in contact with the inmates. On the other hand, you'll find many guards that are worse than and deserve to be an inmate.

A lot of people come and go in these jobs. You have to have a tough exterior to work in a prison where you are in constant contact with the prisoners. What do you do to a con doing natural life who with two thrusts, pokes your eyes out. Give him a few years more time. NOT. Try the job. Within a month, you will know if the work is right for you. If any of the inmates ever did time in Illinois prisons, tell them I said Hi.

Comparatively speaking, benefits for California state employees are pretty good (maybe that's one reason we are in such deep budget trouble!).

I don't see our prisons going out of business here either.

In Maine you get special retirement if you come in contact with prisoners.
