“boy michael moore sure made an ass of himself. the academy awards is no place for a soapbox.” 9:27:41 PM 3/23/03 “Gee, what happened to that "Left Wing Hollywood" routine?” 10:00:14 PM 3/23/03 “What makes the Academy Awards so sacred that there is no room for politics or controversy?” 10:13:58 PM 3/23/03 “So thats the crap thats on the tv. Thats just one more reason to kill your tv. 8)” 10:17:52 PM 3/23/03 “What? Did M. Moore actually get booed by the Oscar srowd? I didn't watch. He open his piehole too wide?” 11:12:11 PM 3/23/03 “The news reported that he came up to accept his award and trashed Bush and the war effort and was booed off the stage. I doubt that they were booing his content, but they don't want him shiiting where they eat.” 11:25:27 PM 3/23/03 “I just happened to tune in when he was making his "acceptance speech." Clearly, knowing the general leftward bent of the Hollywood crowd, any antiwar words would be largely preaching to the choir. I agree that it was more likely booing the act, not the message.” 12:09:34 AM 3/24/03 “the academy awards ARE sort of sacred because of all the tradition behind it. its the only award show i have any respect for. its a time when you should be gracious, not preaching. agree or disagree with bush and the war, save it for the protest march.” 6:14:03 AM 3/24/03 “Seriously, Moore did spoil the party. He crossed a line by claiming to speak for everyone there or maybe the whole country(using "we" so much). Of course that's what Moore is about - crashing the party by confronting people with things he thinks are important. He is self-righteous and in your face. How could people not expect some rude politicizing from him. Anyway. The award show is party - an promotional party for an industry. I agree that he showed bad manners, but isn't it an odd variant of PC to make a big deal of someone showing bad manners by pushing his politics at a movie industry party?” 8:20:06 AM 3/24/03 “Hey, invite Michael Moore to a party and what do you expect? He's a partisan and makes no bones about it. The producers had to know what might happen if he won. It's just part of Oscar history now. Let's just be glad he didn't "streak" the show. Actually, the "we" aspect was in reference to the other documentary film nominees who he had join him on stage to accept the award in the name of "reality" vs. the fiction of the rest of Hollywood and, in his mind, Washington. Perhaps a much to fine a point to try to get across in an Oscar acceptance speech. The boos seemed to be genuinely aimed at the message as well as the delivery style, and were not universal. The camera panning the crowd showed smiles of pleasure on the faces of many, including some big stars, such as Harrison Ford, though they clearly were not about to get up and applaud Moore, which might have started a real brouhaha. Other heartfelt expressions of concern about the war were made more artfully and graciously, to be sure, by other award recipients and were accepted with by the audience with equal grace and warmth.” 8:59:54 AM 3/24/03 “What a tool.” 9:00:45 AM 3/24/03 “I'm glad you found something to admire, but geez Buddha... most of us were looking at his face.” 9:04:26 AM 3/24/03 “Tilted one: I will hafta take a look at a text of what he said. I gotta admit, I just saw part of it - my son was watching the whole thing and I just walked into the room when something interesting was happening (so I probably only saw half of what he said).” 9:07:12 AM 3/24/03 “Moore did set up the funniest line I heard (by Steve Martin).” 9:20:25 AM 3/24/03 “I didn't see it either Pekka. I know it was a Sunday night and all, but I still had other things to do than watch an awards show... I mean... c'MON, LOL I just thought it was hilarious that "Those Damn Commies had booed Michael Moore". I still remmber the Indian woman being booed... the one who Marlon Brando sent to refuse the best actor award for The Godfather(?). The Hollywood Types didn't like that At All, as I recall, LOL. He threw that goldplated doorstop right back in their faces. I loved it.” 10:08:50 AM 3/24/03 “C'mon Ped, what was the line???” 10:10:21 AM 3/24/03 “Is hypocrisy that bad from someone who shuns capitalism and the Second Amendment yet makes millions from making a mockery of a mass shooting?” 10:29:02 AM 3/24/03 “Obviously someone who doesn't like guns and is against war must be a communist then Cookie? I don't think he's ever said he shuns Capitalism.” 10:31:00 AM 3/24/03 “Michael Moore is an arse. Nothing he does or says surprises me. He's just a rosy butthole passing gas.” 10:40:36 AM 3/24/03 “Uh yeah, I believe Moore is against the ABUSES of capitalism, not capitalism.....pay attention, people!” 10:43:32 AM 3/24/03 10:43:36 AM 3/24/03 “It's okay Tom, some folks PREFER that sort of thing, apparently.” 10:47:05 AM 3/24/03 “Ok then, switch “capitalism” (as we all know “capitalism” that benefits those who take chances and leads to being rich is BAD and that capitalism that benefit’s the little guy [table scraps and trickle down of big business] GOOD) with “big business” and you have Moore. Can you say he hasn’t made big business off the very things he hates? Watch the video rental ratings go through the roof as he gets richer and the subjects of his 2nd tier movies stays the same! What a well paid voice of the little guy he is! And in the end does poking fun at his pet peeves change them? Does it do ANYTHING besides pay his bills? You are a slave to Hollywood! Tilt, I don't think making fun of gays is a good way to make a point. If you have a point make it.” 11:09:19 AM 3/24/03 “So what's he supposed to do, make shows and movies that nobody watches so he doesn't make any money? And although his targets are sometimes misplaced and his potrayals very one-sided - he does at least bring some of the questionable practices of some big businesses into the spotlight. Just as there's room for the right wing like Rush, then there's room for Michael Moore.” 11:19:02 AM 3/24/03 “What ynami-squared said.” 11:20:13 AM 3/24/03 “I thought Bowling for Columbine was interesting...” 11:23:42 AM 3/24/03 “LOL! Rush makes no secrete he is a capitalist and that there is no apology for getting rich from your own achievements. Moore coming from the far left makes being rich a crime…while at the exact same time he gets rich from parodies of this very concept. Now, if he got rich from his work and the gave most of this money to the enemies of his subjects I would not call him a hypocrite. Sense he is a fat cat in his own right I will continue to call him “Hypocrite”.” 11:25:55 AM 3/24/03 “"Moore coming from the far left makes being rich a crime." - you make one hell of a leap there Cookie!” 11:32:25 AM 3/24/03 “We disagree, and that’s fine. I prefer to recognize differences and move on than attempt to waste good urine on a dumb pissing match. If you haven’t gotten it within three of my posts, you aren’t ever going to get it. Move on…” 11:36:48 AM 3/24/03 “Whew! That Cookie stuff is confusing! Mikey Moore is a fat guy though.....that much is obvious!” 11:39:21 AM 3/24/03 “Oh I get it Cookie - I completely understand what you're saying - you're just wrong :o)” 11:39:23 AM 3/24/03 “Oh I'm gonna LOVE this place! LOL!” 11:45:15 AM 3/24/03 “HUMAN SHIELDS WANTED; Pro-choice liberals preferred, no experience necessary.” 11:52:12 AM 3/24/03 ““It was so sweet backstage, you should have seen it,” Martin joked. “The Teamsters were helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo.”” 12:11:19 PM 3/24/03 “Reversing his argument a little I think that as he's so in favour of war and so critical of those that oppose it, we should have a collection for an plane ticket to the Middle East for Ultra so that he can storm Baghdad and kill Saddam with his bare hands” 12:26:22 PM 3/24/03 “I can't believe nobody has made a "Bowling for Booze" thread yet.” 12:29:08 PM 3/24/03 “Yep, 'CP', we don't have NEARLY enough rightwing broken record types around Here, LOL (that's assuming you're not just another rush clone --- but it doesn't really matter does it? The effect is the same.) Hey, Ynami, I'll toss in a quarter for that plane ticket. What noble cause.” 12:58:27 PM 3/24/03 “Fritz: Sorry I didn't give you the line, but Violin did. I couldn't rememer the exact words.” 3:52:56 PM 3/24/03 “Some people just don't know when it's better to shut up. MM's little speech is going to come back and bite him in the @ss.” 10:20:10 PM 3/24/03 “At least he speaks using facts, and doesn't just go on a gut reaction.” 11:48:33 PM 3/24/03 “I heard Moore's comments repeated on the radio several times. It sounded to me like he was implying he represented the whole industry. It was a matter of very poor taste to bring all the other nominees up on stage and do what he did. If I was an anti-war actor sitting in the audience, I would have been embarrassed to identify with comments that bordered on being anti-American because the war had just started. IMHO, the academy awards is a place where actors can annually glorify each other and their causes. It's all about them. If it was about the movies, then they would be talking the movies we like and watch. I quit watching the academy awards many years ago because most of the movies I liked ever won anything.” 12:17:08 AM 3/25/03 “make that "never won anything."” 12:18:42 AM 3/25/03 1:10:37 PM 12/15/05
