I need a solo tentView MessagesSolo tent “Can anyone recommend a good solo tent? I have been looking at the Mountain Hardware PCT. Anyone got it or recommend it?” 4:09:44 PM 3/26/03 “I just got a Sierra Designs LightYear, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, so I can't vouch for it.” 4:11:01 PM 3/26/03 “Thank you! I will look into it.” 4:21:57 PM 3/26/03 “I've been eyeing the Crazy Creek Crib which is a tarp and hammock combo. The price seems a bargain. I wish Sgt Rock were about as I believe he has tested every hammock known to man. (I miss him already. Anyone know if he's shipped out yet?)” 4:22:43 PM 3/26/03 “I want someone to get the new REI coup's and sedans so we can find out if they are any good.” 4:32:00 PM 3/26/03 “WK: It really depends on what you want the tent for and what you want to spend. Relatively High End: I love the Hilleberg Akto. It's a solid four season worthy tent that is very light and has a great vestibule for a solo tent. For a good mainstream three season, consider an MSR Zoid (they have several versions), or the Sierra Designs ultralight year. For a lot of room, but still affordable, try a lightweight two person like the SierraDesigns Clip Flashlight. The Mountain Hardwear Waypoint is single wall and has gotten a good buzz. It's new and I haven't seen one. But the tent weight is under two pounds. If you are feeling adventurous, try a Hammock (Hennessey or Clark Jungle - the Clark deluxe does better in cold weather, the Hennessey's are lighter) cut and paste this for some comparisons (note that because of the shape the Akto has more interior space than the specs suggest): http://www.gearfinder.com/compare.asp?FAM=Tents&MAXSELECTIONS=4&P=7264%2C2603%2C9594%2C12100&ITEMLIST=29390&ITEMLIST=29617&ITEMLIST=29556&ITEMLIST=29498&SUBMIT1=Compare” 4:45:03 PM 3/26/03 “I like my Integral Designs MK1 Lite a lot. It's a 1.5 person tent, but won't work if you over 6 feet tall.” 4:51:13 PM 3/26/03 mountain hardware trilight 1 “You should be able to find them now for about $200.00 Its a GREAT 1 person tent, and I used it during a major Pa blizzard and had no problems with it. 32" of snow and it didn't crash on me. and...its free standing too!!!” 5:59:03 PM 3/26/03 “Limpy: The Hennessey's are much lighter than the crib lex (the only one with bug netting), and the Clark's seem better made and, some are lighter. Both the Hennesseys and the Clarks are tarp/hammock combos.” 6:11:38 PM 3/26/03 “One more vote for the Hilleberg Akto. Great tent.” 6:32:38 PM 3/26/03 “I just go the Eureka Zeus Exo 1 and it is one of the best solo tents that I have ever owned you can get it at Campmor for $119. 8)” 6:33:14 PM 3/26/03 your weird... “what are you going to do with the Walrus you just got from me? that tent is great. but the tri light is greater.” 6:36:01 PM 3/26/03 “I know I am but what are you???? 8P” 6:37:29 PM 3/26/03 “I've been recently comparing the North Face Canyonlands and the Eureka Mountain Pass 1XT. TNF Canyonlands is 8ftx3.5ft and 40 inches high. The Mountain Pass is 8ftx3ft and 36 inches high. I decided on the Mountain Pass because I liked the vestibule areas and the door setups. Check them both out at Campmor.com. I set the tent up in the house (2 poles) and I fit comfortably in it. The huge door gives you alot of room to sit cross-legged and reach the outside, and there's a good bit of headroom inside when I sat in the powerlounger. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to set it up this weekend (geez, had to sleep in the shelter). Weight is not too bad at around 5 pounds and if it's anything like my other Eureka tents, it looks to be a solid three season tent. Price was under $125. Good luck!” 6:37:49 PM 3/26/03 “The one that I just got was 3 lbs 8 oz. 8)” 6:55:16 PM 3/26/03 “I love my eurika gossamer. It is radagast aproved. ” 7:04:28 PM 3/26/03 “That is a good tent!!!!! 8)” 7:05:58 PM 3/26/03 “i just picked up the Eureka Solataire from campmor for $60/70. 3 season tent. Under 3 lbs. I set it up last night and really liked it. Pretty roomy for a one-man. And, I like the way the fly folds away from your head and you can see the stars as you lie in bed” 7:55:07 PM 3/26/03 “I have that tent too its a good tent! 8)” 7:58:45 PM 3/26/03 “I love my North Face Canyonlands.” 8:09:57 PM 3/26/03 “Thats a ok tent! 8)” 8:10:49 PM 3/26/03 “If you want a "Shelter" that you can trust in weather, I'd stay clear of those small two hoop style cheapo models. If you need to hunker down in a storm, you'll want a solid shelter. The PCT is a good choice, many others out there as well. Do a thread search.” 8:33:16 PM 3/26/03 “A couple days ago I ordered an Alps Mountaineering Mystique 1.5 from the REI outlet for $65. That's cheap enough to keep me from being too disappointed if it's not a decent tent.” 9:56:40 PM 3/26/03 “CMB... so why'd ya steal my Eureka Zeus Exo 1?? geeeeeeez!!! Have you used it yet? I am anxious to see how it will do with condensation issues. Arky has the 2-person one. I see they lightened this tent up even more in their 2003 models.” 10:20:52 PM 3/26/03 “Thank you all for the information!” 10:48:35 AM 3/27/03 “WK - you can borrow my Sierra Designs Light Year if ya want to test it out!” 10:52:27 AM 3/27/03 “Alright just set up my new SD Clip Flashlight in the backyard, I DO NOT SEE ME SHARING THIS TENT! There is now way that 2 men could fit in this tent. Good thing I bought it as a 1 man, glad I didn't go smaller. Can't imagine having another body in here, even a close female friend would be tight. 4lbs 8oz packed weight isn't bad, I will carry the extra 1lb over the SD light year.” 12:48:28 PM 3/27/03 “Lt, my brother and I shared my Clip 2 last weekend. Of course, we're brothers, and that's different, lol....” 12:49:52 PM 3/27/03 “I don't even think I would want to be layig that close to my stinky brother.” 12:52:30 PM 3/27/03 “It was a trial, believe me. lol....” 12:58:00 PM 3/27/03 “I have always been impressed with the MSR (formerly Walrus) Zoid. http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=47567581&parent_category_rn=4500666” 12:59:44 PM 3/27/03 “I've had two in my Clip Flashlight, and yeah, ya definitly have to like each other!” 1:14:00 PM 3/27/03 “I looked at the zoid 2 and 1.5 before I bought the clip. It was really close but I decided that the zoids had too much mesh and the are really wide with the dual side vestibules. I don't usually leave anything in the vestibule except my boots.” 1:14:14 PM 3/27/03 “I've had two in my Clip Flashlight, and yeah, ya definitly have to like each other! I originally bought mine as a one-person, thinking I'd be kinda cramped in something smaller. But, I started caring about the weight more, and bought the Light Year at the last REI garage sale ($56!).” 1:15:29 PM 3/27/03 “The biggest problem with 2 people in a clip 2 is getting in and out without kicking your partner. At least, that's what I told my brother.” 1:16:45 PM 3/27/03 “Whoops, sorry about that double post!” 1:25:10 PM 3/27/03 “Wounded Knee... What seasons will you hike? Might I suggest something w/out a floor to save weight. I have the Black Diamond MegaMid. It's 3 lbs w/out the pole and could sleep four. The MH Bat Ray is plenty big for two and is around 3lbs, too.” 1:28:28 PM 3/27/03 “I like my tent. Ive only used it once since ive gotten it, but I did use it in the middle of witner. It got down to 12 degrees that night and it did pretty good. One word of advice, make sure you sleep with your head at the right end. I had to learn this the hard way. Solo Tent 2002” 2:08:12 PM 3/27/03 “Ya I used it its very pimp Lizs! And for how much it $$$ you can't beat it. 8)” 4:28:24 PM 3/27/03 “CMB..what was the tent you and jerbear had..the solitairs and gossomers?” 4:37:43 PM 3/27/03 “We had both! 8)” 4:48:55 PM 3/27/03 “I've got my eye on this one. It's 4 season, under 3 lbs and has space to burn. Of course, you have to know how to pitch a non-free-standing tent in various conditions.” 5:30:53 PM 3/27/03 “I have always wanted to use one of those tents Skully! 8)” 6:25:17 PM 3/27/03 Don't forget Bibler! “I still LOOVE my Bibler I tent, 4 lb 1 oz, 4 season & free standing. Pricy, but if you want a bombproof 4 season it's a tough tent to beat. Having said that, from what I've seen the Integral Designs MK is virtually identical, but less $$.” 6:30:59 PM 3/27/03 Mike, “It's the same as the one G00SE and I have but it's sil nylon. It's supposed to be 40% lighter. Since ours is 4.5lbs, that puts it at a little more than 2lbs. I'm OK with that, for that much space.” 6:39:37 PM 3/27/03 “That is way pimp girl!I want to get one of them for backpacking in snow.I am going to look into it..The one that I saw that you haw was very cool. 8)” 6:47:36 PM 3/27/03 Hey Tarra “I have the gossamer, same tent, I just have aluminum poles you have graphite. Great tent, I used it at FYAO, and I was fine. WE didn't have any wind or snow so I guess I don't know how well it would hold up in a true 4th season” 7:09:26 PM 3/27/03 “I have had mine in snow and it did just fine. 8)” 7:11:28 PM 3/27/03 “I really like having a freestanding mountaineering (4-season) tent.” 12:35:58 AM 3/28/03 “I just saw something on the new REI Roadster - 129 bucks - tent, fly and poles only weighs 2 pounds 10 oz. Looks a bit like the Zoid. http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=47600028&parent_category_rn=4500666&prgm=gm" target="_blank"> REI Roadster ” 9:52:22 AM 3/28/03
