Budders' Thermarest LE. I wanted to ask this. You probably don't have to blow it up.(Your moist
breath can freeze the inside)

Do you get enough from valve inflation to get comfortable?
And do you have to carry the thermarest in the pack for body heat to keep the cells from freezing?
elfskin2

1/20/04

Hey...It's MY Pad!
My 3/4 Thermarest I let self inflate, yet sometimes blow it up if I feel like it. I mean, it's my pad, I can do to it what I like.

And RE the LE, it does need some blowing to get it up.

When home after a hike I always let the pad self inflate, sit for a while, then deflate, then let sit for a while, then deflate, then let self inflate, etc., so any moisture built up inside will soon be expelled via this process.

Thanks Buddur. I have the camplite
that I haven't tried yet. I have the EMS version of the LE. I would
use it to trundle in maybe 5 miles
and set up. After a day of peak
bagging. I would lay in luxury, turn on the battery lantern, peep out the fly window and wonder when some one will solve the plumbing aspectof tenting. heheh!

Finally got the Mountain Hardwear Ascent Tundra parka in the right size and it is nice. Having a hard time deciding if I should keep it or return it and put the(considerable amount of) $ towards a mtn bike (that I won't be able to use until March but that I'll have to buy sooner or later and there are such good sales on last years models right now). Oh the paiiiinnnnn of these decisions!

woohoo! just picked up my bearikade from wild ideas at the post office! its 14" by 9" inches and light! i should have no problem getting 10 days worth of food plus my kitchen in there! the extra ounces compared to a stuffsack and rope will be worth it when i dont have to take the time and energy to bear-bag. its expensive tho ($245) my biggest worry now is maraudiing HIKERS taking my food

ive decided to return my bearikade for a smaller version. 14.5 by 9 is just enormous! if i filled it full of food, youd find me sitting down on a stump crying after the first mile. they make custom sizes, so maybe something like 8 or 9 by 12

I bought a Golite Core Polarguard vest. It looks pretty good, but it would be nicer if it had handwarmer pockets for wearing it as an outer layer. I think I'll add them myself soon.

Those vests do look sweet.

I made a girl a fleece pullover with zippered neck and chest pocket, and I ended up putting in side pockets for hands. I used some thin nylon for the insides but when I'd put my hands in them they felt cold. So I handsewed in fleece to the inside pockets and man did that warm up the pockets. I even made a tag that I sewed into a seam that said "w/(heart)"...you know...with love. Anyways, in the ong run, I think I scared her away.
Buddur

You mean she was afraid of a man who sews? I think a homemade gift would be way cool over something store bought.
I plan on just making simple pockets made with taffeta nylon insulated with 200 gram thinsulate and just sewing them to the vest. That way I won't have to cut anything on the vest. I won't need zippers on them just something for cold hands.

Buddur, if Birch ever falls off a cliff or something horrible and dies may I marry you? Will you be my back-up husband, I'd like an "I Heart You" vest. ;)

Major leak when I fitted the lantern to the propane/butane mix
cartridge. I have a 225 cartridge
but the lantern only accepts 2202
or a 2205. Wish I read the instructions in the store before the buy. They don't have any cartridges.

Went back to check the same lantern and found I wuzn't missing
any gaskets. Picked up a pair of
Montrail booties $30.marked down
from $75 The inner bootie is insulated with primaloft. The outer bootie is a water proof slipper that you can remove.
Hooray for me!
