Was thinking about getting it for awhile, went ahead and got it today just in case we end up going on the Blair Witch trip.” 8:34:13 PM 1/09/05 new canoe.... “16' Old Town Discovery Scout...already flipped her too. I also have a new hat coming to replace the one that got lost in the Rio Grand River as a result of the flipping...I just love new gear.” 9:34:39 PM 1/09/05 Let It Snow..... Let It Snow..... Let It Snow what the heck... “is that thing?” 9:36:53 PM 1/09/05 “It's a snow skate.” 9:38:51 PM 1/09/05 wow... “what do you do with it?” 9:47:34 PM 1/09/05 Well................. “[i]what do you do with it?” stikmon 9:47:34 PM 1/09/05 [i] Have fun...or get hurt.” 9:51:27 PM 1/09/05 Found this on a search.... “What is snow skating? It's essentially a crossover sport for people who do a lot of inline skating in the summer, and who are looking to do in the winter. (As opposed to snowboarding, which is a crossover sport for people who commit vandalism and other crimes in the summer.) (That's a joke!)” 9:58:47 PM 1/09/05 new tipi “I took the plunge and bought a Kifaru tipi - 8 man with a wood burning stove. It's massive but only about 8lbs (12 lbs with the stove). I set it up in my yard this weekend. It was 15 degrees outside - got a fire going in the stove with some dead branches and within 20 minutes it was 110 degrees inside the tent! now I can fit the whole fam damily in one tent that weighs less than my old walrus two man. Can't wait to use it in the mountains later this month!” 8:16:47 AM 1/10/05 thats cool Garfum... “and so is the skate board. Neat stuff that people are creating.” 8:21:30 AM 1/10/05 “Stikmon, what color did ya get? As I drove through the ozarks this weekend I was thinking how much I wished I could've gone on that float trip you guys did recently. We're headed back that way in July I hope, maybe we can hook up for a quick paddle trip.” 8:39:44 AM 1/10/05 “garfum holy cow, that is cool!” 8:41:21 AM 1/10/05 “I can\'t wait for summer! I got this hammock... ![]() My weight for shealter, sleeping bag and pack will be right around 4 pounds.” 8:46:05 AM 1/10/05 “wow, its like Christmas in January around here!” 8:48:49 AM 1/10/05 “Hey garfum, how do you stay far enough away from the stove to keep from melting fragile gear? Sounds like a dream tent though. Split that baby between everyone going and 12 pounds isn't bad at all.” 8:50:40 AM 1/10/05 ““Picked up an REI Down time sleeping bag, I wanted to get something that would save some weight compared to my synthetic bag, this one's the same weight but it is rated 5 degrees colder, and it's down so it compacts a hell of a lot smaller, and the real kicker... $129.” Bison 8:15:35 PM 1/09/05 ignore this user I have the womans version of that. I am very happy with it.” 8:52:04 AM 1/10/05 “It has a large footprint (18'x15') so I'll probably stash gear around the perimeter where the headspace is low. The stove is pretty much in the center. We had 50 to 60 mph winds in Casper this weekend too - no problem. I AM GEEKED TO USE THIS TENT!” 9:35:34 AM 1/10/05 “garfum, that is really awesome.” 9:41:47 AM 1/10/05 “Took my Christmas gift cert. and got a sweet Marmot fleece with a cool pocket just inside the zipper. Don't remember the name. Something to do with fire.” 2:19:27 AM 1/11/05 Nigal “What kind of hammock is that?” 2:26:08 AM 1/11/05 “That tipi sounds sick!” 2:27:03 AM 1/11/05 “SnowDude and I ordered Prior Khyber Splitboards so we can do some backcountry boarding. Should be here soon!” 5:19:49 AM 1/11/05 ““What kind of hammock is that?” It's made by Byers of Maine. Campmor carries them in the sleeping>accessaries section. $39.00, 1 pound, has zipper entry, and the stuff sack is sewn to the hammock and acts as a ditty bag hanging on the side.” 8:06:51 AM 1/11/05 “Mountain Hard Wear Phantom jacket, large. I previously bought a used medium one here from DeoreDX, but it was too small for me to layer underneath. Just hope it arrives in time for this weekend's trip. Snowthrower for my tractor, which my wife and I need to pick-up in MI. An 11-hour drive from me one-way. My wife said "lets do a road trip to get it", so I said "sure". Hey, I gotta keep my driveway clear so I can get out to hike, right? So, its on-topic.” 8:16:23 AM 1/11/05 “OMG I just spent entirely too much money on gear LOL! In last two days I purchased: Sierra Designs Lightyear tent Prolite 3/4 length pad Body Armor longsleeve shirt New fleece pullover New shell with fleece lining and hood The shell is a Nike of all things but it looks good and I couldn't pass up the price..$59 after 75% off. Its very light, water resistant, looks warm, has draw strings at hood and waist, velcro draws at wrist. Anyone know if this is a decent shell, cant remember the name of it off hand. I never buy anything for myself, boy did that feel good.” 1:02:39 PM 1/12/05 Sass... “The Witch is Red. Its the only color that it comes in. I can't wait to get her home and get er cleaned up and sand all the outfitter graffitti off of her. Then I'm gonna do my own grafitti. anytime your in the area and want to float in the summer, please give a shout. The gravel bars always open for travelers and Dave and I set a mean table. Your always welcome! The House of Stikmon always has a light on and food in the larder.” 11:25:48 PM 1/12/05 Let me say it again, garfum “It needs its own title. That is the sweetest gear get that I have seen in the last several months. Congrats.” 11:44:03 PM 1/12/05 “Just bought my 2-year old twins backpacks that look like bumble bees. The whole deal. Black and yellow bumble bee stripes, black antennae on the top, and googly eyes. No stingers. erm....no hydration pockets in 'em though.” 12:20:48 AM 1/13/05 “Like, ohmagawd! That's the pack I use! :P” 8:10:34 AM 1/13/05 “lol Nigal. Thanky Stik. We'll have to see what we can manage next time we're going to Pittsburgh, KS. Should be this summer sometime.” 8:15:25 AM 1/13/05 “I can't wait for the big brown truck! I just spent my christmas gift cards on some new gear. Sawvivor Saw MSR Duralight cookset Snow claw shovel Lantern candles And I just ordered a pair of Feathered friends Down Booties. Finally warm feet!” 2:13:40 PM 1/13/05 “I just ordered the new Virga 2 tarptent. It's being shipped to my son's place in Virginia so I can pick it up on my way to the AT.” 5:36:45 PM 1/13/05 “Maybe your Virga 2 will be the first one to make the entire thru hike. To ensure this, if you see faster hikers with Virga 2s on the hike, make sure and burn theirs down.” 5:41:09 PM 1/13/05 “Received my Mountain Hard Wear Phantom last night. I'm going to break it in on the Blair Witch trip this weekend (getting down to 19 Sat. night). Woo-hoo!” 7:41:58 AM 1/14/05 “"Lantern candles" It was funny. I actually got excited about some tea lights I found. They were little citrinila tea lights! I found a box of 10 for a buck at the dollar store. I've had all the lanterns I think. The standard candle lantern, the standard with the oil insert but my favorite is the cheapy tea light. No mess, puts off the same light and it's lighter (I know, it's negligable). I got a small led flashlight that the whole end slides and creats a little lantern. I'm going to try it out this weekend. last edited: 1/14/05 7:56:11 AM” 7:55:01 AM 1/14/05 “Very practical way of seeing it Hubcap. I'm glad you didn't say I should outhike them (might as well stay within the realm of reality, lol).” 7:55:36 AM 1/14/05 “its here it arrived today its set up in my living room! My new 4 season tent - Kelty Radiant 2 I think I like it - looks like it'll ventilate really well with zipperd mesh panels in the roof and zippered vents in the fly roof as well - closeable panels in each end and on each door. Might even get a chance to try it out this weekend!” 8:37:26 PM 1/17/05 “The first time I ever slept in a Kelty I was very impressed. Great little details and fetures like the one way pole sleeves making it real easy to set up, vents everywhere, little windows and nice big vestibules. Two of us slept in it and there was zero condensation. Great choice!” 8:38:30 AM 1/18/05 “Damn, I'm getting gear joneies. I haven't bought any new gear in a couple of weeks....and I DROVE RIGHT PAST B'HAM'S GEAR STORES TWICE this weekend!” 9:18:42 AM 1/18/05 “HPM needs a new pack; he wore out his Kelty, it's shredding at many major seams.” 9:21:12 AM 1/18/05 “thats impressive to have worn out a pack! My solo tent is a Kelty too - the Kelty Coffin, er, I mean Clark, tent - i've been really pleased with its performance in wind and rain, but there is NO WAY two peeps would get in there. My new one is a virtual bombshelter compared to the Clark.” 10:43:16 AM 1/18/05 “I love my Kelty Vortex. It came highly recommended by alot of TTers and I am so glad I listened and bought it. Congrats on your new tent Roam. =)” 11:29:46 AM 1/18/05 “ ![]() Just picked this guy up. It's the deal of the week on REI Outlet.com. $75!” 1:58:58 PM 1/18/05 “Does this count as another pack for me? If so this would make it 6 packs total. last edited: 1/18/05 2:00:02 PM” 1:59:49 PM 1/18/05 “I think so. I had a much simpler one, basically just a carrier with no packing capability, when my oldest was little. One day when she was very young, a month or two? (can't remember) I decided to try it out. I put her in it and took a walk around the neighborhood. Unfortunately, she wasn't quite strong enough to hold up her head yet, and so her head sagged down to the side. Fortunately I noticed this before I had gone far, and I took her home. So, unless it's got some sort of neck support for very little ones, you may have to wait a bit before using it.” 2:03:43 PM 1/18/05 “Yea, Barbie has already warned me about that.” 2:12:22 PM 1/18/05 “Email tells me my Black Diamond Contact Strap Crampons will be delivered by Friday. Big Smiles here!” 2:23:23 PM 1/18/05 “Whoo Hoo, I just picked up the Marrmot PreCip jacket as well. Had a $50 gift card burning a hole in my pocket.” 2:36:29 PM 1/18/05 “Cool Tara, you will get a chance to try them out at FYAO i am sure. I just got my new Freathered Friends down Booties, as a matter of fact I am wearing them right now. they are da bomb. Epic waterproof outer shell and an 800 fil down inner bootie that you can wear in your sleeping bag. Also just got my Sawvivor pocket saw. Can't wait to try them out this weekend.” 6:42:16 PM 1/18/05 “Not a big purchase but I picked up a pair of wool mittens today form the local Army & Navy store. Not only did I get them from a local shop, they were only $12, and the best part was when I looked at the label they were made in a city only 30 miles away. Who says you can’t buy American gear anymore?” 6:39:43 PM 1/21/05 Jump to Page << prev
