And if I was still in college I would have passed on the sale and just brave the wilderness with my Wal-mart spray that is 4 years old.” 11:47:28 PM 5/10/05 “how do you like the nightray? I am thinking of having rei exchange my again failing Moonlight (which I otherwise love) for a nightray for that extra focused eye in the middle. You like it?” 12:34:00 AM 5/11/05 “I'll let you know when I get it, just ordered it yesterday, will take a week to get here!” 8:58:05 AM 5/11/05 “Dub, did you lay in the Hubba? It looks awful narrow.” 9:00:35 AM 5/11/05 “Anyone ever consider selling their batray? (EWKER) Someone I hiked with last weekend expressed interest in getting one....” 9:06:37 AM 5/11/05 “http://www.brmsstore.com/php-bin/ecomm4/brmsProducts.php?category_id=282&product_id=1544&prev_id=&next_id=1308 Batray 4 on clearance for 100.00” 9:08:32 AM 5/11/05 “Only problem with the Batray is it requires 4 acres of flat ground to set it up! ;-)” 9:11:01 AM 5/11/05 “hey SS....while you are here...what would you recomend of a 6 month long hike? a home made alcohol stove or a manufactured white gas stove?” 9:12:25 AM 5/11/05 “Yeah, I did lay in the Hubba which ultimately helped me decide on buying it. It is narrow, but I had plenty of clearance for my shoulders and arms. I have an SD Ultralight year....it's probably the tiniest tent I've ever slept in. I bought this one for 1. size 2. headroom 3. weight I just wanted a small freestanding lightweight one person tent with some headroom--no headroom in the ULyear. I think I'll like this one a lot.” 9:15:29 AM 5/11/05 “Pfffttt! The nice grizzly just wanted to play with you ;-P Your scared of bears? Spend the money on a bear canister and sleep X/C instead. I carry pepper spray for the 2 legged variety of beast and for dogs.....I quess I am odd, I have almost no fear of bears. So where are you heading for hiking this year? :-)” 9:15:45 AM 5/11/05 “I have no feer of beers either :D” 9:16:44 AM 5/11/05 “I do if it is a bad beer........or warm.... :-P” 9:18:19 AM 5/11/05 ““hey SS....while you are here...what would you recomend of a 6 month long hike? a home made alcohol stove or a manufactured white gas stove?” Spirit Coyote 9:12:25 AM For two people hiking as a couple, I would use white gas.” 9:27:08 AM 5/11/05 “I'm not afraid of black bears, growing up in WV we have plenty of them and I've even hunted them. However, griz's on the other hand, I have no real experience with them. And until I saw one at close range in the backcountry I wasn't afraid of them until I saw how big it was when it was standing on its hind legs--WOW! I guess I respect them more than I fear them, otherwise I wouldn't be headed back into their territory! I'm just taking the counter assault with me this time to make me feel a lil safer until I have more experience in griz territory--it's only my 2nd trip into their domain. And we're headed back to Yellowstone. I love that place. Still gonna try to make it to the PNW this year, possibly this fall.” 9:29:46 AM 5/11/05 “Well let me know if you get out here....it is so dry this year that we are already hiking in subalpine in May....it may be a very dry year in the fall :-(” 9:33:05 AM 5/11/05 “....it's probably the tiniest tent I've ever slept in. Dub 9:15:29 AM 5/11/05 you ever slept in the Eureka Gossamer..it is like a coffin, 28" OAH, 32"OAW, very confining.” 9:43:46 AM 5/11/05 “I had the Solitare and they suck big time. and gawd help ya if it rains!” 9:45:43 AM 5/11/05 “i guess i'm a real wussey. i'm scared of bears. black ones, gizzly ones, polar ones. whatever. i still think they're beautiful and i'm not gonna stop heading out in the woods, but i admitt i don't like to see them up too close.” 9:51:16 AM 5/11/05 “The lightyear reminded me of being in a bivy that was a lil higher at the head and had a small vestibule you could put boots in.” 10:52:41 AM 5/11/05 “I like my lightyear okay and I'm claustrophobic.” 11:11:13 AM 5/11/05 “Picked up a sexy as he11 mini skirt today! Here it is! ![]() It's a Wilderness Systems Mini Spray Skirt for my new WS Tempest 170 kayak for use in hot weather to keep the sun off my knees and drips away. Also got a new paddle, an Aqua Bound StingRay carbon shaft white blade, and a new travel cover for the cockpit.” 7:40:03 PM 5/14/05 “hahhahahahaha Stovey wears a mini skirt!” 1:16:36 AM 5/15/05 “Hey, I followed everyone's advise and finally brought my melted trail gaiters back to REI -- and they returned them!!! :-) The clerk asked me what was wrong with them, and I told him that "they didn't hold up well to heat"... LOL (2 melted holes on the back...! So, he credited $15 back to me! :-) (they were on sale when I got them in September!) I also went and got the National Geographic Topo maps for Michigan (25% off sale), the Garmin Topo road maps for our GPS (20% off Member's "coupon"), some Tech wash and repellent for our hiking boots and rainwear, and a holder for our GPS Unit.... All-in-all, with the sale and my dividend, we made out like bandits!! We got everything for about 40% off of the original price... :-) (Woo hoo!!) REI is incredible-- they told us that if the Garmin software didn't work on our computer that we could even return it! (I was quite shocked--most places won't allow you to return software!) At least we know that we won't get stuck with it if it doesn't work!” 2:10:56 AM 5/15/05 “I love new gear, unfortunately everthing I've bought within the last few weeks has been for the family. Wife got a pair of Asolo boots, and a Thermarest Prolite Pad, Girl #1 got the Morning Star 55 pack, Girl #2 got clothing, Girl #3 a new sleeping bag. I've dropped close to $500 at REI's sale and I personally have nothing to show for it. Not fair!!!!” 8:49:58 AM 5/15/05 “I got 3 new rubbermaid tubs today, not really exciting but much needed. Sounds like some good deals Pink!” 8:54:25 AM 5/15/05 whoo hooo...bring on ups “new dry bags for the kayak and some integral design shortie gaiters..LOVE THOSE GAITERS!!!!” 9:53:16 AM 5/18/05 “Finally got my bear canister last night. A BearVault BV250 Solo. Its dimensions are 8.7” dia x 8”h, and it weighs 1lb 14oz. http://www.bearvault.com/bearvault_details.php” 2:21:16 PM 5/18/05 “where'd you get the solo from zac?” 2:23:41 PM 5/18/05 “I got it from Northern Mountain Supply http://www.northernmountain.com/NMSMain.asp?Option=Detail&ID=BEARVABearVaultBV250&Dept=KC&Cat=KCD&SubCat=KCD0” 2:27:17 PM 5/18/05 “ ”5:54:40 PM 5/19/05 “that Mr. Stomper..is one sweet looking ride. When is her maiden voyage? Do not forget to name her..bad juju man, bad juju...” 6:01:20 PM 5/19/05 “ ”8:50:06 AM 5/20/05 “woo hoo, picked up this little baby, as it's been a long time since I ought any gear. Looking pretty good to me, although I now have a circle burned into my retina. ”10:25:01 AM 5/24/05 “brite lite! brite lite!!! i looked at those too, but i didn't like the battery pack on the back of my head.” 11:59:29 AM 5/24/05 “you may wanna wait on this baby then Roam ”12:02:48 PM 5/24/05 “ ”3:03:06 PM 5/24/05 “Won't that be a little heavy carrying on you back? 8D” 3:06:06 PM 5/24/05 “Y2 that's the one we looked at a couple month ago right? Yupp, that's the one I want...just remember my birthday is June 2nd... heeheehee” 3:06:23 PM 5/24/05 “uh huh Gem, you'll just have to be a very very good girl until then ;o)” 3:22:23 PM 5/24/05 “lumberzac, thats why its got wheels, so i can just pull it along behind me. :) last edited: 5/24/05 3:24:56 PM” 3:22:42 PM 5/24/05 “Looks like gemn's gonna spend her birthday in the dark! ;o)” 4:31:56 PM 5/24/05 “Alright newbies, for future reference, this is the official new gear thread.” 11:14:19 AM 6/01/05 “TT nanny! ;-)” 11:14:46 AM 6/01/05 “Hey, you were the first one to call the newbie out!” 11:15:12 AM 6/01/05 “Just trying to save Ewker the trouble. ;-)” 11:15:33 AM 6/01/05 “Waldies. Looking for a fly swatter.” 11:29:36 AM 6/01/05 “Waldies ARE a flyswatter amoung other things” 12:34:14 PM 6/01/05 Waldies “I got my cheapa$$ knockoffs a couple of weeks ago. ;-)” 12:36:09 PM 6/01/05 “Got my REI Sub Kilo 0° bag (or whatever the hell it's called) yesterday. I had ordered it online and had it delivered to the store. Tried it out on the living room floor - seems pretty comfy. It comes with a compression-type stuff sack. Kinda looks like a rugby ball when you strap it down.” 8:53:50 AM 6/02/05 “Woo Hoo! I guess.... I got a pair of Lowa renegade gtx II's back around christmas I think. I didn't wear them very often. I got the left boot stretched a little bit width wise back in early March for my Smokies trip, and on day 3 the leather panel along the outside of the left boot split wide open right in the middle, not along a seam. So back to the gear store they went, with assurances they'd let me know asap what awas going on. Nothing for two months. THen I went back this weekend with HPM (he also had gear return problems there) and they said "Oh, we just recieved notification that they ot the boots back to the factory." Freaking lovely. How long will I not have boots? Then monday morning I get a call from the gear store again. "there was some confusion about your returns, becaus they were men's boots(wider). They've been here buried in the storeroom for over a month." ~sigh~ At least I have boots again, and there's nothing like having to break in hiking boots in hot weather. Bleah.” 9:17:59 AM 6/08/05 Jump to Page << prev
