“My favorite pants for the past three years has been a pair of Eco pants. Winter or summer. The only enemy is hot sparks from campfires. But, then all materials seem to have that problem.

Cool loose fit with great leg ventilation. Full length side zip with mesh.
Block the wind well in winter when zipped. Generous fit for insulating undergarment wear in winter.

“so dudes, i'm thinking of getting a smallish Camelbak pack. we have one already that's really small, meant to be used while biking. i'm thinking that i could get a slightly bigger one, and use it as a daypack sometimes, and sometimes i could take the water-holder part out and use it as just a regular bag! it would be the perfect size for taking to work and whatnot...lunch, purse, book, etc. would that be totally dorky? i've been looking for a neat bag for awhile (i'm really picky), and haven't found anything i really like. and Camelbaks are so well-made and all...c'mon, help me talk myself into getting one! LOL!”

“I love my Camelbak for mountain biking, but I use a Platypus hydration system in the top lid of my pack for backpacking. I did put a Camelbak bite valve on the end of the hose...the Platypus one kept leaking.”

wow, There's TONS of hydration packs to choose from. You can get a small one just for Summer... or... something slightly bigger and be set for the colder months, too...

I've recently heard people on this site grumbling about the camelbak hydration systems themselves (i'm a Platypus Man, m'self <aHem>).

I don't know who has a good selection these days. I just checked Mountain Gear and they've only got a few "hydration packs" and what they're calling "Technical Daypacks" are 3000+ cubic inch backpacks costing $150 and up.

This Saloman Aquastream looks pretty zippy, but I don't know what kind of rep they have for this sort of thing. I've just heard of their boots, but I guess they're branching out.

The Black Diamond Zippo is a somewhat larger and has a few more doodads. Their reputation for quality is solid.

Looks like Platypus is going into the pack market, too....

“I have the same problem. My 25° syn bag is just so good. But, I really want a teeny tiny down one. I also want Birch to have one, with a zipper opposite side of mine. So, the cost is x2. =( I think we'll be using our very nice, used from Tekapo, TNF Minarettes for awhile longer.”

“Good luck with that Tilt! I think all summer down bags nowadays have a 2/3's zip. I don't like it either, but found when I climbed in it wasn't so bad.

My latest fruitless search is trying to find nylon pants in size 3T. They don't have to be "technical" just the right fabric. All I can find are technical and cost $38. I did find some nice shorts though. "Cat in the Hat" and hand me downs!”
