Yep, that is the cover I got, on your reccomendation of course.

I was thinking about the new knees yesterday. You know that the first trip I got a chance to use them on was the Mammoth Cave trip last year? Bwahahahahaha, right!

I wore it on the last hike down to Savage Gulf as well. I think I sacred the hell out of a family out for a dayhike as I climbed out of the gulf. They seemed lost, but did not want to ask me for directions.

LOL..WK remember the Star Trek movie (the Voyage Home) when Chekov walks up to the police officer in San Francisco and in a russian accent says,"Ecuse me, VER are de Nuclear Nawal Wessels."

years ago I got on an elevator in Washinton, we are riding to an upper floor and I looked at the Major I was up there with and asked a question...he looked at me as the door shut (and the previous passengers got off) and said, 'Shut up fool remember English at all times."

LOL there were MP's waiting for us at the next floor.

i got a patigonia fleece thing on closeout at rei today. it has that whole thumb-whole thing in the sleeve that rocks a little bit. it's a wind resistant layer, good for next-to-base and an insulation layer rides nicely on it. it just might become a regular piece of my trail wear in colder weather... only time will tell.

Awesome get! Congrats on the 'Berg!

Take it somewhere where you get a chitload of snow. BPL says it doesn't take a snow load well. Everyone I talked to says it does fine. I'd like to know.

Bought a Rattan pole or staff in a Martial Arts Supply Store. It is 5 to 6 feet long, lightweight, strong and very pretty. I plan to use it as a hiking stick.

Just added some rubber cups on the ends of my new hiking stick. Got them at Ace Hardware.

Also, bought a new mouse, an Optical Scroll Mouse. It's a great improvement in control. Selected it from many at CompUSA.

Winter Upgrading Time
So I let myself loose on Campmor this afternoon, and $200 later, I'm now the proud owner of a brand spanking new synthetic winter sleeping bag, down booties, ski/snowshoe pants, fleece jacket, and spare sets of assorted base layer stuff -- FYAO, here I come!

Great success! High five! Nice...

I got a Royal Robbins pullover fleece, my first Royal Robbins stuff. It's pretty nice, so far it doesn't seem to pill up, although I haven't washed it enough times to make a final call on that aspect.

I can lean on the back stairs to hitch into my light touring skis and just ski away - until last year (no snow).

My AT skis are an old (1970's) pair of downhill skis that I put Silvretta 500's on. The skis have minimal side cut and track beautifully, but they're heavy. As there was no snow anywhere round me I thought of going to an alpine ski centre that makes snow near me (Mount Titus, near Malone, NY), but I was broke and a little shy to turn up with the old skis.

Well, after goose hunting Saturday morning I drove into Montreal for our Rugby Referees' AGM and got my cheque for last season.

Sunday after goose hunting I drove to MEC in Montreal. They have Hagan freeride skis for a little over Cdn200$. Well they're really just downhill skis for people who like to climb up with skins. The only skis that had a kicker wax pocket (e.g. stiff enough) and no scales were G3 Barons at Cdn610$ (ouch).

And so I blew the whole cheque in one shot. Happy Chrstmas to me.

The price is fair as they are listed at US598$ in last year's Marmot catalogue.

They're putting the Silvrettas on now and I'll pick them up next week-end.

THE HAUL

REI in Dallas...and Plano

My Son finally got into the act, got the Gregory Z Pack (he loves it) he is trying to decide on a stove (uses the Camping Gaz Turbo 270 right now) he scored some zip off pants, and a couple of fleece camping shirts.

I bought one of them there long handled Titanium Spoons, a nice compression stuff bag, some new nalgene containers....etc etc

Then we found some TNF fleece jackets (reg $79) on sale for $29.00...got two of those.

He is discussing some other THINGS... since December will be slow we may take a weekend and spend it on a trail together somewhere just bumming.

This is fun!
One of my buddies is going to China next April. I asked him to pick my up a Chicom military winter hat. It's like the one up page, but incredibly uglier. It's so ugly it's beautiful - he brought one back for his brother and I fell in love with it.

MEC called yesterday evening; my Silvretta 500's are on my G3 Barons. I don't have last period to-morrow and I'll pick them up then (can't wait to the week-end). Snow or no snow I'll be ski-ing this winter.

Two Christmas presents down (my daughter's and mine) and one to go (for my son).

I paid more than I planned, but I explained to the kid at MEC that the advantage to being divorced and the kids grown up is that I can do as I please.

He replied that his dad says the same thing.

BTW, it sounds like the Garmin rocks.

almost. It is a Mid length cav-15 its a ultra light weight polymer lower with a 16" barrel and mid length handguards and mid length gas system... for comparison, photographed below is a standard bushmaster m4 type rifle.. even with 14.5" barrel(perm ak brake to make lenght) I love both of those rifles.
