What did you buy me John?

CD's will be in the mail tomorrow. I have included the following (Stovestomper is getting the same):

Wilco - Being There 1 and 2
Son Volt - A Respospective - 1995 to 2000

Both bands were once Uncle Tupelo. After their fourth albumn, they split and formed the bands mentioned above. I will also get you Wilco's first CD - AM.

You should like this stuff.

Turns out they're pretty fitted. I don't like chafing.

The weird thing is that the bag they came in happened to be zip locked. What, am I supposed to store them in the duofold bag? Fat chance.

Finally finished buying stuff on the umpteen eleventy bucks of REI gift cards I got for birthday and Christmas. Here's what I got:

- REI MTS long underwear bottoms - one lightweight, one mid-weight
- Bike shorts
- New pump for Whisperlite
- REI Glove-Mitten combo (you can fold back the mitten part to expose your fingers to do stuff)
- New wind-stopper-type gloves
- Sock liners (trying a new sock system to avoid blisters)
- Maybe one or two other things that I forgot

Congrats on the new upgrades. Keep that economy rolling!

Personally, all of my newest gear purchases worked like a charm this past weekend.

Insulmat thermo max sleeping pad from STP - $32.95

You'll like it, AmyG. This is the one that tapers down toward the feet? Took me a couple of nights to get used to that, but loved it after I adjusted.

Good deals, AmyG.

I just gave my InsulMat to a friend; hated to part with it, but the replacement mat is top notch (and I got it for only 20 bucks).

Stovey - yeah, it's the tapered one. I read every gear review I could find on it and everyone raved about how comfy it is...
I am a side sleeper and this is supposed to be the shiznit! I plan on teaming it up with a closed cell base for FYAO.

Yes, I would add a closed cell for frigid temps. At around freezing, I felt a few cool spots under me. I'm a side sleeper too.

i sleep on my side and i think that most of the comfort comes from having ones head properly elevated. stovestopmers "water wing" pillow thing has saved my life in this regard... i owe him a beer or two for that one! :)

Alabama Outdoors is clearancing gear. I'm fighting the temptation to pick up a Granite Gear Vapor Trail for $105. All GG and Mtn Hardwear 30% off. Most other stuff is 20% off. I've been such a gear whore lately that I'm trying to stay away from the store.

I just scored a Patagonia Micro Puff pullover from Blue Ridge Mtn. Sports. It was listed at $147.95, but they have their annual Avalanche Sale going on today and Sunday, so I got it for 40% off! $98 plus change!!! I was looking for a stuff sack for it and after I got home I found the included stuff sack in the pocket. It may get cold enough tomorrow to try it out.

I've got soft shell fever
I picked up another softshell last week.

It's a Spyder Telluride.
http://www.spyder.com/productdetail.asp?productid=101741

I got it on sell for $85. Regular price was $175. I've always thought of Spyder as a ski brand, but I picked this jacket up off the rack out of curiousity and liked it right away. When I looked at the price tag the deal was sealed.

Picked up an Insul Mat Max-Thermo sleeping pad from REI for $25.00. I’ve never used an inflatable before I have always been a closed cell foam pad guy. It arrived yesterday so of course I had to try it out. I slept on it with a sleeping bag on the family room floor last night and I had a great nights sleep, very comfortable and yes my wife thinks I'm nuts. I’m a side sleeper and continuously switch from side to side and I never fell off the pad in all my tossing and turning. I can’t wait to field test it, hopefully next weekend.

I just scored a Mountainsmith Ultra 35 degree bag on the REI sale on Friday. I also got a pair of the Buzz-off zip off pants. They were about $25 apiece. I saved over $100 on the bag. BTW they were both online deals on REI Outlet.

I had to mail order mountaineering boots from REI cause nobody within several hundred miles has any. The UPS guy tossed the box in the driveway today. They are stiff and light and fit great.

I also tried walking around the neighborhood in my new down jacket this morning because it was actually below freezing. That sucker is too warm for any physical activity! It will be great for cold evening and windy lunch stops.

I've been keeping a lookout for a new family tent. I was in Academy Sports over the weekend and they had a 12x10 Coleman marked down to $59.88. It said clearance. Next to it was a sign that said if the price ended in 88 that you got an extra 20% off. I wound up getting about a $90 tent for $48. This should be just the ticket for our next Smokies family trip.

It has a flap that can seperate it into 2 areas. We were tight in the 8x8 we had with 2 kids. The new one along with pack and play and the like will have us needing more room. Can't wait to hit the Smokies this summer. I've just got to find a time when we can go.

you WK? don't think you'd fit my boots, hat and gloves. it's a real purty hat though, with a tassle! (say clearence hat) it even matches the down jacket i bought on clearence several weeks ago. the boots are asolo. i noticed the prices on boots dropped. anyone here working for REI? i also bought that National Geographic Topo Map Maker Software, some dinners for the weekend, a little fuel. it was a wonderful shopping trip, i had soooo much fun. but i was a frugal gal, i put a lot of stuff into my cart, and at the end, put about half of it back, keeping only what i really needed. and yes, i did need a new hat, the fleece one that i had shrunk and was hurting my ears.
