No unfortunately, but they are waterproof and comfortable...” 1:02:59 PM 12/19/07 4:15:51 PM 12/22/07 “Looks prety sweet, but it's their lightest at almost 6 pounds, and the price! Shoooowee! I gotta say though, I would have been damn glad to have had it on my last trip.” 4:27:28 PM 12/22/07 “hoop designs tend to flatten in winds that run against the axis of the tent. this is why they say "ideal for trips where light weight is a higher priority than total strength". it's a nice tent. i have two hilleberg aktos and i love them both.” 4:53:01 PM 12/22/07 “Wouldnt that be a beech, to have to keep getting up to turn your tent as the wind shifts? I never thought of that.” 4:56:36 PM 12/22/07 “Looks prety sweet, but it's their lightest at almost 6 pounds, and the price! Shoooowee! I gotta say though, I would have been damn glad to have had it on my last trip.” meangreen 5:27:28 PM 12/22/07 Thanks mean, As for the weight, its not that bad, when you consider its a 4 season tent, that I will use primarily in winter and haul with a sled. I'll probably use it, for when I take the dog, and use just the outer tent.(floor-less) I sold my other Hilleberg tent, so I had almost 1/2 the price of the new tent covered. This is the only way, I would buy something this pricey, makes it easier explaining it to the old lady too? Did the same thing when I bought the WM Versalite bag. I Sold my old WM Puma, and used the money for the new bag, had 2/3 of the price of the new bag covered, from that sale. Yes, you can now crown me the new gear whore. You may now kneel before me, naves! last edited: 12/22/07 5:03:53 PM” 4:59:15 PM 12/22/07 “hoop designs tend to flatten in winds that run against the axis of the tent. this is why they say "ideal for trips where light weight is a higher priority than total strength". it's a nice tent. i have two hilleberg aktos and i love them both.” Jimmy san 5:53:01 PM 12/22/07 Yep, I'm aware of these facts, but don't intend to use it for mountaineering or anywhere up high and exposed. All 3 pole sleeves have guy-out points, one on each side totaling 6. So, if you get into some heavier winds, then it would need to be tied out, at all these points, which actually total around 10, I believe?” 5:14:48 PM 12/22/07 “for all you dorks starting "new gear" threads WE'VE ALREADY GOT ABOUT 200 OF THEM!” 7:13:21 PM 12/30/07 “I'm not sure just how much I will be using it on the trail. But my son got hisself a new iPod and gave me his old one. I know lots of peeps carry them but I don't know if I will or not. Battery may be getting worn out and I don't know how anyone would recharge them in the woods anyway. But we'll see.” 10:33:06 AM 1/02/08 “I think they make solar chargers for these.” 10:56:14 AM 1/02/08 “If I take another long hike (more than 5 days) I want an I pod with a book on it. The hardest part of the last long solo hike I took was the solitude at night.” 11:07:22 AM 1/02/08 “it's hard to beat the new gen iPod nano for entertainment to weight ratio. the video is really, really nice and so you get that as well as audiobooks and music/videos. i love mine. my daughter and wife have the new iTouch and it is cooler than cat crap.” 4:40:06 PM 1/02/08 “I don't think I could stand to read on this model. I have a hard enuf time reading books on my Palm Pilot” 4:45:09 PM 1/02/08 “a narrator reads the books to you... books on tape type of thing. go to audible.com to get them or itunes. lots of good books... i like the unabridged ones... i crank through 2-3 per month... listen to them when i run” 4:51:45 PM 1/02/08 “The Lord of the Rings unabridged books on tape are unbelievable.” 5:01:34 PM 1/02/08 “hey i never thought of trying that. i didn't know that had released the books so soon after the movies came out on dvd!” 6:14:40 PM 1/02/08 “The Lord of the Rings books have been in print since the 50's. You'd need a good narrator to ahndle all the elven songs and poems and such tho.” 6:22:50 PM 1/02/08 “no, no. different books. i saw the movies and they were amazing. peter jackson really knows how to tell a story.” 6:34:58 PM 1/02/08 “I have a Creative Zen Stone and only 38.00 for it. I love this thing. It's one of the smallest.1GB” 6:43:56 PM 1/02/08 “You'd need a good narrator to ahndle all the elven songs and poems and such tho. That's what made them so great. The narrator had the perfect English voice and he sang all the songs and recited all the poems perfectly.” 6:51:18 PM 1/02/08 “got my new trail runners today...the Vasque Blur. Went with the Gortex only because they didn't have the "regular" blur. Still seems crazy to me...step in water deep enough and its gonna go over and into the shoe NO matter HOW MUCH gortex. Oh well...my last pair (Vasque Velocity) wouldn't have passed inspection at the Shell station....so yippeee..let there be tread! http://gearflogger.typepad.com/weblog/2006/10/vasque_blur_xcr.html OH YEA it didn't dawn on me today..but talked to the REI rep today to see if they would still take a return on my boots since I can't use them now..and they said yes. So one day i'll ride back up to REI and get a store credit for those. I even told them it wasn't the boots fault its my body's/knees fault...they didn't mind..said "bring em on back". REI Membership is really nice..highly recommend it.” 3:47:19 PM 1/25/08 “I long for a real gear store... Congrats on the new go-fasters too!” 3:51:43 PM 1/25/08 “no REI?” 3:52:28 PM 1/25/08 “not only is there no REI, I have to drive 70mi one way just to get to a gander mountain. Folks here go to Tractor Supply when they need outdoor gear.” 4:03:14 PM 1/25/08 “Sounds like up here. There is sort of an outfitter 85 miles south. Thank God for the internet.” 4:10:39 PM 1/25/08 “two hour to REI for me, thats the closest....Gander Mountain about the same distance....” 4:40:52 PM 1/25/08 “i have two REI within about a 20 minute drive. :-p but when i lived in hell, i mean Florida, it was way worse than that. I think the closest REI was in Atlanta about 12 hours away!” 4:49:44 PM 1/25/08 “i can't remember, did i happen to mention yet, that i bought my first piece of climbing equipment on friday night? MadRock climbing shoes! oh and a pair of gloves, they're a pair of bike gloves with the fingertips cut off, but they are small/light enough for me and they work great for climbing/belaying; better than those climbing gloves i saw.” 1:17:23 PM 1/28/08 “Kahtoola Microspikes. Tried them out this past weekend in crunchy snow and on icy trails. Worked like a charm. LOVE THEM.” 1:42:41 PM 1/28/08 “SPS- How easy are they to take on and off your boots? I thought about ordering some for the Mt. Rogers trip although I hope they aren't needed.” 1:45:11 PM 1/28/08 Mocs “I needed them this past weekend on Mt. Rogers. (I tend to slide around a lot in snow anyway though) but there were several places on the trail that were quite icy. Once you look at the picture and see the labels on the microspikes, I find them QUITE easy to put on and off your boots. Its very simple and totally worth the money.” 1:49:09 PM 1/28/08 “Atlanta (closest REI) 2.5 hours away...gotta plan if you want to go.” 1:49:34 PM 1/28/08 “Oh yeah, another cool purchase. Bought Asolo's Voyagers. They actually don't hurt my feet! I didn't realize hiking shoes could be....comfortable. lol.” 1:58:07 PM 1/28/08 “just got my new whisperlite international and am about to buy a REI mountain 2 tent..” 2:33:32 PM 1/28/08 “Fisher (189cm) Rebound Crown skis (arrived today) and Alpina 2050 BC Boots.” 3:17:06 PM 1/28/08 “Gander Mountain, Dick's, Tractor Supply, -1 hr (Plattsburg, NY). MEC (the Canadian REI) -1 hr (Montreal).” 9:05:30 AM 1/29/08 “got my climbing harness last night WAHOOOOOOOOO!!! also two screwlock beaners, a high friction belay device and a couple of slings. i am so danged excited i wish i were climbing right freaking now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)” 10:25:13 AM 1/29/08 “I haven't purchased any new gear in a while. I miss gear shopping but I sure do enjoy already having more crap than I need! Ice Climbing gear is next on my list once the finances allow it.” 10:36:17 AM 1/29/08 Tax Refund Check “What to buy? What to Buy??” 10:37:58 AM 1/29/08 new pack “just got my first pack a jansport carson. looking forward to hitting the trails” 6:32:01 PM 1/29/08 “OK. Who's gonna get this. http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/28/the-torch-why-illuminate-when-you-can-incinerate/” 9:36:34 PM 1/29/08 “I would hate to be carrying that thing in my pocket and have it come on by accident.” 10:16:37 PM 1/29/08 “that's nothing compared to tiki torches. They can do all that and they last longer than 15 minutes.” 10:17:58 PM 1/29/08 “Well I was issued some expedition weight Patagonia capilene a month or so ago and it has been worth its weight in gold the past couple of weeks. I'm starting to feel like a walking Patagonia ad. these days, but it's just damn good stuff. Also had some Asolo Flame GTX boots issued, and they're pretty good, but I'm having some kind of issue with my right Achilles tendon and it flares up when I wear the Asolos. In fairness though, it hurts with almost any boot I wear right now except a pair of old Haix boots I have. Even my trusty old Montrails aggravate it. Doesn't hurt with running shoes though, thankfully.” 5:40:36 PM 1/30/08 “I HAVE A LITTLE HANDHELD COFFEE MAKER! WOOT!!!” 5:45:26 PM 1/30/08 “well my climbing shoes wore through to the rand and i sent them off to be resoled... and of COURSE i was a good guy and gave this guy at the gym my other pair of shoes that i didn't use anymore. so now i am shoeless. i'll have to either use the gyms shoes or buy another pair of cheap-ass shoes. grrrrrr. i want my shoes back! still, i know they will come back with lots of new rubber so it will be worth the wait. i can't believe they are spent already!” 7:22:59 PM 2/01/08 “Yup. Patagonia is the best gear out there.” 7:58:14 AM 2/02/08 “i think i'm addicted to buying gear! i just picked up a new compass, mt. rogers map, new nalgene, whisperlite international maintenance kit, rei camelback pack, compression sack for my bag, and a new cookware set (msr blacklite aluminum set) all for $130!... not too shabby” 10:07:34 AM 2/04/08 “Lessee, winter campout this weekend. Been meaning to pick up a collapsable snow shovel (metal blade only) for a while and scored a Backcountry Access EXT shovel with a extendable shaft so you don't have to break your back scooping snow. Also will accomodate an avalanche probe in the handle. ON SALE, $30 instead of the usual $45. Lost one of my freakin' overmits the other week and so had to pick up a new pair. It was a hard choice but I ended up going with the OR Snowline Mitt. Their W/B equivaent and fleece lined. Got 'em big enough so I can add another liner if need be (I like fingerless). All set for 15 degrees and fresh powdah this weekend! Woo hoo!!” 2:05:08 PM 2/05/08 “Good on ya!” 2:41:01 PM 2/05/08 Jump to Page << prev
