I had to stop visiting, so I could get some sleep, you lot dont play in normal hours (for me).

Anybody else got a Petzl MYO 5?

I'd love to swap info. The one I got is a prototype.

Well I guess I will brag about my new gear.
Walrus Trekker Tarp for $49 couldn't pass up the deal. It is alittle heavy for a one man tarp but the room and vesitlity are incredible. It will definately be the tarp that i bring if I am expexting nasty weather.

I haven't seen that one, Bunyip... Sounds kind of like a Black Diamond Gemini.

Oh, here's the MYO 5. A xenon bulb and 5 LEDs with 3 power settings, cool... So you're saying that the LEDs could be brighter?

(you still talk kinda funny...)

Is this headlamp better that the Duo? I got the Duo just after it came out years ago and upgraded to the LED attachment about 1 year ago. I love it.

I mean, I would like to have a more dedicated on/off between the led and halogen modes. You rotate the reflector assembly to switch between the leds and the halogen. (I would like to hear a good click between modes).

It's heaps lighter than the Duo. The reflector is better and gives a more even coverage. The leds sit in a type of "chin" arrangement to the reflector so the unit is not as bulky. It also has a much easier battery compartment to access (although it took a few goes to figure it out).

Stone the flamin crows mate! Yous reckon I talk funny. Well I hope ya chooks turn into Emus and kick ya dunny down!

By the way no one really speaks like that over here, only Steve Irwin and I reckon even he is putting it on.

a-Ha... good info. My Petzl Mini is starting to show its age so I'm keeping my eyes open for an eventual replacement. I have a Princeton Tec Aurora and a Petzl Arctic for 'light' and 'heavy duty' applications.

I gave up the "penlight held in the teeth" routine years ago. Besides, I have a tendency to drool.

Steve Erwin --- HA! It's pretty surprising that guy has all his fingers, LOL

My new Western Mountaineering Ultralight sleeping bag finially came. It's a beauty at 1# 10 oz. WM rated at 20 degrees. Ordered from backcountrygear.com.
Very tight bag, but that's what I wanted. It's to replace a REI SubKilo (rated 20 degrees) that I was cold in at 32 degrees.

Also go a couple of AntiGravityGear 3 cup cookpots. Very light, cheap. Works well with my windscreen/potstands.

Yah, everybody here are real he-men (even the women) and they all carry giant packs filled with cast-iron cookware, lol....

Hey, I had my packweight down to 22lbs with food and without water for my last trip! Not too shabby.

Thanks for the link Stovestomper...I have a 3 cup titanium pot with fold out handle. I don't like having the handle attached...it gets a little warm when you're trying to hold on to it and eat outta the pot!! You wouldn't think that the handle gets warm but the dang thing does.

We have had the ultralight sleeping bags for a couple of years now--they are nice and holding up just fine--no special care. Find a bigger stuff sack so you don't squash it too much like we did. Mary

i just got my Ursack Major today! not approved in some areas of the Sierra Nevada, but still very nice to have for critter-infested areas and some parts of bear country. at 7 ounces, that's a heckuva lot lighter than my 2 pound 5.5 ounce bear canister!

i normally dont have a hard-on for gear, but......
just got the msr miniworks EX. much faster than the old model. and its red! (for all you red lovers) i guess this is the one good thing that came out of my gear being stolen by stupid scruples-barren white trash kentucks.

just got a famous trademarkd stovestomper pepsi can stove. cant wait to try it out.

20 percent off all internal frame packs at the galyans in my town. may be taking advantage

I just got the MSR Trekker Tarp Mesh Insert to use with a silnylon tarp. Much cooler in the summer than a tent, and quite a bit lighter than my two-man tent. My husband wants more cool breezes. We went backpacking with RichB who uses one, and we felt that this was a good compromise for bug protection, roominess and ventilation.

kick A$$
Im in the market for a pack myself. a nice light one. I read a few times about tinman's soda can stoves . do you have to buy them or does someone know where I can get the recipe for engineering to make one myself. My friend on the trail said its hard to explain but tinman himself showed him how.

Taurus2, The 4000 cu.in. model ALPS Mt. Hood is almost a pound heavier than the one I ordered...I was looking for a lighter weight pack around 4000 cu.in. Price was just a bit more than the ALPS Mt. Hood pack.

Hi skiracer :) if I wer you I'd think more about the "value" youget with a tent frm ALPS Mountaineering. These tent's are even made in the same factory as the tent's that are made in REI'S factory! I have the ALPS Mountaineering Red Tail pack ad it's the best pack I've ever used. I really enjoy using this pack. The overall performance and functionality really blew my old pack out of the water!! I'm very happy with this pack and have already begun suggesting it to friends. It's is a solid product and I look forward to continuing to use this pack for all my outdoor adventures! Into it i put my Cabela's self-iflating pad!

Thanks for the info, Sass! Cindylu set me good before she moved to AZ. I have enough to wait out a great deal. :) I LOVE a good deal.

Speaking of good deals... what kind of hydration pack did you get for Abby? Campmoor has some on sale for $15. I was thinking about getting some for the kids. Might come in handy for N. Manitou.

been to Binks
Went to see Brandon Binkley today to try on some of the waldies. Got a green pair and I just love them. They are too comfortable! Also got a sil/nylon water bag, enertia spaghetti, 4 titanium tent pegs, a pair of gaiters, and some reflective parachute cord similar to trip tease. Now my wife, (Mrs. Donna, not the famous singer Donna Summer) wants a pair. I may go to the Trace this afternoon to try everything out.

got my Antigravity Gear cookset in the mail today. so far, it looks SWEET. i had to weigh something else at the post office, so i brought it along - 14.4 ounces on the nose, just like they claim on their website! that's EVERYTHING. 2 pots, 2 pot cozies, alcohol stove, windscreen and pot gripper. awesome. my Primus multifuel stove weighs 17 ounces alone. lightweight, baby!
