Found me are pair of "crocs" wanna-bes for like $6. Figured for that price I could take a chance. So far they seem reasonably nice.

I just picked up a Gerber suspension multitool yesterday and it looks like a real good tool!! I was looking for something that atleast had a locking knife blade so its nice that everything locks! I also like how you can open the other tools without opening the pliers(one handed even for the knife blades).Another thing I like is that you can open the other tools without ripping your thumb nail off !LOL The older types just have the crescent shaped indentation but this one is much better.Oh yeah, another thing is,this tool has no unnecessary implements,I can use every tool on it while hiking, fishing, hunting etc

"The hammock is hung on the back porch with care, in hopes that by morning I still will be there." (With apologies to Clement Moore) It lacks a certain wilderness savoir faire but it will do for a test run. At least if my navel freezes off I don't have far to go to safety.

Well I didn't make the whole night. In fact I didn't even make half the night. But it wasn't the cold that did me in. I was warm enuf. The problem was I could not set the tarp because the porch just isn't stakeable so the lights from the housing tower across the back alley were just simply unabated. I think I'm going to like it.

crash, I like my steripen, but my first trip with it taught me a valuable lesson. keep a small cup to scoop up water that doesn't have a waterfall big enough to get your water bottle under. or some kind of pump to pull yup the water into your bottle

The Outdoor Research Rocky mountain low gaiters are nice. They breathe well and keep out stones and ticks.

For pants, the Railriders Eco mesh pants are nice. The nylon is lightweight and comfortable. They aren't zip offs into shorts, but have full side zips for ventilation and have mesh inside behind the side zips.

There's no physical address, no phone number. contact is only by email. None of that is decisive, but it might be enough for me to question the legitimacy if no one else knows anything about them.

The only thing that shows up in google is their own site. Again, not decisive. But makes you wonder.

bbinkley (past TTer) got started in the outdoor retail business by starting up a website w/ nothing more than one way to contact him. he later went on to open a store in TN. everyone's gotta start somewhere.

i can see how it would make you nervous, though...

tarabull... like I said... there is nothing decisive in that. However, those are some criteria that are suggested for discerning legit sites from phishing sites. If i really wanted to pursue it I would contact them by e-mail and see what kind of response I got. If they had a mail order option in their order process I would order by mail with a money order and see if the service was good. For $15 maybe it's worth the gamble.

I would not just hand over my cc info on a total unknown tho...

I am usually very trusting in that kind of thing. More so than I should be. Plus a few years can make a big difference. The abuse has skyrocketed recently.

On the plus side... they aren't just some "ebay" store set up with a bazillion other stores. Ebay has been singled out as a major offender in this style of rip off.

I was curious to all the talk on the single wall Black Diamond Tents, So I read a few reveiws and many people talked of getting soaked inside of these tents after prolonged periods of rain?

Doesn't seem like they'd be a wise choice for rainy locations?

Anyone here been through a good, long downpour in theirs, and stayed completely dry?

prolly not. they are not seam sealed from the factory. i loathe seam seal tape so this is a better way imo.

Not Made for AlaskaBy: Anonymous (1)
October 6, 2004

This tent does not work well in cooler temperatures less than 40 degress when there is moisture in the air. I was very disappointed. I later find out that it was supposedly designed for dryer alpine country. It may work well in that type of climate, but it did not work well for me in Alaska.

Was this helpful? (80) (13)

Nope not at all, I just went to backcountry.com, and read some of the customer reviews on some of the single wall Black Diamond tents.
Some of the reviews were old, so maybe they've improved the waterproofness of their tents, since then.

30m bluewater accellerator rope, 10.5mm. i was going to chop up my 60m rope for the gym (i don't trust the ropes there now) but now i won't do that... this "short" will be perfect and was only 60 bucks. good deal.

I just got a Mountainsmith Renegade pack that actually fits and feels "good" well you the drill. About 3900" and it came in a large torso which I pretty much maxed out. This critter should last the rest of my life. About 4# so while it is a tad heavy for you super ultrakughters who throw your tarp tent in your back pocket and mooch food off of everyone else (to save everyone weight) it is not too bad.

I was enroute to a friend's when I remembered the Great Outdoors is in Peachtree City, which I would be passing through. I was in need of fuel for my Snowpeak, which is scarce as scrap copper around here. So, I got me some fuel. Fuel is gear, eh?
