A note on tango - I should take a page out of her book of friendliness. I was impressed with the ease with which she would strike up a conversation with other folks that were there.

stumble, bumble...and trip...
looky what I found, when I woke up....

Yesterday, I went to St Louis to the ball game, I fell asleep, and when I awoke, I was in REI. I was gonna buy a 2 liter platypus, which I talked myself out of and was heading out the door, when I saw a dude leaving with boots with the infamous RED tag...red tag=garage sale stuff...I turned around, bonked myself on the head with the door handle...fell into a swoon...and stumbled onto the garage sale section...There was not much left, a candle lantern without the glass (i have a new glass), a pack towel (never been used) and as I turned to leave, a dude pushed a large laundry basket up in front of me saying OOOPs, we forgot to put this out...I pawed through it and found...are you ready for this???

#1 a mountain Hardware phantom 32 800 down fill bag...store demo...never been used...$100.00 reg 255.00

#2 North Face Boulder 33 tent...store demo...never been used...$99.00 reg 329.00.

When I came to in the car, this gear was in the back of my truck and away I went...

woo hoo...NEW GEAR!!!

The NF tent will replace my old canoe tent that don't keep ya dry, and the bag...well...heck...one can never have too many sleepy bags...nor tents...now I own 7 tents and a 3 sleepy bags and 4 backpacks and loads of other stuff...good times ahead in the new canoe tent.

Does fleece count as new gear?
Got myself a new fleece- Aircore 200 from lands end...I get a good discount on it cause I sell the damn stuff. Its a new kind of fleece supposed to be really good in snow and rain- extra warm, very compresseble, wont pile in the wash. PLUS they have it sized for petites also so I got one that actually fit (dont other outdoor wear companys understand the concept of petite sizes? SHEESH)

ScorchFire -

Having your own website really makes it easiest. With your ISP, you probably have something like a 10MB web space provision. So you could transfer images you want there and then set up image links to display them here as desired. There's a specific HTML statement you place in this message box in order for that image to be displayed from your web site. It goes like this...

[img border="0" src="http://www.digitaldrifter.org/cam.jpg" width="140" height="105"]

Just replace "[" with "<" and "]" with ">". Then, plug in your source reference from your web site. In this instance, it's "http://www.digitaldrifter.org/cam.jpg". This is the URL address normally found in you browser's address bar. You can size the image however you want by declaring a width and height. Or, just leave these blank for original sizing.

This is what that statement does:

Have fun.

Nikon D100 gives pictures pretty close to slide film?!?!? With all the gizmos on that thing, it looks like you're getting pretty close to 'photo-god-king!' Pretty impressive!

By 'two extra batteries' do you mean Sears 'Die-Hards?"

When you turn in on, it's like this finely tuned instrument building to unleash some kind of depth charge. And when you hold it, the testosterone tends to surface. 8)

It's got a tactical caliber kind of look and feel too. And from tinkering around today, it's rather obvious what it's capable of. The photo quality is hand over mouth type of material.

Tarbubble -What a nice thing to say.

If it begins to take the heart out of the images, even though quality improves, it'll be abandoned in a hurry. Sometimes you need to keep things simple.

I wouldnt worry about losing the heart of it, Photography is and always will be both art and talent - The gear can only limit what you do with your talent. (god forbid you and pennsy should ever go on a tt trip together :)

How will you be carrying it? I use a LowePro TLZ AW with the chest harness, and it works out quite well.

Having been a Canon guy, I made the switch to Nikon a few years ago to the N80. For a long time it was a Canon SLR, then I went to point-and-shoot, then Nikon SLR, back to digital point-and-shoot, and now digital SLR. Hmm.. wonder what's next.

The lense mostly in use is a 28mm-120mm Nikkor. There's also a 35mm-80mm lens for less weight.

Here are some more photos I took of the camera: Nikon D100

Photos of my camera. Yeah, I know, something's wrong with me. That's okay though, my kids still love me. 8)

Supposedly, the Canon EOS-10D gives you an impressive 650 photos on one Lithium battery. You'd need few compact flash cards for that. Probably compatible with 1GB cards.
