Anyone else have any thoughts?” 1:00:07 PM 11/10/03 Jeepers “My Glacier Pack just arrived, and it seems to be very well built and designed. It is somewhat heavier than the Mountainsmith I just sold, but it's a heck of alot more comfortable, and looks like it could handle loads of 45-50+ lbs. (I'm using it as my winter pack.) Anyway, I'll be able to provide a better review after Turkey Day.” 1:07:38 PM 11/10/03 Buddah “where ya going on TG BB?” 1:11:03 PM 11/10/03 “Somewhere out east, hopefully.” 1:24:41 PM 11/10/03 “BB - is that how it works? You're actually supposed to get rid of old gear when you get new? Noooo wooonder.” 1:29:24 PM 11/10/03 “gee Briar, lucky for you. I had 2 stands stolen this year before the season started. Must be that ying/yang thang'” 2:00:25 PM 11/10/03 “just picked up my new Exped down air mattress - just in time for Mt Rogers/Grayson Highland. I have great hopes for this being my solution for hammocking in the cold - 3 times warmer than a regular self inflating pad.” 6:32:56 PM 11/10/03 “got a msr zoid 1.5 from mt. rogers outfitters on saturday before heading up to massie gap. i went in there for a map, ONLY a map. at least that's what i kept telling myself. impulse buying is the best.” 6:36:14 PM 11/10/03 “Hey Buddah. I thought that was just a women's pack? Are you trying to tell us something? The Mrs. has that pack and it kicks ass. I've been using a DD Astralplane Overkill for 10 years now and it is totally kick ass. I'm hauling about a 60 pound load in it right now, every day from location to location and it's holding up great as i expect it to. Empty, the sucker weighs about 7 pounds but it is the best pack for taking abuse and I tell you, it's definintely being abused now. New gear: Nalgene Primus VariFuel stove Katadyn water filer (FORMERLY the PUR Hiker. When did this change happen? Too bad I have one sitting in a box in a Sacto storage shed. So I guess its not really new gear...)” 7:19:46 PM 11/10/03 “new guidebooks from Latta outdoors for Vermont, Canada Maritime Provinces and New Zealand. Screen funnel for my new stove - got in and out of EMS for $2.50!” 8:55:07 PM 11/10/03 “Nice buy ductape! Hopefully it was on sale! Rosey - maybe people that have it kick a$$. I think that's what it is. I actually looked at the terraplane and astraplane. What the he!! do I need those 6,000+ ci packs for when I've been lightening my load over the past four years? LOL! HOI - I hear those down sleeping pads are the shiznit. Thanks, in advance, for letting me test it at Mt. Rogers! j/k” 9:04:01 PM 11/10/03 Campmor Rules! “I made an order Monday morning, and I had a package at my door last night when I got home from work. Red Ledge Snowsport Pants Duofold Midweight Thermax top Duofold Ultra-Tec Single Layer With 4-Way Stretch Pants Now all I need are some crampons and I’m all ready for winter” 7:42:07 AM 11/12/03 “I LOVE packages at the door! Is there a great sale we should know about? Lumberzac have fun playing in the snow!!” 7:46:51 AM 11/12/03 “dhutch - sales are everywhere!” 7:52:18 AM 11/12/03 “Not really just needed to replace some old stuff before Thanksgiving. Locally I only have two places to by gear, EMS and Dick’s. EMS charges an arm and a leg (I need those for hiking) and Dick’s almost never has what I want or need. It’s nice to be able to order stuff and get it in a reasonable amount of time.” 7:56:10 AM 11/12/03 “I know BB, but I dislike spending lots of time shopping. Just want to go, get it and get out and use it. It helps to get the fliers or hear where people have gotten great deals. I do a lot more shopping on line now too.” 8:30:39 AM 11/12/03 I did it and here it is!!! “ ”10:19:01 AM 11/12/03 “woowooo! FanCy!” 10:20:01 AM 11/12/03 “Tango, wont that be a bit heavy in your pack?” 10:21:45 AM 11/12/03 “dang, tango!! like sass said- woowooo!” 10:22:15 AM 11/12/03 I love my Highlander! “It is so nice and better on gas mileage than I thought. 22 1/2 mpg. lumberzac it's ultralight, it feels like it's on wheels. ;-)” 10:27:12 AM 11/12/03 “ok, so it's not a new SUV :o( - but my new BlackDiamond Zenix headlamp just arrived :o)” 1:27:47 PM 11/12/03 “Nice ride Tango!!!!!!!! New headlamp - cool! Did you check out those mayo's?” 1:42:59 PM 11/12/03 “I did - I've preferred Petzl up to now - but I didn't want to buy Frnech any more ;o) Actually I wanted to try one of the new extra bright leds and this Zenix is lighter than the Myos. Not sure how it compares to normal flashlights yet though - I've resisted turning the lights off in the office and walking around with it on my head.” 1:54:59 PM 11/12/03 “our new Brasslite Turbo II D stove arrived today! it was supposed to be a joint Christmas present but my husband saw the box! he said he wasn't sure what it was but that he had a suspicion. dagnabbit! oh well, once the sun goes down i'm gonna fire that baby up. yee-haw!” 4:15:10 PM 11/12/03 “I just won me a jacket. North Face Gore-tex SUMMIT SERIES XCR Jacket for only $127.50 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2868888880&category=15677&rd=1” 10:17:11 PM 11/12/03 “Maxtor 200GB External Back-up Drive. This thing is massive. It's for the thousands of high-rest trip photos sitting exposed on this here machine. I'm gonna download the whole Internet next. 8^)” 10:23:45 PM 11/12/03 “High-res, that is. If you hear a loud sucking sound, you'll know what it is.” 10:25:25 PM 11/12/03 “Wow! That's preeeeeeeeeeety spiffy Tango, congrats!” 10:11:29 AM 11/13/03 “I was out yesterday at an AR gathering at Moosejaw, looking at the Petzl duo (same as Birch loaned me for my 24 hour race) In talking to the associates and other racers, I ended up with the Myo. I still think I'll use my Moonlight for packing as it's got good light and is weighs much less. But for power and duration needed for navigating by map and compass at night, it doesn't compare to the Petzl. 20% off feels pretty good too! Can't wait to try it. Out go the lights in my office nami. I swear I'm done buying gear for the year!” 11:23:47 AM 11/13/03 “20% off, you get a wedding invitation too! Which Mayo did you get.... I'm eyeing them as well!” 11:28:28 AM 11/13/03 “BB - You've confused me or maybe it was just the "W" work (imagine a shudder) From the HMWC and Dating sucks to wedding invitation. Did I miss something in my e-mail? A blind date gone well? All kidding aside, I got the Myo 5 LED with belt pack. I like to put the batteries in my backpack so I don't feel like a bobblehead. Some serious 117 ft of light at 1/2 power and if I remember correctly 217 hours at the low setting. Heavy, but necessary for bushwacking/topo reading at night. Like I said, not really for backpacking, more for racing. In your mind hear my version of the Tim Allen tool cry.” 10:59:55 AM 11/14/03 “Dang! You’re gonna be lightin’ up the sky like the lights at Mann’s Chinese Theater! One cool thing about the battery packs are you can put them inside your coat to keep the batteries warm. I keep waiting for my PT Solo to break so I can get me a new light but the damn thing is indestructible! On the next group hike would one of you steal the thing on the way out?” 11:06:14 AM 11/14/03 “Just tell your wife you "lost" it. lol buried in the mud 2 feet down. Or a bear took it, you're lucky they didn't touch the food or you would have starved. Sympathy may encourage her to get you a new headlight for Christmas! That's a great tip about keeping the battery pack warm. They work better that way.” 11:14:21 AM 11/14/03 “Sympathy? Her reply is usually, “You want sympathy? Look in the dictionary between shlt and syphilis.”. Actually she has lost a bunch of weight and has agreed to try packing again. I’m hoping I can pawn some of my stuff off on her and get some new stuff. I have to appeal to her addiction to shopping ya know.” 11:21:16 AM 11/14/03 “Cool, it would be great to meet "she who can put up with Nigal"” 12:08:05 PM 11/14/03 “I just picked up the new Gregory Z-pack! I didn't even go out looking for a pack. I wanted to return my G-pack to EMS, one of the straps looked like it was pulling out. I was going to exchange it and the salesperson said have you seen the new Z-pack? Well it looks pretty nice. A bit over 3 pounds but much heavier duty looking than the g-pack. Slightly beefier suspension, a better shove it pocket with a neat accessory pocket(big enough for lunch and a jacket), a waterproof side entry zipper, and a top pocket. 25lbs felt like nothing in the pack, it seems to hold it closer to my back than the G-pack,” 9:14:37 AM 11/17/03 “I cracked tha casing on my tikka. Too bad I have the Ion as backup, or a gear run would be in order!” 9:24:18 AM 11/17/03 “Dang those backups!” 9:34:57 AM 11/17/03 “Well, if ya think about it.....now I don't have a backup...... WHOOOOOO HHOOOOOO!!!” 9:40:18 AM 11/17/03 “hey! I went to try it again - this morning the price was $419, now it's $335! =D” 10:35:05 AM 11/17/03 “whoops, got so excited - wrong thread, LOL... =D” 10:39:11 AM 11/17/03 “I'm going to be getting new gear. Cottonsocks thought she would do me a favor and washed my rain jacket (in heavy detergent) followed by a nice cycle in the dryer. I had problems with it wetting out around the cuffs before. I wore it yesterday and I had problems with it wetting out all over.” 10:41:10 AM 11/17/03 Red Ledge Rain Gear “Hey chili, I got a red ledge pant/jacket combo and after the rainy weekend at Mt. Rogers, I'd recommend them to anyone.” 10:57:18 AM 11/17/03 Red Ledge Rain Gear “Hey chili, I got a red ledge pant/jacket combo and after the rainy weekend at Mt. Rogers, I'd recommend them to anyone.” 10:57:19 AM 11/17/03 “I hate it when I do that!” 10:57:43 AM 11/17/03 “Thanks roam around.” 11:00:05 AM 11/17/03 “I got the red ledge set from Campmoor some 4 years ago. I got great service from it. I gave the set to a newbie last year. An excuse to try out the preip stuff.” 11:02:11 AM 11/17/03 “I got Abby a red ledge rain jacket for $12.99! It's a great little coat. I ended up getting one from a friend too so she's set through size 7. The kid's version is fantastic and lightweight (compared to other kid's stuff).” 11:05:15 AM 11/17/03 “Glad to hear you say that Sassafras, after this weekend I decided it'll be worth it to get my kids some real rain gear. I think it'll make the bad weather days a little more comfortable for them.” 11:06:54 AM 11/17/03 Jump to Page << prev
