“My Glacier Pack just arrived, and it seems to be very well built and designed. It is somewhat heavier than the Mountainsmith I just sold, but it's a heck of alot more comfortable, and looks like it could handle loads of 45-50+ lbs. (I'm using it as my winter pack.)

I've been using a DD Astralplane Overkill for 10 years now and it is totally kick ass. I'm hauling about a 60 pound load in it right now, every day from location to location and it's holding up great as i expect it to. Empty, the sucker weighs about 7 pounds but it is the best pack for taking abuse and I tell you, it's definintely being abused now.

“Not really just needed to replace some old stuff before Thanksgiving. Locally I only have two places to by gear, EMS and Dick’s. EMS charges an arm and a leg (I need those for hiking) and Dick’s almost never has what I want or need. It’s nice to be able to order stuff and get it in a reasonable amount of time.”

Actually I wanted to try one of the new extra bright leds and this Zenix is lighter than the Myos.
Not sure how it compares to normal flashlights yet though - I've resisted turning the lights off in the office and walking around with it on my head.”

“I was out yesterday at an AR gathering at Moosejaw, looking at the Petzl duo (same as Birch loaned me for my 24 hour race) In talking to the associates and other racers, I ended up with the Myo. I still think I'll use my Moonlight for packing as it's got good light and is weighs much less. But for power and duration needed for navigating by map and compass at night, it doesn't compare to the Petzl. 20% off feels pretty good too! Can't wait to try it. Out go the lights in my office nami.

All kidding aside, I got the Myo 5 LED with belt pack. I like to put the batteries in my backpack so I don't feel like a bobblehead. Some serious 117 ft of light at 1/2 power and if I remember correctly 217 hours at the low setting. Heavy, but necessary for bushwacking/topo reading at night. Like I said, not really for backpacking, more for racing. In your mind hear my version of the Tim Allen tool cry.”

“Dang! You’re gonna be lightin’ up the sky like the lights at Mann’s Chinese Theater! One cool thing about the battery packs are you can put them inside your coat to keep the batteries warm. I keep waiting for my PT Solo to break so I can get me a new light but the damn thing is indestructible! On the next group hike would one of you steal the thing on the way out?”

That's a great tip about keeping the battery pack warm. They work better that way.”

“I just picked up the new Gregory Z-pack! I didn't even go out looking for a pack. I wanted to return my G-pack to EMS, one of the straps looked like it was pulling out. I was going to exchange it and the salesperson said have you seen the new Z-pack? Well it looks pretty nice. A bit over 3 pounds but much heavier duty looking than the g-pack. Slightly beefier suspension, a better shove it pocket with a neat accessory pocket(big enough for lunch and a jacket), a waterproof side entry zipper, and a top pocket.
25lbs felt like nothing in the pack, it seems to hold it closer to my back than the G-pack,”

Cottonsocks thought she would do me a favor and washed my rain jacket (in heavy detergent) followed by a nice cycle in the dryer.

I had problems with it wetting out around the cuffs before. I wore it yesterday and I had problems with it wetting out all over.”
