Well, unless you live in NY, damn...cigarettes almost $7, they are nuts up there. Glad I don't smoke anymore...

I got a feeling CS is not much different, realy am curious if it's worth $169. I may just try it out tonight...

I really could care less about the advanced picture browser.

I'll let you know if it's worth it. am a little worried because the requirments are pentium 3 or 4.

It's a huge program, that will probalby slow down everything...

Finally switched to 3mm parachute cord tonight...got it for $0.15/ft.

Also bought a fleece sleeping bag liner.

Got one pair of a generic smartwool expedition socks. Gonna test it all this weekend on the Blair Witch Hike.

I asked for socks for Christmas. Can you believe that - my kids about puked.

Asked for a new headlamp too. The local gear store has one at .9 oz!

The smartwool is great...I always said I'd never pay more than $5 for a pair of socks so this was a big deal, lol...I used to use Thorolos socks and always had cold feet. I put on the expeditions tonight in the house and they were nice and warm. I think they'll do great.

I'm thinking about getting a new headlamp...I use the old model Gemini now...I like it but it's not bright enough. I never use the Xenon light so I think I'm going to get a strictly LED light.

Have a look at the Black Diamond ZENIX, 2 superbright LEDs on either side of a Focused "hyperbright" LED. I'm thinking about trading in my Petzl MYO 5.

She Coop gave my my Epic Parka early so I could use it in the rain. Pretty sweet rain shell.

Wigwam Merino socks which I think are similar to Smartwool are awesome - much better than Thorlos in my opinion.

Coop, I've been using the epic jacket for about 6 moths. That mutha is nice, and suprisingly tough!

It's too new for me to have tried out its toughness (I'm still babying it) but the breathability seems good, particularly since I can make it perform almost like a poncho with the huge pit zips.

The hood construction is new to me. I've been used to a single drawstring on around the face. With the MH design you can see how a hood should really work in terms of surrounding your face and providing a bill.

One thing - I don't think I'm using the single-handed drawstrings properly as I can't pull them without two hand yet. Give me some time.

Bunyip - I've got one of those - The light isn't quite as powerful as some of the new xeonon lights out there - it's about as bright as a AA maglite. The Yukon one 1 watt light is much more white than blue - that looks pretty good, but is heavier.
Oh and - COME ON ENGLAND...he he he.

Coop - I beat the hell out of the Epic in the Daks on Turkey day...no rips or holes. As for the hood, the damned things is annoying until you learn how to position it properly.

Bunyip - what is wrong with the Mayo5? I recently was given a mayo3, yet haven't used it yet.

I bought a Turtle Fur hat a few weekends ago and love it. It may not be a piece of "technical" gear but it works well and is another small step away from looking techy.

Frankly, I have BOTH hats...literally.

My MH hat is grey, though, and the bottom hat is, except for the color, exactly like the one I bought.

I bought a Turtle Fur hat a few years ago and it's the kind that opens at the top so you can vent the entire top of your head or use it as a neck gaiter.

HPM - I remember you had an MH something but didn't realize it was the parka - I would have consulted you before my purchase a little more. I ended up going with the parka over the Marmot Precip primarily because it was longer.

Got a new piece of gear from under the tree....a therm-a-rest chair kit! It weighs 10oz and IMO it is worth every ounce. I wish I had it last week on the Blair Witch Hike...It would have made for a nice place to sit in the snow.

The only reason I've refused to switch to XM radio is the fact they charge you $10 a month for the service...unless that has changed? I'm po so I'll stick to free radio.

I've had my eye on the XM system since I first heard about it. I don't drive around enough now though to justify it in my own head. That may change in the next year though.
