Got my Nest 1!
Only paid $36 for it too. It looks really nice, I'm looking forward to using it with my tarp this summer.

Now, just gotta figure out where...

I love my Nest 2, I can't wait to try it out beyond just a front-yard pitching.

Simer190,
what did you not like about your MSR miniworks?

Saw that my tent, the REI Half Dome Plus 2 is on sale at REI for only 110 bucks. Not sure why they have eliminated the "plus" from the name, but it looks like the same tent. This is 50 bucks off the "regular" price. I like the tent; I think others do, too.

Just back from REI, where I picked up my new Gregory "Z" pack. It's almost 3 pounds lighter than my 18-year-old REI pack. Sweet!!

Black Diamond Firstlight
Picked up a Black Diamond Firstlight with my REI dividend and 20% off coupon. I must say it is a lightweight 2 person tent! I was a bit skeptical at first of the performance of a single wall tent. But, I immediately took it out without seam sealing it and it rained at least 2 inches over night. To my surprise and delight it didn't leak and the condensation from two people wasn't a problem. Since then I have fully seam sealed the tent and am ready for another outing this weekend on the Buffalo River and of course rain is promised by the weather man again.

The tent is basically free standing and has plenty of headroom from end to end which I find very nice. Most of my tents are tapered with barely enough headroom to get dressed in the high end. The light yellow color is also pleasant.

The minature vestibule over the entrance is a bit lacking but other than that it is an excellent tent. At only 2 1/2 lb plus the small stuff size makes it a delight to pack and carry. Sorta makes my bivy obsolete.

That does sound nice for a 2 person. Mine sits in the room patiently waiting for its cherry to be popped. I guess I should ask for a weekend off before the flies take over. I think I'll check the trips page.

Primus Question
So my newest gear arrived today. Primus Technotrail Yellowstone. According to the REI item page, "Heat reflector/windscreen shields the flame to increase operating efficiency and reduce fuel usage ". I assumed that it came with some type of windscreen but it doesn't. After reading the box I assume they mean the grids (potstand) are supposed to deflect wind....is this correct or am I missing a wind screen? And if not, then how well does this thing work in high wind?

I also picked up an REI tee for $15. It's supposed to have a microban finish that helps stops smells.

I also got a Mountain Hardwear Ignition Tee for $30. It's really light, v-cut neck, no tags, fabric reflectors...seems nice.

Mr UPS just dropped off my new summer bag. Mountain Crossings (Walasi Yi) has entered the gear market with a 1 lb 8 oz summer bag made with prima loft fill and is rated to 40 degrees. Drawstring foot, full zip front for hostel use, it is designed for the thru hiker. i can't wait to try it out. Prolly next Monday or Tuesday. Best news its only $100.00.

That bag sounds pretty cool. It only weighs 1oz more than the REI travel down but it protects 5deg more and it fully unzips for hostel use...nice. Is it a square or a mummy bag because I'm looking for a good rectangular alternative to the wal-mart fleece for the summer.
Dub

It's a square cut. I'll give a gear report next week. It is quite compact and comes with a stuffsack. Frankly it looks tough as nails for a light weight bag.

Cool. I almost bought the travel down but instead got a fleece bag because I wanted a rectangular cut for summer. A bad like yours might be better. I'll keep an eye out for your report.

I really like the fact that it's primaloft so when it rains as it tends to do down here, the bag isn't useless.

Finally, finally, finally... I got my Henry Shires Squall tarptent up in the backyard yesterday. Received it a week ago tomorrow, but due to activities and then rain I couldn't set it up.

I like it! The netting all around the bottom seems to be effective - it was sunny, and when I sat up I could feel the heat, but when I laid flat I could feel nothing but cool breezes. I need to figure out how to get it higher so more of the netting is exposed for even more ventilation.

Nice quick setup, even my first setup only took 3 minutes. Quality finish and workmanship, I'm happy. Now I need to get it back up for a seam seal (I hate doing that).

Roam.
Yo Bro...
Here is the sizes and spec's
Bora 40

Available in Short, Regular and Tall torso lengths.

Specification for torso/ waist and hips/ base volume and weight are as follows:

Short - 16 - 19 in. / 28 - 32 in. / 2,440 cu. in. / 4lbs. 3oz.

Regular - 18 - 21 in. / 30 - 37 in. / 2,800 cu. in. / 4lbs. 6oz.

Tall - 20 - 23 in. / 30 - 37 in. / 2,930 cu. in. / 4lbs. 9oz
Note: The extended load is approx 3200-3400 cu.in.

I'm 6' 200+lbs tall 34 inch waist 46 in chest. My torso is approx 21-22 inches

I know is a pound or so heavy. But I have made up for it other areas. I want a pack I can use for multi purposes and is tough and rugged for a many years of use.. I hope this is the last pack I buy for a while... Nomad has one and loves it and he and I are equal in size. I will still have it under 25lbs for 2-4 day trips. Got all wicked light stuff to put in it.
Do you already have a Bora 40?

Only 1 review in gear section from 2000.....

no, I was curious about the Bora 30 your unloading cheap.

I want to replace my Kelty external frame. It's heavy and a little too much space.

I need around 3600 cu in though and a little shorter than you, I'm 5'10"

Bora 30 = 30liters?

You'd need two of them to get 3600ci.

Roam the Bora 30 is only about 2400 cubes I'm really prolly 5'11" 6 foot just sounds better....LOL I have a long torso though.... The Bora 30 has only a web waist belt belt not alot of support like the 40 has on it's waist belt.... the 30 would only be good up to 20-25 lbs tops....
....but the 30 only weighs about 2-1/2 lbs...there are lighter packs, but maybe not as tuff..
