Yes, LtHiker, I'm hoping to get a chance to use them at FYAO. This morning, I was getting them adjusted to fit my boots. Looks like they'll work quite nicely.

Sweet! New or used?

I have looked into used ones in the past, but decided to wait until the kids were around.

Used...it's a 1999 Viking Legend 2485ST. Very nice. Lots of space inside, way more than another we looked at this week. It has a slide-out dinette, so there's even more room inside. About the only thing that it doesn't have that we wanted was an attached screen room.

Kelty Gunnison 2 tent
Kelty Gunnison 2 tent
Campmor price on sale $129.96
http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=38470413&memberId=12500226

My measured weights:

2# 3.5oz tent fly
1# 15.9oz tent body
8.3oz pole
8.3oz pole
6.5oz stakes(12)
1.5oz tent bag
1.3oz guys(6)
0.7oz gear loft
0.4oz pole bag
0.3oz stake bag

Total from my scales: 5 pounds 14.7 ounces
Manufactors claimed weight: [packaged] 5 lb 11 oz, [minimum] 5 lb 3 oz

What I consider the 'carry' weight is less than the total.
Only four stakes (2.2oz) are needed for most use and only the two short guy lines (0.2oz) are needed.
Neither is the pole bag (0.4oz) or gear loft (0.7oz).
My carry weight will be: 5 & 1/2 pounds, give or take a half ounce.

One nice thing about this 2 person tent is it can be split up between two with equal carry weights, give or take a half ounce.
One person carry the fly and one pole: 2 pounds 12 ounces
The other carry tent body, one pole, 4 stakes, tent & stake bags: 2 pounds 12 ounces

I tried on a few pairs of boots today. I'm screwed footwear wise. I'll be in running shoes until I strike it rich and can afford custom boots.

So I settled for three pairs of new socks and a new pair of polarized sunglasses. Pretty lame gear score. I shpould probably just not even post on here anymore.

Do two suits, a couple of shirts and ties for a job interview, that may take me to a job in a new location, where at least I can dayhike, ski, snow shoe--qualify as "new gear?" ;-}

Not wanting to cite Backpacker Mag as a source of anything good but they had a blurb (they're all blurbs aren't they?) about how the practice of heat molding used in mountainiering boots is coming to hiking boots also. Don't know if it'd be any cheapper or if you could even find a place to do it.

Ah. I'm so bummed about the rain coming in mine. I've started daydreamimg about a Warmlite again. I know how/where I pitch the Tarptent matters, but when I get to camp, I'm interested in picking a site more for ambience and convenience and less for drainage. And the Warmlite is 4-sesaon so I start to compare paying for the bathtub retro to having a for real 4-season.

SS - I really enjoy that tent for the type of slow trips I've been taking lately. It seems weird to carry something that weighs more than my sleeping bag, tarptent, and backpack combined, but I like it. Enjoy.

This weekend I'm making a sil poncho and about a dozen stuff sacks. I guess that counts as new gear.

I carry a couple document clips in my pack and I can clip up my pack liner (lawn and leaf bag) in the foot end and it can keep nearly all the rain out. Drainage is a whole other matter though.

What'd ya get? I sold my pop up and got one of the hybrid ones (hard shell with pop out beds). I kind of miss the pop up because it was easier to take places.

I had a little 10' Coleman. Very nice to pull and it was still a bit like camping. Don't get me wrong, the shower, kitchen and tv aren't so terrible now. LOL!

It's great if ya have kids. A lot less work.

My Dakota pulls the Viking like it's not there.

The thing is huge for a pop-up. Sleeps 7, has a pull-out dinette, a cassette toilet, indoor/outdoor stove, A/C, furnace, 3-way fridge, water heater, outside shower, the works. The only thing it doesn't have that we wanted was a screen room. It has an awning.

My new bag showed up today. It really looks nice and stuffs down to the size of a 2 liter bottle. Been a long time since I bought a new sleeping bag, can't wait to try it out. It will take up about half the space in my pack that my old North Face bag does. Woo Hoo!

does replacement gear...
count as "new" gear. I did get 2 new (used) dutch ovens and I got 78" bars for my roof rack. Now I can carry 2 canoes or 4 women strapped up top of the Awsome Trak. I also got 2 new tires for the Trak, new ball joints...joints...LOL...OINTS!!!!!!!!!!..oh oh...ban stikmon...he said OINTS!!!! and 2 new seals for the transmission.

whoo hoo...new gear.

But, I'm gonna put a serious order in with Campmor and get some new stuff...socks and a new fleecy top to match my fleecy bottoms, compression sack endcaps and a silnylon compression sack for my sleeping bag, and lots of other things that I want, but dont necessarily need.

Nige, sounds promising but my trouble is in the width of the toebox. My goal is to find a boot that puts no pressure on the top of my big toe joint or on my pinkie toes. I have a EEE balls of my feet and a normal M sized rest. I am a freak of nature.
I suppose I could buy a very nice pair of boots and try to get them stretched beyond their intended shape but damn, they're so expensive to be doing that and I can't even find a leather, non-goretex boot to start with!

wannabp, I have Kodak DX7590 digital camera. I wanted the wide angle lens for the Sierra Trip. I got it off ebay for a lot less than any store sells it for. I did have to buy an adapter lens so I can attach it.

here is the camera I have

It allows you to get a bigger (wider) view of the landscapes. Wide Angle Lenses aren't good for taking photos with people, though, as you'll discover that the people on the edge of the frame will be distorted...

per the website: Put this wide-angle lens in your camera bag and soon you'll be putting spectacular photos on your wall. Our SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH XENAR 0.7X Wide-Angle Lens increases your angle of view a full 30 percent.

Look on ebay under camera accessories. I justcehcked and there are wide angle and telephoto lens for your camera.
