Picked up the tent I ordered from REI Outlet late last week. It's the REI Camp Hut 6, a big car camping tent. BowlderGal & 'Son set it up quite easily in the yard on Saturday - it's HUGE! I can even stand up straight in it in the center (just under 6 feet). While at REI, I also picked up a car camping stove, the Century 2-burner matchless model. Yes, we're going car camping late this summer....”

“Well, we caved and spent the rei dividend. I got:

some sealskin gloves. I really like my socks and the gloves will come in handy for kayaking.

a pair of Chaco sandals, these are built like a brick poophouse, vibram soles and more support than any other pair of sandals I've ever put on. I think I could hike in them!

And a throw bag for the kayak. Something I hope I never have to use.

Also got a bucket hat and wicking shirt for the little one.

I was supposed to get a new platy bag but forgot. Now I'll have to go back.”

“Bought the REI Kilo Plus -5 degree bag so I don't freeze my butt off ever again. Had the REI Downtime +15 and hated it. Also bought down socks marked down from 24 to 5.83. Two lite compression sacks, some salt and pepper shakers, some fire paste and another fuel canister for the MSR pocket rocket.

Going to open up all my windows tonight and sleep in my bag.”

“It looked bigger then I expected it to look. you can buy rolls and little bags. I bought the roll. this way I can make th baggy longer if needed.”

“Ewker, you can seal up whatever you need to. The bag roll is 8" wide. The length is whatever you want it to be. I bought one, too, andhave been using it for quite a bit. Even if not using all of something, you can put what you have left of that something, and seal it up for future use....like crackers or cookies.”

Oh, and I got all new first aid stuff, too. Threw out the old expired stuff and replaced it. Nice to have a nurse around that can get this stuff.”

“I was very happy when I got home and found that it was actually 0.5 oz. lighter than advertised!

I got the precip in part to offset the added weight, it's 14oz. lighter than my old shell, which will now be my winter shell.”

“Bison, I too just picked up a precip to replace my heavy moonstone shell.”

“What I found interesting was that REI has a competing shell, the Ultra Light Jacket, that isn't quite as nice as the PreCip, I tried them both out, the REI shell's hood wasn't nearly large enough, and it was harder to get leverage on the pit zips, the waist cinch was harder to operate etc... but they price the REI shell $25 more than the PreCip? Why would someone buy it? they should really price it $25 less than the PreCip.”

“I guess it comes down to the fact that they will charge what they think they can get away with even if its off lesser quality then a competing brand w/ a cheaper price. I really liked the head room in the precip and the ease of use as well. Hopefully it will preform as everyone says.”

Bought a new pack. Somewhere b/w big daypack and small weekend pack. It's a LoweAlpine and has awesome loops on the hip belt that work great for pulling my gear sled. The hip belt is removable. Wore it for a winter trip last weekend and loved it.

Also, got the Jet Sled Jr to replace my old sled. It's awesome. Absolutely no complaints. I would recommend it to anyone.

I got the same down booties that wolfeyes was talking about. They're awesome for the sleepy bag. Sometimes, because I'm tall, I find that if I slip even an inch down my sleeping pad, my feet come off the pad and when it's cold enough, they'll get chilly w/out the insulation b/w me and the ground (floorless shelter). So, I wore these on my last trip and my feet were toasty.”

“Went to REI last night. I needed new grips for my trekking poles. But apparently they are NOT interchangeable. They were saying I would need to send them to the manufacturer to replace them. So I bought brand new foamy/cork gripped titanium Lekis. So I used my 20% on that. My dividend was sadly $22.
I also got the new Thermarest pillow. (Damn Sierra Designs and sarbar!) It just kicks the butt of my old pillow. It's bigger, squishier, yet packs smaller. What to do with the old one? Don't know. I don't have the heart to return it to REI just cause a better product came out. (sigh)
I am returning my old trekking poles though. The grips give me blisters and hot spots! They are hard plastic and my hands sweat and they rub. Not good.
AND! ta da! I ordered the GCI Outdoors Trail Sling chair. And yes, REI is going to carry it for spring. It's already on their website and stocked in their warehouse. So I will pop back in when I get it and let you know if it's any good. It's an econonmical alternative to the Sling Lite, although slightly heavier.”

“I got a new attic for my Black Diamond Lighthouse today. It was shipped separately. The Lighthouse is supposed to arrive next week...I can't wait!!!”

“I just got a few things, the biggest being an MSR "Hubba Hubba" tent. Quite nice, and very lightweight. It may have a few assembly tricks, but for the most part seems quite doable. The shockcords are all interconnected, and my fear is they'll tangle up big time. I'm trying to keep the different "bundles" together with rubber bands. I got some new thorlos, which I love. The only problem is, these new ones are women's socks, and the pair I'm over the moon about are men's socks, which accomodate wider feet with less fiber stretch/compression. HPM got several new goodies too, but he'll have to post about them himself. :P”

I did notice though that the size tag was cut out, I think it's actually a small bag (which is what I wanted anyway if I would've bought it brand new)
