Just picked up that Life-link snow saw at REI. Well, technically, BowlderGal picked it up for me, since she has the day off....

WoooHooo
Piked up a MSR Pocket Rocket, a 2L Platy and expedition weight SmartWool socks. Even though I couldn't make the PA overnighter, it wasn't a total loss.

PS. Love that TiPod stand!

Low riders for our Yakima equipment. We changed cars so the old towers don't fit. Most of the cost covered by REI dividend and the 20% off coupon.!

Now we can throw on the Basket case and haul lots of gear! Whoo-hoo!

Got a new DVD writer last weekend

The photos are filling up my hard drive too fast and the CDs don't hold enough.

Next thing on my list is the Canon S70, as soon as I find a good deal. My S50 is having problems since I took a fall in the snow a few weeks ago.

SnowNymph...did you get double layer DVD burner? And is it Light Scribe-enabled? Light Scribe enabled is pretty cool. I bought one a couple weeks ago. Blank DVD's are pretty expensive, but it really does look awesome. And you can always use regular DVD's. IT sort of burns your design onto the DVD, and looks much more professional.

okay...so now I list my new gear:

ULA P2
Western Mountaineering minus 20 bag
Bearicade

i prolly mentioned this already like a 100 times but I am just sooo happy.

Snow Nymph - keep your eye on slickdeals.net. They have good deals on cameras every week or two. I think I've seen that one on sale once or twice.

Gemini, yes, the Sony dual DVD Burner. Its just for backing up the digital photos I take. SnowDude upgraded my hard drive but its still not big enough to store the images. I'm taking 200-400 every weekend.

techtrek, I'll bookmark slickdeals.net Thanks!

I want to get a DVD burner for the same reason as Snow Nymph. Unfortunately my computer is too old and they no longer make DVD burners that are compatible with it.

200-400 every weekend is a sign that you have a habit.

I shot a Junior ROTC drill meet a couple of weekends ago and shot about 137 on the day. Out of that, I winnowed it down to about a dozen I wanted to use in the paper.

If I had been using film, I would have shot no more than 48. It is nice to be able to shoot without worrying about film and developing costs. But then we spend money on cards and CDs.

Gregory AdventPro race pack, saweeeeeeet! I think I may be able to get away with it for overnighters in the summer too.

I got a new bar of soap.

Dang I smell good.

I like the old gear I got. Carried it too far to trade it in, it has personality, except for this old soggy bar of soap that is more dirt than soap. I will trade it for one pack of nabs....

Any takers?

The Advent Pro is a great pack - very comfortable! I've used one for weekenders - you should be okay if you're careful how you pack. Down bag and a hammock or tarp and you'll be set.

Blind Willie, did you get the "purty" smelling soap?

Katadyn Hiker
Got a new Katadyn Hiker water filter today from Cabela's. It was $59 and came with a mail in rebate for $10 off. It will sure be nice for my trip to the Grand Canyon this June. I think I'll still take P.A. tablets for backup.

I got some new gear recently....I must have temporarily lost my mind....drunk on gear.

Leki Ultralite Trekking Poles (sexy, damn sexy)

Winter Camelback (finally have a camelback!)

Mountain Hardware Hiking Pants (finally have real hiking pants...and they were 75% off)

A little coffeemaking spoon thing (we'll see how it works out)

New boots that so far are not rubbing my heels raw like my old ones: Montrails with supported arch insert

Badda bing...that'll do me for another two years.

Light trekking poles are for me not of much concern. Not having looked at numbers, how much lighter can they be? Plus half the time its the ground supporting them, not me.

If you're near an REI, I'd recommend you rent one of their packs for a weekend trip. Gives you a chance to try before you buy.

That's weird. Ship them to a friend in the states and have them ship them to you. I'd do it for you if you pay back the shipping cost.

They'll probably look at the boots and say, "Those look new." Can you prove that you bought them in Canada?"

I had a work visa in Canada many moons ago. Bought a camera in Canada to replace one that stolen. When I went to the States for Christmas, my camera was "detained" upon returning to Canada until I could prove I bought it in Canada. Fortunately I had the reciept.

Trangia Mini Alcohol stove and cookset.

$30 - 20% REI coupon - Dividend = $6

I have plenty of Pepsi stoves but I wanted to try this out (even though it's quite a bit heavier then a pepsi can stove). It seems to simmer VERY well... suprising for an alcohol stove. You can put the flame out and save the remaining fuel by screwing ont he lid to the stove... nice touch. No more waisted fuel. Very nice setup for someone wanting an alcohol stove and have too many thumbs to make their own pepsi stove. I can easily recommend this stove.
