Scored a new piano yesterday!

OK, so it's not exactly an ultralight item. At a family gathering a few months ago, we somehow said something about the piano we were renting (BowlderSon plays). BowlderCousin was shocked - thought we had bought one. Since no one played their piano and she needed the space, it was offered to us, as long as we arranged the move. So the piano came yesterday - woo hoo indeed!

i've decided i cannot live without new Lowa's.
the boots i want are not in REI, but would be shipped from the Lowa warehouse in Connecticut and although a roadtrip did cross my mind, i'm thinking that might be a tad to far for a weekend drive.
would anyone in Detroit like to lend me their address?

New gear here too! I used my REI Visa for work related travel all year. So, with the rather sizeable rebate I got two Granite Gear G Packs. One for me and one for my Girlfriend Shannon. Can't wait to get them on the road, er trail that is.

Replacement gear
After going back and forth with the tent manufacture since January, my replacement tent arrived in the mail yesterday. The fabric on my old tent started to delaminate and seeing as it had a lifetime warranty, I called the manufacture. The problem was another company bought the company and my tent was no longer being produced. The company told me they were going to look and see if there was any left in there warehouse. Two weeks went by and I didn’t here back from them, so I called again. I was told that they didn’t have any in the warehouse, but the tent was going to be going back into production. The only problem with that was it was going to take about 3 months before any would be made. I called back last week to see what the status was and was told I’d have a new tent in a week. Last night I found a box on the kitchen table. My tent finally arrived. The new one was upgraded form the old one, as is a 4-season tent. The only problem with this is that it weighs 4.5lbs more than my old tent. Considering this new tent weighs about as much as all my other regular backpacking gear combined, I don’t see myself using this tent very much. I guess now I’m going to have to buy anther tent.

helz no. Call them back up and tell them what's going on and they will probvably send you another one of the one you had for free and still let you have the other one.

It happened to me once!

What make and model tent is it? That's pretty good if they offer a lifetime warranty on tent fabric. Eureka says PU tent fabric lasts an average of 7 years from what I read on their website.

Picked me up a Marmot Couliour 0F down sleeping bag with my REI coupon. Still haven't taken it out of the huge bag it came in, probably should do that soon.

RichB, it was a Quest Preying Mantis. The only reason the fabric was covered was because there was a known fault in the fabric the year my old tent was manufactured. It probably also helped that I had the same problem with the tent fly a few years before and they entered in the computer that the tent body may also need to be replaced. I really can't complain too much about the customer service, because they made good on the warranty and I would have gotten a replacement sooner if they had one to replace it with.

I saw that tent in a magazine and it's a pretty nice tent, although too bad the fabric was faulty on it. I didn't know Quest sold out to someone else, but sounds like they tried to help you out.

Snowpeak Titanium sport

Brunton compass (It's about time I have one of my own)

Got a new camera! My Canon Powershot S70 (7.1 megapixels) arrived!

My Canon Powershot S50 (5.0 megapixels) died two weeks ago. I had to use the old S45 this past weekend and was happy with the macro shots.

I was thinking about trying them this weekend, but I'll first try them out on a local creek this week to make sure everything is OK with the fit and waterproofness. I made them out of heatsealable nylon around 7 oz. per square yard. I would have liked a lighter fabric, but on the positive side they seem very tough and should last a long time.

I got a line on a HUGE piece of new gear. The prospect of it is downright EXCITING! Have to sell two pieces of old gear first, on Ebay. Then we're golden and the upgrade begins! I can't wait to fill you all in if/when it works out!

Suunto S6 Altimeter Watch. http://www.backcountry.com/store/SUN0051/Suunto-S6-Watch.html?mv_pc=r126&CP=Froogle&CMP=SPC-Froogle&ATT=050405&GCID=C2000x025&keyword=s6+watch

My friend Aaron won it in the Vertical Cure challenge this year. He gave it to me because last year there was a tie between two guys, so they got both watches. Aaron said I would make use of the watch, and wanted me to have it.

Had a SD Sirius in my hand. Stood there staring at the MSR Hubba2. Hadnt come 'in here' to spend that much. Left with the Hubba2.

Yep, last time I was in Yellowstone I foolishly took a $10 bottle of human pepper spray I picked up at Wal-Mart. After seeing a griz near my campsite, well, I didn't sleep much...so I'm taking the big boy this year.
