Use the Green superfeet so I get better arch support. It's not perfect--can't afford the custom, but my feet like me much more.” 9:01:16 AM 8/05/05 “When I first bought superfeet I was told to put my foot on each size until I found the one that fit my arch, then cut that size down to fit my shoe. It worked perfectly Chicago Mark.” 9:50:12 AM 8/05/05 “I'll read anything that involves tinkering, stoves and burning things. Really interesting topic for me.” pitts 8:38:19 AM LOL You might like my poor little website then. Address is in my profile. Just click on my name.” 9:53:12 AM 8/05/05 “WHOO HOO! Congrats Hub! You guys know what you are having? The best piece of advice I can start you off with is do what you think is right. All the books you can read can help, but when it comes down to it, you will have to do it. Also, get one of these. They totally rock. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/baby/B00003TL7P/qid=1123251447/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_ur_2_2/102-1464667-3841735 You can use any standard trash bag in them.” 9:56:23 AM 8/05/05 “StoveStomper: HA! The "Hojo's Pepsi Can Stove Design Experiments" is one of my favorite pages. Thanks, however. I got to it from Google a while ago and didn't see the rest of the site.” 11:42:32 AM 8/05/05 “Holy chit! There are 1675 reviews on that, WK. Does that count as new gear? We decided to not know if it's a him or her until he/she arrives.” 7:12:13 PM 8/05/05 “My wife went to the TNF outlet store and boaught her a bright, shiny, new MG 55 backpack for $90. It's perfect for her! ”3:18:27 PM 8/22/05 “I just ordered me this... ![]() Sierra Designs Wicked Light +45 Sleeping Bag” 4:14:17 PM 8/22/05 “Looks wicked dude!” 4:17:58 PM 8/22/05 “does that come with the cat pee scent or no?” 4:22:26 PM 8/22/05 “Wounded Knee: Is that the one with the down top and the nylon insert for the sleeping mat (like it's only the top part of the bag?) I have been really curious as to how well those work. They make a lot of sense to me but I didn't want to pay that much for a science experiement on my part.” 4:28:11 PM 8/22/05 “birch: Knowing SD if you call their customer service people they will throw in the cat pee for free.” 4:29:14 PM 8/22/05 “that is customer service I like. Its too rare these days. I have often added my own pee as a duplicate but it's never the same. As vile as my urine may be its just not like good ole fashioned cat piss. Maybe I need more coffee or asparagus.” 4:31:00 PM 8/22/05 “Mmmmm...nothing says, "Stay away! This is mine!" like asparagus piss.” 4:32:07 PM 8/22/05 “Maybe it's on the cat P thread, but technically speaking does that ad to the "R" value? Could the bag become a 43 degree?” 4:32:19 PM 8/22/05 “whelp, you sickos, I am off to google "asparagus piss" now because I ain't never heard of that before” 4:33:05 PM 8/22/05 “From a blog I found... "Tuesday, March 01, 2005 Asparagus Piss It still amazes me how badly my piss smells after eating asparagus. Had some asparagus last night. Grilled up some meat. Lovely. But man, I go and drain it before hitting the sack and my head just recoils because of how badly my wizz smells. So I understand that the green stuff has this super-high concentration of one vitamin or another. B12? I don't know, whatever. I love asparagus. And, quite frankly, I'm a fan of my bad-smelling piss that night and the day after. Taking a leak is so boring. Oh, wow. My piss is super yellow today. I've either taken an extra vitamin or am dehydrated. Ohhhh. Clear. I'm drinking a lot of water. Whoop-dee doo. But the asparagus piss, now that is a good one. Not really sure what to compare it to. For those of you who take are familiar with the concept you know what I'm talking about. There really is no comparison. I mean, it's asparagus piss. Not too many things you encounter in your daily life where you can say, "Aha! Now that smells exactly like asparagus piss!" The asparagus piss is the only time going pee is cool. You just never know how bad it's gonna be. Those first 24 hours after downing a big plate of asparagus is a fun time. For me, anyway. Peeing is actually an adventure. I would think it might be a tough time for the ladies being so close to the source when you have to sit to pee. (Ladies, seriously, be honest. You have to admit that peeing while standing up is rather cool. Having a weiner, even a small one, is cool. C'mon, Freud knows you want to say it, so say it!) Like when I'm at the urinal or bowl firing off an asparagus piss, I can turn my head or step away from the bowl a few feet to distance myself from the stream of death spouting from my dong. With mobility being so restricted, the asparagus piss has to be a tough one for the ladies."” 4:36:21 PM 8/22/05 “that is hilaious on so many #&%!$ing levels, nigal! great stuff!” 4:38:37 PM 8/22/05 “Jim, No, I don't think so. I think you are thinking of the Big Agnes Horse Thief. I was thinking of getting that one, but I an such a warm sleeper, I had to go with this one. Plus, this one only weighs 14 ounces.” 4:41:22 PM 8/22/05 “I got my Granite Gear Vapor Trail in the mail today. Hooray! I also found out from my podiatrist why my Montrail Hurricanes are all wrong for my feet. He wanted me to bring them in for inspection since they bothered me so much. Bad shoes for me. Darn it if those puppies curve. Yup, I've got straight feet and those shoes are far from straight. So they bend all wrong with each stride, stressing my bad paw.” 5:41:01 PM 8/22/05 “pixie: I use that identical pack and love it. It doesn't do well with a lot of weight, of course, but you are pixie so you know what light means! Funny, I re-read the message. I have those same shoes (Hurricane Ridge GTX) and I love them. My feet do get wet in them, but they are a good match for me if I am not worrieda bout ankle support. last edited: 8/22/05 5:51:48 PM” 5:50:45 PM 8/22/05 “Look how "bent" they are! ![]() It's not the photograph, I swear. They seriously are crooked.” 6:15:23 PM 8/22/05 “Have you looked at other pairs? I'll go look at mine tonight. It could be a defect in the last the shoe was built on! I don't even know if that shoe is built on a last ... I think so. In any case you might be able to get a new pair of shoes out of Montrail ... those suckers are expensive shoes! :) last edited: 8/22/05 6:46:52 PM” 6:46:11 PM 8/22/05 “Nah, I got them cheap on Sierra Trading Post. Those shoes are part of the reason I reinjured my foot. I will never wear Montrails again.” 6:55:44 PM 8/22/05 “I had a pair of them and liked em alot! Though the outer material wore out somewhat quickly.” 8:04:11 PM 8/22/05 “My Sierra Designs Wicked Light +45 Sleeping Bag arrived today! This thing is lighter than me!” 10:29:53 PM 8/25/05 “WK, I hope it is lighter than you.” 10:44:30 PM 8/25/05 Osprey Atmos 50 “I love my Aether 60 so I thought I'd stick with Osprey again for my new pack, the Atmos 50. 2lbs 13oz, 3000ci which is 11oz lighter and 700ci smaller. I got this one because of the features. I really like the AirSpeed Suspension and the way the pack isn't against your back. I also like having pockets on the outside and there are three, two zippered. And then one of the cooler features is two hipbelt pockets, perfect for my camera. Gonna test it out this weekend. I'll probably have to change my packing technique a bit as this pack is 700ci smaller, but I've been buying some UL gear lately that takes up less space and does more. ”4:23:11 PM 8/30/05 “nice pack, dub (other than the loud color) - what'd you pay for it? I found it on sale for $169...deal?” 4:26:44 PM 8/30/05 “oh yeah...and what do you think of the Osprey "Departure 75"? according the the description, it zips apart into 2 pieces for carry-on travel - no more checking your backpack on flights! Interesting concept. http://www.backcountrygear.com/catalog/packdetail.cfm/OS184” 4:29:56 PM 8/30/05 “You better come on the Deam Wilderness trip dude! I gotta see that thing! It may be time to add a 7th pack to my closet” 4:32:58 PM 8/30/05 “Dub, I have the same pack and I love it. EarthNShy, CrazyPace, and Lilmountaingirl also have it. The fact that the back breathes well is a definite bonus” 4:33:22 PM 8/30/05 timecline is now thriftyhiker “nobody get external frames anymore...wadupwitdat?...are internals better?...i know about the flying thing but other than that” 4:34:21 PM 8/30/05 “I get stuck in trees and brush w/ an external. Bushwacking was an excercise in frustration; I had to switch.” 11:12:20 PM 8/30/05 “I've been eying that pack for a long time now and was trying to decide between it and the ULA P2. I tried out a ULA at Mt. Rogers and my local gear store carries Osprey...and they were having a 20% off sale so I bought this one! $160, no shipping. They also had the Marmot Lithium 0F Down Sleeping bag (2lbs, 900down) for $300 on sale...I would have probably bought it too but they only had regular :-( AmyG, I saw that other Osprey pack there in the store...didn't try it out though. WK, I'll be there so long as I don't get switched to first shift which I've been trying to get on for a year and they said it would happen next month, probably towards the end. So should be no worries. Sherbear, Brad and I areplanning on coming, maybe Troy too. Ox, I think I'll like it too...just packed it for the weekend...weighing in at around 28lbs with food and water, which is about 7lbs better than usual. Had to drop some stuff since I have a smaller pack now. Thrifty, I just like internals...haven't used an external since scouts and even then I thought they sucked. Personal choice.” 1:59:11 AM 8/31/05 160 ?!! “nice pack, good price. Good job!” 7:52:22 AM 8/31/05 “Just found a really cool feature....the sternum strap also doubles as an emergency whistle...they designed the buckle with a little whistle in it...clever.” 3:00:04 PM 8/31/05 “hey dub, back when galyans was still in business one of there brand name packs had this too” 3:03:56 PM 8/31/05 “Thanks to the sale at REI last week, I got some more thorlos and a nifty pair of Lowa Tempest II lows. I like em!” 11:38:50 AM 9/02/05 “I hit the sale this morning. Snagged a pair of mid-weight capilene long undies for $12 and another pair for my 89 year old Gramma's Xmas gift for $10. Both retailed originally at $35. =D I love the clearance rack!” 1:25:02 PM 9/02/05 “ok, just picked up the Canon 20d, feel my joy. Consumerism gone mad.” 10:31:26 AM 9/09/05 “i REALLY need to get me a digital too...right now, at home on my piano, are 5 rolls of film and 2 disposable cameras that need to be developed...have no idea what's on them” 10:34:54 AM 9/09/05 “I decided a digital was in order when I had to take in 66 rolls of film (I joined Sam's club at the time just for the discount). I think it cost me about $300 or so-- probably would have been about $800 at the local drug store.... :-) Of course, Now I take an even more ridiculous amount of digital photos!!!” 10:56:27 AM 9/09/05 “I decided a digital was in order when I had to take in 66 rolls of film (I joined Sam's club at the time just for the discount). Consumerism gone mad." Y2 9:31:26 AM 9/09/05 Uh oh, sounds like you're almost fully Americanized, unless you bought it at wal-mart in which case you are fully Americanized and can never return to the UK.” 11:21:24 AM 9/09/05 “the assimilation process is nearing completion.” 11:25:46 AM 9/09/05 “ ”11:28:42 AM 9/09/05 “So right after getting my boots stolen (right in the outside hallway of my apt while drying mud off of them -- and, only the upstairs neighbors and the super have access to the foyer other than us -- go figure), I've replaced my boots with a pair of REI Monarch III's (made by Merrell) with GoreTex. I'm not looking forward to having to break in boots yet again so soon, as I just bought the other boots recently, but they do already feel more comfortable than the EMS Dry Hikers did. I don't know if they'll give me the same support though; we'll have to see... I was also gonna try out a pair of Vasques at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports and take the Monarchs back if the Vasques feel better, but I'll see... In the meantime, wahoo! New Gear! ...I guess... last edited: 9/19/05 8:36:21 PM” 8:35:47 PM 9/19/05 “if the support is questionable toss in a pair of superfeet insoles - they work well for me but YMMV” 7:21:51 AM 9/20/05 Jump to Page << prev
