I didn't know a TerraQuest could get lost.

All you have to do is call the manufacturer and they'll tell you where it is.

Well, I have to admit that I bought the off-brand knock-off - not a true TerraQuest. So mine didn't have the lowjack feature. That's what I get for being a cheapskate....

Hey Everybody!!
If you want to see new gear you should check out this month's (March 2006) issue of "Backpacker" magizine.
It has thier yearly Gear Guide and there is a lot of cool stuff that they have reviewed.

Got a GG Vapor Trail and the floating lid today.
My Gregory G Pack wasn't cuttin it. I also bought Georgia the GG ruff rider pack-pack.

I thought she would hate wearing it, but she took to it right away. It'll still be a few months before we load it up since she's a puppy, but what would spring be without new gear for the trail??

Now all I need is the all clear from my DR to hit the trail.

I love my Vapor Trail but leave the lid at home. It was wasted money for me. I learned to "live without a lid". I graduated to a Virga (framless, smaller, lighter) and like it even better than the Vapor Trail.

The Vapor Trail is a very comfortable pack, IMO. The belt has always fit well. The new versions of this pack have that freaky loading system that I really like but can't justify retiring my old Vapor Trail for the new model.

The Virga is comfortable but IMO only up to about 20 lbs. The belt is almost worthless on it but under 15 lbs who needs it.

I love having the lid on a pack for my fall into camp stuff. headlamp, aqua mira, micro tool. Although the two external pockets will prolly hold that stuff in a small ziplock. oh well, it was only $12.00.
Currahee

The external pockets on that pack have a small hole in the corner where the fabric is sewn into the pack body. I am sure it's there for a reason (drainage) but if you place small items in there without putting them in a stuff sack/etc they will fall out the little hole. I lost a leatherman micra that way but to my shock I found it on a return hike 3 months later!

I keep water in the pockets. A Platy bottle is hard to get into it... but if you turn the bottle upside down (put the cap in first) it fits quite well. It's still a work to get the bottle out of the pocket without stopping. It does have a pocket for a bladder but I have gotten used to the Platy bottles.

I drink so much water that I'll go through a 3 liter platy and a large Dasini/Aquafina bottle in no time. Plus with the Aqua Mira I hate to tear open my pack to get the Platy out. I can just refill the H2o bottle at sources along the trail.

It's true, if you wish long enough for something to break, it really will!!! Takes me about a month of wishing and you can be sure it'll break. My car stereo was on my "please break list". After a month of wishing and okay...some praying it finally broke 4 days ago.

Whoohooo!!!

Okay, it's not a super cool new stero, but hey...I have a USB port. I uploaded 2GB of music on my little FlashDrive. Super cool.

Jon and I went to REI on Saturday. I bought a doggie backpack for my aunt's big lab, and Jon picked up some travel necessities for his upcoming Europe trip. He had never been to an REI before. I am definitely signing up for the REI credit card. With the amount of money I charge up every month, I will be swimming in a huge dividend by next year. =D

That REI credit card does sound like a good deal!

We ordered a Sierra Designs Orion AST tent with ours, from REI Outlet. No wonder it was on sale, that thing is weird. Well maybe it's just me, I've never used a tent that has the poles that clip on the outside like that before, seems like kind of a pain to set up! But I'm sure I'll get used to it, and it'll definitely be better than our two million-year-old sagging tents that leak, LOL.

Picked up several things at REI. With my 20% off coupon I got the Marmot Hydrogen 30F 900fill power down sleeping bag...1lbs 8oz. The Marmot bag i bought two years ago has been great so i am sold on their bags. I also picked up 3 waterproof ditty bags by outdoor research, a couple new platys, some guyline tensioners for my hammock, two schwag pockets...thought i'd try them out, and a can stand for my stove.

Also about a month ago Dicks had the marmot helium 15F on sale, $100 off and I got a $100 gift card there from my realtor so i picked it up for half off! Gear score!

thrifty not sure where your looking for pocket rockets but at REI it sells for $39.95 or just under twice the stove you got. But hopefully your stove works out great so you can take that 20 bucks and use it for fuel, food, or other gear. :)

WELL I finally managed to get something from CCoutdoorstore.com...Amazingly enough I ordered a Lafuma Bag in February...it has taken bloody well forever to get any action, but if you stay on them with e-mail you get some action.

We shall now wait and see if the delivery is on time for this weekend....(or not)

Thrifty if your canister gives you troubles in the cold set it in a bit of water (in a pot or something). They aren't the best in cold temps either.

I got enough REI gift cards for graduation, and a few nice checks too, that I finally get to get my horse thief! Wooo-Hoooo!! I have to get my dad's 20% off coupon from him though. =) Wolfeyes and Ltwt and a few other friends are buying me the summer sleepy bag of my dreams. They rock.

My idea of cold hiking/camping would be below 35 degrees. 40 - 60 is chilly and 60 -78 is nice 80 and above (depending on humidity) is getting hot
