Went to T.J. Maxx today, and scored this sweet < href="http://www.tirelesstrekker.com/gregory/gr_sonic.htm">Gregory Sonic daypack for $16! I saw this pack about 2-3 months ago for $30, couldn't justify it then. But now, why not? I plan on taking it home, showing it to my wife, and saying "But look how much money I saved, dear!"” 12:21:37 PM 6/13/03 “I bought the floor for the Bat Ray, just $15.40. What a bargain! (STP, bargain Barn)Prolly wouldn't want it except for that it attaches to the bug netting, making the shelter a bit more bug resistant. And it weighs 11 oz. More than Tyvek, I'm sure but probably not by much.” 12:50:30 PM 6/13/03 “Yep, you'll show her! LOL” 12:51:15 PM 6/13/03 12:51:56 PM 6/13/03 “Man, I went a little crazy at Campmor. As the wife says, I'm dangerous when I have a credit card... Set of chums; backpacker's trowel (have been using a broken one for years); 2 containers of Ben's 100%; traveler's mosquito net (hangs from one point, big enough for two people); MSR Duralite Fry Pan (perfect. non-stick teflon, no handles, will work with my pot grippers and not too pricey); Duofold High Performance long sleeve shirt; a set of cheapo mesh zippered bags of different sizes from Coghlans; Columbia Shoshoni Falls Water Trunks (cheap, light and will work for hiking); a backpack rain cover for the wife's pack; sil nylon 5X8 stuff sack for electronic stuff; a mesh dunk bag for whatever; and a couple of synth t-shirts. Whew!!” 1:12:45 PM 6/13/03 “You're gonna need that big pack...” 1:13:53 PM 6/13/03 “rosey, what kind/brand pack cover did you get? That's one gear item I may get soon. Weight? Material?” 1:21:23 PM 6/13/03 1:28:45 PM 6/13/03 “Oh yeah. I'm gonna need that pack. Wait until I post my final weight and all the contents. The ultralighters are gonna crap their pants. Hell, even the lightweighters are gonna freak!” 1:33:15 PM 6/13/03 New Gear “Rino 110 for $120. Great deal. Thats my new toy.” 12:43:10 AM 6/15/03 Rosey “Careful with all that light weight stuff...I went on a ultra light trip with a friend of mine who carried 55 lbs of ultra light gear......” 1:16:18 AM 6/15/03 “THat's funny mtnsteve. I guess HPM has to watch out for that. He's impateintly waiting for his tarptent. He's acting like this upcoming Sierras trip is the end of the world.” 10:05:08 AM 6/15/03 Sierra Trading Post deals.... “Finially got my treking poles from STP. Dang shipping was soooo slow. I like them already. The extended foam down the shaft will make it easyer to shift grips. Weight was less than 10 oz each on my scale. KOMPERDELL ULTRALITE TREKING POLES $60 pair. RUBBER TIPS SLEEVELESS COOLMAX ALTA T-SHIRT by DUOFOLD Ugly pattern, but at $2.50 could not pass up. Woo Hoo!” 10:30:33 AM 6/18/03 “dang, $2.50?? awsome price!” 10:34:16 AM 6/18/03 “Wow, that shirt is hideous. Did they not have the solid color in your size, SS?” 10:34:48 AM 6/18/03 “bit - The solid color wasn't offered a couple of weeks ago! Still for $2.50, I'll wear it as a undershirt.” 10:38:58 AM 6/18/03 “Yah. STP is good for stuff like that. I got some long-sleeve Coolmax from them a year or so ago on the cheap, because they had a logo on them.” 10:42:46 AM 6/18/03 “what? that shirt is stylin'! just don't break your board on the reef! ;-)” 10:45:37 AM 6/18/03 “lyra, lyra, lyra.... Face it, the shirt looks like iguana vomit. However, as an undershirt it serve quite nicely.” 10:48:49 AM 6/18/03 “lets hope it doesn't get too warm ;o)” 10:51:19 AM 6/18/03 “WooooHoooo! I got my Hennessy Hammock Explorer Ultralite A-sym yesterday from the UPS truck. I ordered it from bbinkley at backpackingdeals. I can't wait to set it up this weekend. 2 lbs., 4 oz. - I hope this works for me...the weight sure does.” 10:54:32 AM 6/18/03 “mmmm, iguana vomit! :-) but for real, i think it's sort of cute.” 10:59:49 AM 6/18/03 “A real man can wear pink--or flowers. I like it--screw whoever says anything--just wear it!! :)” 11:09:33 AM 6/18/03 “And sleeveless on top of that. Show those arms SS.” 12:06:26 PM 6/18/03 “Went to REI last night to spend (part of) my 100 buck gift cert Cameron gave me for F's Day. I ended up getting some odds 'n' ends, but did get these clip-in water bottle shaped pockets for my Half Dome +2 tent - they weigh nothing; will try them out this weekend on our overnighter. Also got a replacement filter element for my PUR/Katadyn Hiker filter - I think I'm about due for that. Some food, too. Still have about 20 bucks left. Woulda bought a rain cover for my pack, but didn't know what size to get, so I'll have to go back for one of those. Wife: "Why did you just get a bunch of odds 'n' ends?" Me: "That's what I wanted."” 10:56:36 AM 6/19/03 “I just got my bilge sponge and throw rope for my kayak. What is the throw rope for anyway? I bought it because I figured I might need it someday for errr somethin.” 11:15:17 AM 6/19/03 “A lot of times you will encounter a waterfall that is impossible to float down, so you hold onto the rope and throw the kayak over the falls.” 11:19:03 AM 6/19/03 “Thanks Marytb!! It was just something else that I wante....i mean needed.” 11:38:06 AM 6/19/03 “I just got 4 titanium nail pegs with a hole through the top of them to guy out my hammock with. they weigh 15 grams or 0.5 ounce each. I love it when I get new gear for me.” 1:40:32 PM 6/26/03 “I'll be adding to list soon. I ordered the PreCip Anorak style from REI outlet and the Mini Trangia 28 -T. Also, my wife I could get the Moonstone Winter jacket on clearance at our local REI store in Troy. I think she's flipped, but who am I to argue with the woman. She's obviously right! Binks - I know I've said this before, but I am going to get around to buy that silnylon tarp soon. Then I'll have evenything I need ;)” 1:53:11 PM 6/26/03 “gots mi sum of dem deer TITanium peggers two.....guess wur I gots dem frum ? WildWillieWonka.bAcKpAcKiNgDeAlS.comiskey park” 2:39:45 PM 6/26/03 The Suspense Must Be Killing Y'all “I'll be receiving a few new pieces of gear w/in the week, one item I plan to use ALOT. Details when I get them...” 4:17:13 PM 6/26/03 “"one item I plan to use ALOT." how much room does one of those blowup dolls take in your pack?? speaking of going blind, ive been doing just that playing with my new aurora headlamp.” 10:08:51 PM 6/26/03 Gear Received! “The stove and PreCip came while I was out getting the Moonstone jacket. The Moonstone is the Cirrus line, 1.5# --- windproof and water resistant and Orange/Red. Looks good for winter with the Dupont thermo fill. Picked it up fer 90.00 bones, regular 190.00. Can't wait to try the stove. Looks like I can carry a good amount of fuel inside the stove. It has a sealing cap on top. Very interesting!” 10:40:25 PM 6/26/03 “Hey have you folks who have an REI nearby noticed the new shipping option on their site? You can have orders shipped to your store for FREE. It takes awhile longer but it's FREE. =)” 6:41:01 AM 6/27/03 “YEs, it does take awhile! When I was in there yesterday, there were a couple of people taking advantage of that new service. Speaking of REI, looks they are having a perty good sale running now.” 7:59:19 AM 6/27/03 “Been spending some major $ today. Bought my air tickets to Denver for the Rocky Mt. trip (end of this month) and ordered my new Western Mountaineering UltraLite sleeping bag from BackcountryGear.com for this trip. They were the only place I could find a 6' right zip 2003 model in stock. Should have it within a couple of weeks. This makes my third WM bag bought within the last couple of years. Woo Hoo!” 12:27:06 PM 7/02/03 “Just got my Tarptent. A few issues. Ditch the front pole and use your trekking pole. The supplied pole will just slowly sink into soft earth. I have to extend the pole quite a bit to get headroom. I'm 6' 6" and my head brushes to top when sitting in it. That would suck in a rainstorm. The Ti tent stakes are nice but once again aren't very good at keeping taught in soft earth. So I'll be packing a couple of thicker stakes just in case. Overall I like it, but it will take some getting used to.” 9:57:20 PM 7/07/03 “What kind is it?” 10:07:21 PM 7/07/03 “hpm - Gee, I didn't notice any headroom issues with mine. That's what you get for being 10" taller than me. ;) I usually put a flat rock or piece of wood under the front pole. I have a brand spanking new set of trekking poles I will try next time. Binks - Henry Shire TarpTent.” 10:13:15 PM 7/07/03 “Oh hey! I almost forgot, I've got a pair of new shoes coming. They're these super comfy plastic clogs Binks carries that have loads of ventilation holes, little nnubs to massage your feet and only weigh 8oz a pair! =) My new camp shoes.” 4:41:22 AM 7/08/03 “I now have in my hot little hands the new Petzl MYO 5 and she's a little ripper! Only whinge I've got about it is that there is insufficient graduation between led mode and halogen mode. It sits upon me bonce with nary a whimper.” 5:08:49 AM 7/08/03 “Jeeeez, they'll let ANYbody in here....” 5:55:56 AM 7/08/03 “Sorry I'll translate; I have obtained a MYO 5 and it is good. blah blah blah. It is comfortable to wear.” 7:49:38 AM 7/08/03 “Good golly gosh, Bunyip is back! Where have you been? Or is there a thread about this?” 8:16:05 AM 7/08/03 “me and miss opie tried the waddies on in Franklin, nc...they are really really light..and fit well..but the numbs bother my feet, and they are fugly..but like i said..so light it's weird.” 9:07:50 AM 7/08/03 “WM Highlite baby.... can y'all say "loft" :o) - good gosh, I can't believe I just said y'all. ;o)” 9:08:20 AM 7/08/03 “ynami - Sounds OK to me. ;)” 9:11:27 AM 7/08/03 “ynami .... I mean yawning .... good gosh I can't believe I said yawnaming!” 9:14:13 AM 7/08/03 “:op” 9:15:20 AM 7/08/03 Jump to Page << prev
