Check out their web site. Hehe, yeah. I tried it on and even my wife told me that I had reached a new low. The dorkage factor is off the scale. :)” 5:55:45 PM 5/19/07 “I have had my eyes on this project for ages now... thru-hiker web site? That guy that documented his build? I am a dunce at sewing so I never went for this. I may want to try it now that you have pushed me.” 10:20:25 AM 5/20/07 “It was easy. One help though is that the guy who designed the plans, Jeremy Padgett, lives about 1.5 hrs from me. He was nice enough to let me come to his house and see how he built his and to chat with him for about an hour. Also, my mother in law is an expert at sewing and has a high end machine. One Thanksgiving I did the whole project while we were there visiting. My folks live in teh same town so we had 4 days in that town with me working on the project off and on.” 11:34:11 AM 5/20/07 “This is bizarre! I loaded this thread after asking about it on TT. I linked to this, but can't get it on 'Search threads'.” 8:12:08 AM 5/30/07 “Okay, that worked. Bell's going to ring, gotta go, but I'll be back.” 8:12:50 AM 5/30/07 “Somebody's ringin' Gremlin's bell?!? You lucky devil!” 9:16:01 AM 5/30/07 “Hey, MarkO - we teachers are like Pavlov's dogs, but we're not allowed to salivate - our female students might not understand. I picked up my Marlin M336 in .35 Rem. yesterday. It's a beautiful deer rifle for thick brush and I got it for CA 150$ from an old guy who doesn't hunt any more and didn't want to do the paperwork when gun registration came through (don't do it down there, whatever you do). It's in perfect shape with wood that would double the value of any shotgun that had it (I wish I had a digital camera and the know-how to post a pic). Anyway, a buddy of mine who adores the 336 had ordered a replacement barrel band with a sling swivel and sling from Marlin and when his Marlin was stolen gave me the band. I had the band installed as well as a butt swivel and a Williams WGRS peep sight and a Firesight front blade. It is the sweetest brush combo you ever saw. To make things even better, I dropped in to show to my best buddy on the way home and he loved it. Then I dropped in on my other best buddy just down the hill from me and he dropped a bombshell. He said his uncle Rod had decided to retire from deer hunting and would I like to hunt with him from now on. Would I? I knew his uncle was quitting hunting because he asked me if I wanted to buy his tree stand. I said no, I don't like tree stands, but the truth is that we laugh about it because it's essentially a tree house. We think it has double beds, a fireplace and a picket fence. He likes to heat up stew and coffee in it whilst he's hunting and - you guessed it- never sees a deer. Our thoery is that he's waiting for some huge buck coming off a bad love affair to rear up on its hind legs in front of him, point to his chest and beg Rod to shoot him. But I digress. Rural etiquette prevents one from asking and so when he asked me I was very happy. We'll have exclusive access to a huge series of orchards with fields, scrub brush, maple/beech forest and some swampy areas. Depending on where I'm hunting I'll use the Marlin or my beloved Savage M99 in .308 Win. and a 2¾X Redfield in Redfield scopes with the custom stock I installed myself. Life is good.” 1:04:30 PM 5/30/07 “Wicked good, Unca Gremlin!” 1:08:10 PM 5/30/07 “Yup, it looks like I just might not starve this winter.” 1:09:21 PM 5/30/07 “I sounds as though you do live in a little bit of paradise..............and so close to the Adirondacks!” 1:12:14 PM 5/30/07 “ <-- 12 quickdraws (Smiley's Omegalite 3) ... $9.95 ea at REI Outlet! <-- BlueWater Accelerator 10.5mm x 60m Dry Rope ... $119 with the REI Outlet 20% off deal they just offered!I needed some new draws and also a rope for top-roping with the kids so the timing was perfect!” 9:53:12 AM 6/09/07 nice find “The Marlin 336 is gonna be a nice setup for you, I think you may like it better than your savage in the under 100 yd range.” 5:41:25 PM 6/10/07 “Father's day scored me a pair of trekking poles. Now all I need to do is get to the point where I can trek again. :)” 2:07:02 PM 6/18/07 “My WM Highlite came yesterday! WoooHooo!!! I also got a new pair of Leki sticks! Now I can't by gear for another year, but hey I'm a proud owner of a Western Mountaineering bag. I love it!” 9:03:17 PM 7/07/07 “BS. if your happy with the bag now ...just wait till you use it. ENJOY.” 9:28:45 PM 7/07/07 “Of course I was a dork and got in it on the living room floor, but I can't wait to use it on the trail. ;-)” 9:32:18 PM 7/07/07 “Me too, my GG Whisper pack, came in the mail today !” 9:36:29 PM 7/07/07 “BS....WM has been my sickness,5 bags in 3 months.DO i need them no,but i have to have them as i have to have cuben.” 10:23:03 PM 7/07/07 “Welll...now here is one I think would be a HOOT to have while you are napping outside your tent. http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2007/04/blood_puddle_pillows.html” 5:35:23 AM 7/27/07 “at last, a gear thread pops up (i'll take for whatever reason). i had forgotten tt talked about stuff like this.” 9:09:49 AM 7/27/07 “I just ordered a JRB Hudson River Quilt, Yee, Haw!!” 1:28:50 PM 8/04/07 “i don't see the difference between this and the no sniveller quilt. you will be very happy with this purchase.” 6:27:06 PM 8/04/07 “didn't you just buy a cocoon quilt? did you not like it? just curious.” 6:27:50 PM 8/04/07 “I just googled JRB. Neat products totally sucky website.” 6:47:21 PM 8/04/07 ““i don't see the difference between this and the no sniveller quilt. you will be very happy with this purchase.” “didn't you just buy a cocoon quilt? did you not like it? just curious.” Jimmy san 7:27:06 PM 8/04/07 ?#1 The Hudson River is on special for $199.95, So, I saved $50.00, rather than going with the No Sniveller. The only difference, is the N.S. has a head hole slit, so you can wear it around camp. Which, probably isn't a good idea with down, risking getting a rip or burn in the fabric, plus adding moisture to the down, by wearing the quilt. Temp. rating is the same at 30deg ?#2 I don't think the Cocoon 180 will be good down to 30deg. Also down will last longer and maintain it temperature rating more so over time, with repeated stuffings, compared to the Coocon 180 with the Polarguard 3D fill. Also, the JRB quilt should compress smaller, thus take up less pack space as well. last edited: 8/04/07 6:55:30 PM” 6:53:04 PM 8/04/07 “so you did not buy the cocoon. my mistake. i was curious about this product.” 6:59:58 PM 8/04/07 ““so you did not buy the cocoon. my mistake. i was curious about this product.” Jimmy san 7:59:58 PM 8/04/07 Sorry, you misunderstood but yes, I did purchase the Cocoon 180 quilt first. last edited: 8/04/07 7:10:25 PM” 7:04:10 PM 8/04/07 “I just googled JRB. Neat products totally sucky website I tried to google it and got nothing that looked promising. What's the link?” 7:04:48 PM 8/04/07 7:07:38 PM 8/04/07 “ ![]() Maybe I'll rethink the hammock idea. hehehehe” 7:10:22 PM 8/04/07 “picked up two metolius ultralight powercams, sizes 7 and 8. with the four i have and the four my friend gave me plus these two i am getting pretty near set for cams. he gave me a rack full of stoppers as well. a nice set of hexes and some tricams and i will be totally set.” 1:24:44 PM 8/05/07 ““picked up two metolius ultralight powercams, sizes 7 and 8. with the four i have and the four my friend gave me plus these two i am getting pretty near set for cams. he gave me a rack full of stoppers as well. a nice set of hexes and some tricams and i will be totally set.” Jimmy san 2:24:44 PM 8/05/07 Speak English, Rock Jock! HA,HA!” 1:33:42 PM 8/05/07 “Just got 5 yd more of cuben, for tent.” 3:42:46 PM 8/05/07 “Now workng on a 108x42x38 ..360 vent with poles ,floor ,total WP and only 1.2 lb. No tie outs,no revamp.. due to heat with sil.” 4:06:03 PM 8/05/07 “backcountrygear.com sale... enter code "359yyr15" at checkout and get 15% off one regularly priced item in your cart. The catch (I discovered) is that almost everything in the store that I want is on sale and these items are not regularly priced. Haha! I love this store, by the way, and shop here often.” 4:39:31 PM 8/05/07 “... mountainsmith polarguard 3d sleeping bag @ rei... 35 degree rated... $34.99 (reg $155.00). couldn't pass it up at this price. i'll prolly pass it on to a boy scout or use it on kid/family trips. 2 lbs... not bad.” 1:42:10 PM 8/07/07 “whore” 2:16:19 PM 8/07/07 “I recieved my JRB Hudson River quilt the other day. First off, its very, very well made and was delivered quickly. I love the draw-string foot-box. The loft of this quilt is probalby slightly more than my WM Megalite bag, as well. Only problem for me, is I ordered a regular size, but found, I need a large. Only 3oz more, but still 1oz lighter, than my WM bag. JRB was great, they sent my large out, on the same-day of my order, with a full refund check enclosed from the first purchase, before they even recieved my return. Can't beat that! Anyone wanting a quilt, should look into JRB. last edited: 8/09/07 6:11:44 PM” 6:10:16 PM 8/09/07 “Picked up a new headlamp tonight. Weighs only one onuce” 7:20:25 PM 8/09/07 “Whore” 7:23:36 PM 8/09/07 “I don't know...those onuces can be pretty heavy. I mean, sure they are lighter because they have had you-know-what cut off...but still...” 7:51:08 PM 8/09/07 new bag “We just got my wife a WM Caribou. 1 lb 4 oz. Its sweet. She was using a 0 degree Kelty. It would barely fit in the bottom of her pack. We plan on doing a week on the AT again this fall.” 9:34:18 AM 8/27/07 “Yup. They do make a little repair kit now for silicone material gear, so I picked one of those up at REI. Came with a patch and a small tube of glue/sealer. Perfect. Also picked up a couple of Nixwax products to get stuff watertight for CAN (looks like it's gonna be a mixed bag for weather) and a sil backpack cover (70-90 liter size). Time to pack!” 10:00:50 AM 8/27/07 “got my camp aluminum 6-point instep crampons i have been waiting like a year for. the pair weighs 7.95 oz. very sweet. punte light crampons, look at backcountrgear.com if you want a pair. they are aluminum so they won't hold their points really well, but i so rarely use crampons that odds are they will stay in my pack so the light weight is welcome. when i really need them they will be effective and i can sharpen them between trips. yes, only i can get excited about getting crampons in september.” 2:56:10 PM 9/04/07 “i won a bid on a set of frogg toggs rain gear yesterday.......20 dollars including shipping” 3:53:17 PM 9/04/07 “yes, only i can get excited about getting crampons in september I just order a great pair of winter gloves that REI had on sale. Yes, I can understand the excitment.” 9:42:20 PM 9/04/07 “haha windi! my mind has definitely turned to fall hiking, cool weather, WINTER (yes please!), igloo building, snowshoes, skis, etc, etc, etc.” 4:52:45 AM 9/05/07 “I got a new set of nuts! Wired nuts to be exact! ”9:17:42 AM 9/19/07 “and these are used for?” 10:13:21 AM 9/19/07 Jump to Page << prev
