rock climbing protection - in case you happen to fall. You can rapell from them too, but that's kinda only in a 'have to' scenario.

Just got a 2nd hand, unused, 2007 ULA Conduit pack in the mail today!!!

I also sent my MLD Zip pack back for some Mods, although the pack carries great, being its only 10oz

I hope I don't screw the pack up, with my changes I'm having made to it?

Ok, I foudn a pair of boots that will hopefully not kill my feet! I've tried cheep pairs, I've tried expensive pairs. The only time I had a comfy fit was with the cheepist pair on the face of the earth years ago when I was first getting into backpacking. Well, I'm trying another cheep pair, and they seem to fit better so far. I'll let you know after my first hike in them ;) I'm going to be waring them around everyday for about a month to make sure I break em in good before the big hike. I just so don't want to get trench foot again lol

My firs new gear since I don't now when (probably last Christmas). I ordered my Christmas and Bday gift from Birch today. A nice new Isis Monsoon rain jacket. My old Isis is seven years old and just starting to wet through. Those chicks make some nice stuff!

Ordered from Tahoemountainspots.com. They had it on sale for $89.95, gave me a 5% off code plus free shipping! Yay!

ordered a jacks 'r better rocky mountain sniveller quilt plus the suspension system for a hennesy hammock. i already have a no sniveller three-season quilt and in really cold weather i can either sleep on the ground with the rocky mountain sniveller -or- use the hammock with this quilt and use the no sniveler as an underquilt.

i also ordered a set of tree hugger straps for my new hammock and those "funnel" rain catchers that are cool... but mostly because it means i can attach a funnel to the top of a soda bottle and this makes them easier to fill. way cool.

the Speer Snug-fit is a lot better but has a hefty price tag

i already own the no sniveler and wanted a winter quilt for this winter. i am basically done with sleeping bags. now that i own a hammock i wanted something i could use with the hammock or on it's own.

the no sniveler is light and effective for three seasons easily. tne rocky mountain sniveller will be good for winter (also, i ordered it in size large for this reason). both together can be used with the hammock in cold weather or just one of the quilts for normal three-season use.

$46.93 - Camp 6-point instep crampons.

This is a great deal on a great set of 6-pointers. I have these but in aluminum (Punte Light's so they are named). The 6-point configuration is very stable and more than enough for most hiking scenarios where the crampons may never leave the bottom of your pack. I have the 4-point CMI insteps and these, in my opinion, are vastly more stable and superior.

JS, I have a Speer Hammock. I prefer a top entry hammock vs a bottom entry.
I mostly use a Wal-Mart CCF pad along with my Insul Mat Max. I also have the DAM 7 pad and a Speer Peapod for winter conditions. I haven't had to use either ofthem yet but I suspect I will eventually.

I met Ed at Trail Days,Bought a new tarp from him and a new stuff sack and later when I told him about my pack getting stolen he gave me a new stuff sack.Lickily the one new item that I bought that wasn't stolen was my new tarp but the sack for it was in my pack.I have to admit though that since then I bought a Eagles Nest hammock and I really like it much better and it's a little lighter as well.

I met the Hennessy guy also at trail days and he was a horses ass!

hehe... it was a figure of speech as in "a piece of gear you don't intend to use". i only use them when i hike in the grand canyon and get concerned about ice on the trails where there might be ice (up near the rim in March). they have always been dead weight but weight i would gladly carry if i only needed them once the entire week.

True to my screen name, I've aquired new tech gear. My new HTC Advantage is now my new GPS/phone/MP3/internet device, with a huge 5" screen (4"L X 3"H) with VGA resolution. Since it has built-in GPS and it lets me post on TT from the top of mountains, it qualifies as trail gear!

Nigal, I'll demo it when we meet some day...

Damn Tech that is ubercool! How far ahead of the tech curve is it? The company I work for bought all the home health aids Nextel phones we were supposed to be able to clock in and out with and do all our paperwork on but they suck ass. Now they are going to get us all PDAs like the Palm Treo so we can go paperless. I wish we were getting something like what you have. I wonder what the difference is in price?

i got my jacks 'r better rocky mountain sniveller the other day. it's very nice, esp the size long for me. i can't wait to use it this winter.

i also got a pair of these newfangles hennesy hammock funnels that attach to a plastic pop bottle. they were intended to keep a tarp taught when the bottles fill with water as it rains, but i wanted them for the nifty factor. a screw-on funnel for a pop bottle would make filling bottles much easier on the trail. there have to be other uses as well.

I forgot about the built-in camera, too. More tech for the trail. As for price, if they are buying their phones locked to their network and in bulk, they are much cheaper than this. This thing is 899 at Compusa, 869 on Amazon. Unlocked though, which has its benefits.

Id say this is bleeding-edge. Nothing else on the market has a 5 inch full VGA screen, 3G wireless internet access, pluss all the other features and can fit in your pocket.

Just don't drop it! ;)

I got my new rain coat yesterday. It's just like my old one but a few ounces lighter and the pit zips stop mid-way down the arm instead of at the wrists (which was a bit of overkill). Also has a few nice improvements on the hood. It can rain all it wants, I'm ready now!

I forgot about the built-in camera, too.

The Nextel shlt phones we have now don't even have cameras on them. I told them a camera would be invaluable to us because if we found something on a patient that needed looked at we could snap a pic and send it straight to the nurse.

Cool beans man! I am shopping for a new pack myself and have been since May but I have vowed to shop until I find the perfect pack for me. I have read more about packs this year than I ever have and I can't just order my pack I have to wear it before I commit with all my gear in it.

Just bought a 45 litre day pack from Bass Proshop in Toronto yesterday.Nothing special it`s a North 49,but it`ll do for day hiking or canoe tripping. My last one was a Eureka 32 litre that I bought for my son when he was 10 so he could backpack with me.Well he`s going on 21 now and I`ve been using it for day trips, but it`s kinda tight around around the shoulders,so figured I should probaly upgrade a little....so I did, gonna take it for a weekend camp at the end of November or when ever I get my poles back from the North Face.
